Abstract

We study the reflection and transmission properties of a system comprising two whispering-gallery mode resonators, each containing a Zeeman-split quantum dot and side-coupled to an optical fiber. Our results demonstrate that unidirectional reflection and transmission can be achieved by tuning the coupling strength between the resonators and the optical fiber. Furthermore, we establish a correspondence between quantum dot energy level resonance frequencies and the positions of low reflection (transmission) peaks at a phase shift of π. This research provides insights for the development of quantum optical devices like isolators, circulators, and routers.

Unidirectional Reflectionlessness and Transmissionlessness in Indirectly Coupled Whispering‐Gallery Mode Resonators

Gang Li, Ying Qiao Zhang, Xing Ri Jin

Abstract The reflection and transmission characteristics of a system composed of two whispering‐gallery mode (WGM) resonators are explored. Each resonator contains a Zeeman split quantum dot and side‐couples to an optical fiber. The results indicate that the unidirectional reflectionlessness and transmissionlessness can be achieved by adjusting the coupling strength between the resonators and the optical fiber, as well as the transition rate between the counter‐propagating modes within the WGM resonators. Besides, a one‐to‐one correspondence is set up between the resonance frequencies of quantum dots' energy levels and the positions of reflectionlessness (transmissionlessness) peaks when phase shift between two WGM resonators is . This research provides the valuable insights for the development of quantum optical devices such as isolators, circulators, and routers.

Phase-controlled dual-wavelength resonance in a self-coupling whispering-gallery-mode microcavity

Ranran Xie, Guo‐Qing Qin, Hao Zhang +4 more

We report a novel, to the best of our knowledge, way to achieve phase-controlled dual-wavelength resonance based on whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) microcavities experimentally. With the help of a feedback waveguide, not only two optical pathways but also a unidirectional coupling between counter-propagating waves are formed, which is the requirement of all-optical analogues of electromagnetically induced transparency and Autler-Townes splitting. By adjusting the accumulating phase introduced from the fiber waveguide, we observe the signal lineshape changes from symmetric to asymmetric, i.e., the resonant transmission and extinction ratio of two splitting modes can be controlled, which brings a new degree of freedom to the WGM resonator system. These results may boost the development of quantum state control and pave the way for reconfiguring devices such as narrow-band filters.

Theory of single-photon transport in a single-mode waveguide. II. Coupling to a whispering-gallery resonator containing a two-level atom

Jung‐Tsung Shen, Shanhui Fan

We analyze the single-photon transport in a single-mode waveguide coupled to a whispering-gallery-type resonator interacting with a two-level atom. The single-photon transport properties such as the transmission and reflection amplitudes, as well as the resonator and the atom responses, are solved exactly via a real-space approach. The treatment includes the intermode backscattering between the two degenerate whispering-gallery modes of the resonator, and the dissipations of the resonator and the atom. We also show that a generalized critical coupling condition, that the single-photon transmission at the output of the waveguide goes to zero on resonance for a matched system, holds for the full coupled waveguide-ring resonator-atom system.

Single-photon transport properties in a one-dimensional resonator waveguide coupled to a whispering-gallery resonator containing two separated two-level atoms

Tao Zhou, Xiaofei Zang, Yongsheng Liu +2 more

Single-photon transport properties in a one-dimensional coupled resonator waveguide, coupled to a whispering-gallery resonator interacting with two separated two-level atoms, are theoretically investigated. Based on the real-space approach, the transmission and reflection amplitudes of the single photon are deduced. Numerical results demonstrate that the transmission and reflection depend on the resonator–atom coupling, the intermode backscattering, and especially the phase difference between these two separated atoms. Effects of dissipation on single-photon transport properties are also discussed.

Manipulating Single-Photon Transport Properties in an Asymmetrical Waveguide Coupled to a Whispering-Gallery Resonator Containing a Two-Level Atom

Tao Zhou, Xiaofei Zang, Danhua Xu

A hybrid system containing an asymmetrical waveguide coupled to a whispering-gallery resonator embedded with a two-level atom is designed to investigate single-photon transport properties. The transmission and reflection amplitudes are obtained via the discrete coordinates approach. Numerical simulation demonstrates that a trifrequency photon attenuator is realized by controlling the couplings between the asymmetrical waveguide and the whispering-gallery resonator. The phase shift, group delay and dissipation effects of the transmitted single-photon are also discussed.
