Abstract

The physics associated with multipartite high-dimensional entanglement is different from that of multipartite two-dimensional entanglement. Therefore, preparing multipartite high-dimensional entanglements with linear optics is challenging. This study proposes a preparation protocol of multiphoton GHZ state with arbitrary dimensions for optical systems. Auxiliary entanglements realize a high-dimensional entanglement gate to connect the high-dimensional entangled pairs to a multipartite high-dimensional GHZ state. Specifically, we use the path degrees of freedom of photons to prepare a four-partite, three-dimensional GHZ state. Our method can be extended to other degrees of freedom to generate arbitrary GHZ entanglements in any dimension.

Generation of arbitrary high-dimensional qudit-based entangled states

Fang‐Fang Du, Ming Ma, Zhuoya Bai +1 more

The generation of a high-dimensional quantum entangled state provides a crucial resource for achieving more complex and diverse quantum information processing tasks. In this paper, we present two deterministic protocols designed for the generation of a four-dimensional two-qudit Bell state and three-qudit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state assisted by cross-Kerr nonlinearity, where the four-dimensional qudit is encoded in the hybrid polarization-spatial state of the single photon to conserve quantum resources and alleviate environmental noise. The proposed protocols for generating a four-dimensional two-qudit Bell state and three-qudit GHZ state are circuit concise, high success, robust fidelity, noise resistant, and resource saving. Moreover, the four-dimensional $N$-qudit ($N>3$) GHZ states can be generated with the help of the $N\ensuremath{-}1$ generating devices of the four-dimensional Bell state. Consequently, its efficiency and fidelity decay exponentially by a factor of $N\ensuremath{-}1$. Further, the arbitrary high-dimensional qudit-encoded entangled states can be achieved with linear-optics four-dimensional single-qudit $X$ gates and $Z$ gates. These protocols offer a reference for further advancements in high-dimensional state generation technology and providing insights for the practical implementations of metrological enhancement, quantum simulation, high-dimensional quantum computation, and quantum error correction.

Efficient preparation of high-dimensional hybrid entangled states in circuit quantum electrodynamics

Wang-Chu Lv, Wentao Zhao, Yu Wang +6 more

High-dimensional quantum systems, known as qudits with dimension $d>2$, possess the capability to encode and process more information than traditional two-dimensional qubits. Entangled states serve as crucial resources for both quantum computation and quantum communication. On the basis of circuit quantum electrodynamics (QED) systems, we introduce an efficient scheme to deterministically generate high-dimensional multipartite entangled states of hybrid qutrits ($d=3$). Assuming a simple initial state has already been prepared with the use of local operations, our method requires only a single step to produce hybrid Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) entangled states among circuit QED systems consisting of superconducting qutrits and a superconducting cavity. Remarkably, the number of steps and the operational time remain constant as the number of qutrits increases, highlighting the efficiency and scalability of our approach. Using numerical simulations for a three-dimensional hybrid GHZ state of seven qutrits, we demonstrate the feasibility of our scheme and study the effects of various parameters on the fidelity. The importance of this research is in directing the experimental creation of multipartite, high-dimensional, and hybrid GHZ states, which can then be used to enhance quantum communication protocols and computational processes.

Heralding Higher-Dimensional Bell and Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger states using multiport splitters

Daniel Bhatti, Stefanie Barz

Abstract One of the most important resources for quantum optical experiments and applications are on-demand highly entangled multiphoton quantum states. A promising way of generating them is heralding entanglement generation at a high rate from letting independent photons interfere. However, such schemes often work for a specific internal degree of freedom of the interfering photons only. Going to higher numbers of entangled photons, the success probabilities decrease while the number of necessary resources, e.g. auxiliary photons and optical elements, increases. To make probabilistic schemes feasible also for larger quantum states, it is therefore important to find resource-efficient generation schemes with high success probabilities. In this work, we introduce easily implementable schemes to herald qubit Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger (GHZ) states, higher-dimensional Bell states and higher-dimensional three-party GHZ states. Our schemes solely rely on multiphoton interference, i.e. they can be adjusted to work for arbitrary degrees of freedom. Furthermore, they demonstrate high success probabilities and need comparably few auxiliary photons.

Generation of high-dimensional energy-time-entangled photon pairs

Da Zhang, Yiqi Zhang, Xinghua Li +4 more

High-dimensional entangled photon pairs have many excellent properties compared to two-dimensional entangled two-photon states, such as greater information capacity, stronger nonlocality, and higher security. Traditionally, the degree of freedom that can produce high-dimensional entanglement mainly consists of angular momentum and energy time. In this paper, we propose a type of high-dimensional energy-time-entangled qudit, which is different from the traditional model with an extended propagation path. In addition, our method mainly focuses on the generation with multiple frequency modes, while two- and three-dimensional frequency-entangled qudits are examined as examples in detail through the linear or nonlinear optical response of the medium. The generation of high-dimensional energy-time-entangled states can be verified by coincidence counts in the damped Rabi oscillation regime, where the paired Stokes--anti-Stokes wave packet is determined by the structure of resonances in the third-order nonlinearity. Finally, we extend the dimension to $N$ in the sequential-cascade mode. Our results have potential applications in quantum communication and quantum computation.

Entanglement by Path Identity

Mario Krenn, Armin Hochrainer, Mayukh Lahiri +1 more

Quantum entanglement is one of the most prominent features of quantum mechanics and forms the basis of quantum information technologies. Here we present a novel method for the creation of quantum entanglement in multipartite and high-dimensional systems. The two ingredients are (i) superposition of photon pairs with different origins and (ii) aligning photons such that their paths are identical. We explain the experimentally feasible creation of various classes of multiphoton entanglement encoded in polarization as well as in high-dimensional Hilbert spaces-starting only from nonentangled photon pairs. For two photons, arbitrary high-dimensional entanglement can be created. The idea of generating entanglement by path identity could also apply to quantum entities other than photons. We discovered the technique by analyzing the output of a computer algorithm. This shows that computer designed quantum experiments can be inspirations for new techniques.
