Abstract

We investigate critical equilibrium and out of equilibrium properties of a ferromagnetic Ising model in one and two dimensions in the presence of long-range interactions, ${J}_{ij}\ensuremath{\propto}{r}^{\ensuremath{-}(d+\ensuremath{\sigma})}$. We implement a local dynamics on a dynamical L\'evy lattice, that correctly reproduces the static critical exponents known in the literature, as a function of the interaction parameter $\ensuremath{\sigma}$. Due to its locality the algorithm can be applied to investigate dynamical properties, of both discrete and continuous long-range models. We consider the relaxation time at the critical temperature and we measure the dynamical exponent $z$ as a function of the decay parameter $\ensuremath{\sigma}$, highlighting that the onset of the short-range regime for the dynamical critical properties appears to occur at a value of $\ensuremath{\sigma}$ which differs from the equilibrium one.

Study of the Nonequilibrium Critical Quenching and Annealing Dynamics for the Long-Range Ising Model

D. E. Rodríguez, M. A. Bab, Ezequiel Vicente Albano

Extensive Monte Carlo simulations are employed in order to study the dynamic critical behavior of the one-dimensional Ising magnet, with algebraically decaying long-range interactions of the form $\frac{1}{r^{d+σ}}$, with $σ=0.75$. The critical temperature, as well as the critical exponents, is evaluated from the power-law behavior of suitable physical observables when the system is quenched from uncorrelated states, corresponding to infinite temperature, to the critical point. These results are compared with those obtained from the dynamic evolution of the system when it is suddenly annealed at the critical point from the ordered state. Also, the critical temperature in the infinite interaction limit is obtained by means of a finite-range scaling analysis of data measured with different cutoffs of the interaction range. All the estimated static critical exponents ($γ/ν$, $β/ν$, and $1/ν$) are in good agreement with Renormalization Group (RG) predictions and previously reported numerical data obtained under equilibrium conditions. It is found that the dynamic exponent $z$ is different for quenching and annealing experiments, most likely due to the influence of the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition occurring at relatively similar algebraic decay of the interactions with $σ=1$. However, for annealing experiments the measured exponent $z$ is close to the RG predictions. On the other hand, the relevant exponents of the dynamic behavior ($z$ and $θ$) are slightly different than the RG predictions, most likely due to the fact that they may depend on the especific dynamics used (Metropolis in the present paper).

Study of the nonequilibrium critical quenching and the annealing dynamics for the long-range Ising model in one dimension

D. E. Rodríguez, M. A. Bab, Ezequiel Vicente Albano

Extensive Monte Carlo simulations are employed in order to study the dynamic critical behaviour of the one-dimensional Ising magnet, with algebraically decaying long-range interactions of the form 1/rd + σ, with σ = 0.75. The critical temperature, as well as the critical exponents, are evaluated from the power-law behaviour of suitable physical observables when the system is quenched from uncorrelated states, corresponding to infinite temperature, to the critical point. These results are compared with those obtained from the dynamic evolution of the system when it is annealed at the critical point from the ordered state. Also, the critical temperature in the infinite interaction limit is obtained by means of a finite-range scaling analysis of data measured with different truncated interaction ranges. All the estimated static critical exponents (γ/ν, β/ν, and 1/ν) are in good agreement with renormalization group (RG) results and previously reported numerical data obtained under equilibrium conditions. On the other hand, the dynamic exponent of the initial increase of the magnetization (θ) was close to RG predictions. However, the dynamic exponent z of the time correlation length is slightly different to the RG results probably due to the fact that it may depend on the specific dynamics used or because the two-loop expansion used in the RG analysis may be insufficient.

Kinetic Gaussian Model with Long-Range Interactions

Xiang-Mu Kong, Yang Zhan-Ru

In this paper dynamical critical phenomena of the Gaussian model with long-range interactions decaying as on d-dimensional hypercubic lattices (d = 1, 2, and 3) are studied. First, the critical points are exactly calculated, and it is found that the critical points depend on the value of δ and the range of interactions. Then the critical dynamics is considered. We calculate the time evolutions of the local magnetizations and the spin-spin correlation functions, and further the dynamic critical exponents are obtained. For one-, two- and three-dimensional lattices, it is found that the dynamic critical exponents are all which agrees with the result when only considering nearest neighboring interactions, and that they are all δ if It shows that the dynamic critical exponents are independent of the spatial dimensionality but depend on the value of δ.

Short-time dynamics of a random Ising model with long-range interaction

Yuan Chen

Short-time critical dynamics of a random Ising model (model A) with long-range interaction decaying as r(-(d+sigma)) (where sigma is the parameter controlling the range of the interaction), is studied by the theoretic renormalization-group approach. In dimensions d<2sigma, the initial slip exponents theta(') describing the initial increase of the order parameter, and theta for the growth of the response function, which govern the short-time scaling behaviors, are calculated to the second order in sqrt[epsilon] with epsilon=2sigma-d. The crossover between the long-range interaction and the short-range interaction, which occurs at some sigma>2, is also discussed.

Upper and lower critical decay exponents of Ising ferromagnets with long-range interaction

俊樹 堀田, Hidemaro Suwa, Synge Todo

We investigate the universality class of the finite-temperature phase transition of the two-dimensional Ising model with the algebraically decaying ferromagnetic long-range interaction, J_{ij}=|r[over ⃗]_{i}-r[over ⃗]_{j}|^{-(d+σ)}, where d (=2) is the dimension of the system and σ is the decay exponent, by means of the order-N cluster-algorithm Monte Carlo method. In particular, we focus on the upper and lower critical decay exponents, the boundaries between the mean-field-universality, intermediate, and short-range-universality regimes. At the critical decay exponents, it is found that the standard Binder ratio of magnetization at the critical temperature exhibits extremely slow convergence as a function of the system size. We propose more effective physical quantities, namely the combined Binder ratio and the self-combined Binder ratio, both of which cancel the leading finite-size corrections of the conventional Binder ratio. Utilizing these techniques, we clearly demonstrate that in two dimensions, the lower and upper critical decay exponents are σ=1 and 7/4, respectively, contrary to the recent Monte Carlo and renormalization-group studies [M. Picco, arXiv:1207.1018; T. Blanchard et al., Europhys. Lett. 101, 56003 (2013)EULEEJ0295-507510.1209/0295-5075/101/56003].
