Abstract

Abstract In this paper, we used a theoretical measure known as distance between the states, , to determine the bipartite entanglement of a one dimensional magnetic dimer system. The calculation was compared with the well-known entanglement measure, concurrence, and found to be the same. was, then, expressed in terms of two thermodynamic quantities, namely, magnetic susceptibility and specific heat. Experimental verification of temperature variation of the bipartite entanglement measure in terms of magnetic susceptibility and specific heat was done on single crystals of copper acetate-an excellent one dimensional dimer system. The results showed the existence of bipartite entanglement till temperatures as high as room temperature! Large sized single crystals of copper acetate were grown by a new evaporation technique and characterised by thermogravimetric analysis, IR and Raman spectroscopy measurements. Density functional theory calculations were done to calculate the delocalisation index which showed much lower values of δ ( C u , C u ) than other bonds, implying that the probability of direct Cu–Cu exchange in copper acetate is very small. Band structure calculations revealed the presence of flat bands at the Fermi level implying very weak intermolecular interactions in copper acetate.

Signature of quantum entanglement in NH4CuPO4·H2O

Tanmoy Chakraborty, Harkirat Singh, Chiranjib Mitra

Entangled solid state systems have gained a great deal of attention due to their fruitful applications in modern quantum technologies. Herein, detection of entanglement content from experimental magnetic susceptibility and specific heat data is reported for NH4CuPO4·H2O in its solid state crystalline form. NH4CuPO4·H2O is a prototype of Heisenberg spin 1/2 dimer system. Temperature dependent magnetic susceptibility and specific data are fitted to an isolated dimer model and the exchange coupling constant is determined. Field dependent magnetization isotherms taken at different temperatures are plotted in a three dimensional plot. Subsequently, entanglement is detected both from susceptibility and specific heat through two different entanglement measures; entanglement witness and entanglement of formation. The temperature evolution of entanglement is studied and the critical temperature is determined up to which entanglement exists. Temperature dependent nature of entanglement extracted from susceptibility and specific heat shows good consistency with each other. Moreover, the field dependent entanglement is also investigated.

Thermal entanglement of a spin-1/2 Ising–Heisenberg model on a symmetrical diamond chain

N.S. Ananikian, L N Ananikyan, Levon Chakhmakhchyan +1 more

The entanglement quantum properties of a spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg model on a symmetrical diamond chain were analyzed. Due to the separable nature of the Ising-type exchange interactions between neighboring Heisenberg dimers, calculation of the entanglement can be performed exactly for each individual dimer. Pairwise thermal entanglement was studied in terms of the isotropic Ising-Heisenberg model and analytical expressions for the concurrence (as a measure of bipartite entanglement) were obtained. The effects of external magnetic field H and next-nearest neighbor interaction J(m) between nodal Ising sites were considered. The ground state structure and entanglement properties of the system were studied in a wide range of coupling constant values. Various regimes with different values of ground state entanglement were revealed, depending on the relation between competing interaction strengths. Finally, some novel effects, such as the two-peak behavior of concurrence versus temperature and coexistence of phases with different values of magnetic entanglement, were observed.

Quantum discord in spin-cluster materials

M. A. Yurishchev

The total quantum correlation (discord) in Heisenberg dimers is expressed via the spin-spin correlation function, internal energy, specific heat, or magnetic susceptibility. This allows one to indirectly measure the discord through neutron scattering, as well as calorimetric or magnetometric experiments. Using the available experimental data, we found the discord for a number of binuclear Heisenberg substances with both antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic interactions. For the dimerized antiferromagnet copper nitrate $\mathrm{Cu}({\mathrm{NO}}_{3}){}_{2}\ifmmode\cdot\else\textperiodcentered\fi{}2.5{\mathrm{H}}_{2}\mathrm{O}$, the three independent experimental methods named above lead to a discord of approximately 0.2--0.3 bit/dimer at a temperature of 4 K. We also determined the temperature behavior of discord for hydrated and anhydrous copper acetates, as well as for the ferromagnetic binuclear copper acetate complex $[{\mathrm{Cu}}_{2}\mathrm{L}(\mathrm{OAc})]\ifmmode\cdot\else\textperiodcentered\fi{}6{\mathrm{H}}_{2}\mathrm{O}$, where L is a ligand.

Entanglement temperature in molecular magnets composed of S-spin dimers

Diogo O. Soares-Pinto, Alexandre M. Souza, Roberto S. Sarthour +5 more

In the present work, we investigate the quantum thermal entanglement in molecular magnets composed of dimers of spin S , using an Entanglement Witness built from measurements of magnetic susceptibility. An entanglement temperature, T e , is then obtained for some values of spin S . From this, it is shown that T e is proportional to the intradimer exchange interaction J and that entanglement appears only for antiferromagnetic coupling. The results are compared to experiments carried on three isostructural materials: KNaMSi 4 O 10 (M=Mn, Fe or Cu).

Investigation of bipartite entanglement across the magnetization process of a highly frustrated spin-1/2 Heisenberg octahedral chain as a new paradigm of the localized-magnon approach

J. Strečka, Olesia Krupnitska, Johannes Richter

Abstract The bipartite entanglement across the magnetization process of a highly frustrated spin-1/2 Heisenberg octahedral chain is examined within the concept of localized magnons, which enables a simple calculation of the concurrence measuring a strength of the pairwise entanglement between nearest-neighbor and next-nearest-neighbor spins from square plaquettes. A full exact diagonalization of the finite-size Heisenberg octahedral chain with up to 4 unit cells (20 spins) evidences an extraordinary high precision of the localized-magnon theory in predicting measures of the bipartite entanglement at sufficiently low temperatures. While the monomer-tetramer phase emergent at low enough magnetic fields exhibits presence (absence) of the bipartite entanglement between the nearest-neighbor (next-nearest-neighbor) spins, the magnon-crystal phase emergent below the saturation field contrarily displays identical bipartite entanglement between the nearest-neighbor and next-nearest-neighbor spins. The presented results verify a new paradigm of the localized-magnon approach concerned with a simple calculation of entanglement measures.

Experimental quantification of entanglement in quantum spin systems

Diptaranjan Das, Tanmoy Chakraborty, Tamal K. Sen +6 more

Entanglement has been extensively studied from the perspective of Quantum Information Processing for the last decade and various measures of entanglement, to quantify it are now available. Experimentally also it has been possible to measure entanglement in pure state, mostly in optics. However, in recent years there has been significant development in Quantum Condensed Matter systems, especially spin chains, where extraction of entanglement has been made possible through macroscopic witness operators like magnetic susceptibility. In this work, we have studied the magnetic properties of some spin chains, where the exchange interaction can be tuned by preparation technique and we have extracted a magnetic field and temperature dependence of entanglement from susceptibility and magnetization data taken at various temperatures and fields. The spin chains considered here fall in two categories, first one is an alternating dimer model and the second is an infinite spin chain. We have given the experimental plots of entanglement as a function of temperature and magnetic fields and compared them with the theoretical plots.
