Conditional phase gate between two photons through control of the interaction time with a single atom in a cavity

Abstract

We show that the simultaneous interaction of two single-photon fields with a single atom in the V configuration can, in principle, produce a conditional phase gate of arbitrarily high fidelity, for an appropriate choice of the interaction time, as long as the fields can be described by a single temporal mode (as in an optical cavity); this requires a ``gated'' interaction, where, e.g., dynamical coupling techniques could be used to get the fields in and out of the cavity, and a large detuning induced by a strong external field could be used to turn the atom-field interaction on and off at the right times. With these assumptions, our analysis shows that the largest gate fidelities are obtained for a cavity containing a single atom, and that adding more atoms, in effect, ``dilutes'' the system's nonlinearity. We also study how spontaneous emission losses into noncavity modes degrade the fidelity, and consider as well a couple of alternate atomic level schemes, namely, two- and five-level systems.

Quantum phase gate in an optical cavity with atomic cloud

We propose a scheme for implementing a two-qubit quantum phase gate for intracavity fields. In the scheme, two qubits are encoded in zero- and one-photon Fock states of two intracavity modes, and a four-level $\mathsf{N}$-type atomic ensemble trapped in a cavity mediates the conditional phase gate within a given interaction time. We also discuss the influence of the atomic spontaneous emission and the decay of the cavity modes on the photon loss and gate fidelity, showing the scheme is within the current experiment technology.

A scheme is proposed to realize a two-qubit quantum phase gate for the intracavity modes. In the scheme, two qubits are encoded in zero- and one-photon Fock states of two intracavity modes, and the three-level $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$-type atom trapped in a high-$Q$ cavity mediates the conditional phase gate within a given interaction time. The influence of cavity decay and atomic spontaneous emission on the gate fidelity is also discussed.

Realization of a quantum phase gate using two nonidentical atoms in a highly-detuned cavity

Chao-Yang Pang

We have discussed the system that consists of two nonidentical two-level atoms trapped simultaneously in a large-detuned single-mode cavity field in this paper. The results show that it is possible to realize a fast quantum phase gate by using two nonidentical two-level atoms, only if the cavity frequency and difference of two nonidentical atoms transition frequency are selected, and the cavity-atom interaction time is controlled appropriately. The scheme does not require the auxiliary level.

Conditional quantum controlled-phase gate between distant atoms in optical cavities

Dingguo Li

A scheme is proposed to implement a quantum controlled-phase gate between two four-level atoms inside the different optical cavities. The scheme combines the advantage of scalability from the photon and power of strong atom-photon coupling, which yields the desired unitary evolution operation. The scheme is immune to decoherence due to cavity photon decay and atomic spontaneous emission, and the operation is implemented probabilistically with a very high fidelity.

Dynamics of one two-level-atom interacting with a multiple cavity modes

Taoufik Said, A. Chouikh, Z. Sakhi +1 more

We discuss how to implement quantum logic gates by considering a two-level-atom driven by a strong microwave field and successively interacting with m+1 cavity modes. The scheme is insensitive to the initial state of the atom, and the operation time is independent of the number of cavity modes involved in the system operations. This scheme is used to realize two quantum logic gates (m-target-qubit controlled-global-phase gate and Multi-qubit phase shift gate) in a time much shorter than the photonic lifetime. We also studied the influence of decoherence on the fidelity. In general, our system is reasonably less sensitive to the photonic and atomic decay rates and therefore it can be experimentally realized.

Quantum phase-gate operation based on nonlinear optics: Full quantum analysis

Carlo Ottaviani, S. Rebić, David Vitali +1 more

We present a full quantum treatment of a five-level atomic system coupled to two quantum and two classical light fields. The two quantum fields undergo a cross-phase-modulation induced by electromagnetically induced transparency. The performance of this configuration as a two-qubit quantum phase gate for traveling single photons is examined. A trade-off between the size of the conditional phase shift and the fidelity of the gate is found. Nonetheless, a satisfactory gate performance is still found to be possible in the transient regime, corresponding to a fast gate operation.
