Stretched Coherent States

Abstract

The fundamental properties of recently introduced stretched coherent states are investigated. It has been shown that stretched coherent states retain the fundamental properties of standard coherent states and generalize the resolution of unity, or completeness condition, and the probability distribution that $n$ photons are in a stretched coherent state. The stretched displacement and stretched squeezing operators are introduced and the multiplication law for stretched displacement operator is established. The results of the action of the stretched displacement and stretched squeezing operators on the vacuum and the Fock states are presented. Stretched squeezed stretched coherent states and stretched squeezed stretched displaced number states are introduced and their properties are studied. The inner product of two quantum mechanical vectors was defined in terms of their stretched coherent state representations, and functional Hilbert space was introduced.

Representations of coherent and squeezed states in af-deformed Fock space

R Roknizadeh, M K Tavassoly

We establish some of the properties of the states interpolating between number and coherent states denoted by | n ⟩ λ ; among them are the reproduction of these states by the action of an operator-valued function on | n ⟩ (the standard Fock space) and the fact that they can be regarded as f -deformed coherent bound states. In this paper we use them as the basis of our new Fock space which in this case is not orthogonal but normalized. Then by some special superposition of them we obtain new representations for coherent and squeezed states in the new basis. Finally the statistical properties of these states are studied in detail.

A Quantum Group Approach to some Exotic States in Quantum Optics

Roger McDermott

This subject of this thesis is the physical application of deformations of Lie algebras and their use in generalising some exotic quantum optical states. We begin by examining the theory of quantum groups and the q-boson algebras used in their representation theory. Following a review of the properties of conventional coherent states, we describe the extension of the theory to various deformed Heisenberg-Weyl algebras, as well as the q-deformations of su(2) and su(1,1). Using the Deformed Oscillator Algebra of Bonatsos and Daskaloyannis, we construct generalised deformed coherent states and investigate some of their quantum optical properties. We then demonstrate a resolution of unity for such states and suggest a way of investigating the geometric effects of the deformation. The formalism devised by Rembielinski et al is used to consider coherent states of the q-boson algebra over the quantum complex plane. We propose a new unitary operator which is a q-analogue of the displacement operator of conventional coherent state theory: This is used to construct q-displaced vacuum states which are eigenstates of the annihilation operator. Some quantum mechanical properties of these states are investigated and it is shown that they formally satisfy a Heisenberg-type minimum uncertainty relation. After briefly reviewing the theory of conventional squeezed states, we examine the various q-generalisations. We propose a q-analogue of the squeezed vacuum state, and use this in conjunction with the unitary q-displacement operator to construct a general q-squeezed state, parameterised by noncommuting variables.. It is shown that, like their conventional counterparts, such states satisfy the Robertson-Schrodinger Uncertainty Relation. We conclude with a brief discussion about the appearance of noncommuting variables in the states that have been considered.

On the Squeezing and Displacement of nth-Order

N. G. de Almeida, CELIA M. A. DANTAS

The norder expressions for the squeezed and coherent states are derived as a natural generalization of the usual squeezed coherent and coherent states. The photon number distribution of n order of squeezed coherent states that are eigenstates of the operators [Formula: see text] is derived. The n order coherent state is a particular case of the states that we are now deriving. Some mathematical and quantum statistical properties of these states are discussed.

Quantum-Optical States in Finite-Dimensional Hilbert Space. I. General Formalism

Adam Miranowicz, W. Leoński, Nobuyuki Imoto

This chapter presents two essentially different constructions of harmonic oscillator states in a finite-dimensional (FD) Hilbert space. The authors propose some new definitions of the states and find their explicit forms in the Fock representation. For the convenience of the reader, they bring together several known FD quantum-optical states, including FD coherent states, FD phase coherent states, FD displaced number states, FD Schrödinger cats, and FD squeezed vacuums. The discrete Wigner function is applied in order to demonstrate intriguing properties of the various states.

Coherent states in finite-dimensional Hilbert space and their Wigner representation

Tomáš Opatrný, Adam Miranowicz, J. Bajer

We consider two definitions of coherent states in a finite-dimensional Hilbert space based on (i) truncation of the usual coherent state expansion and (ii) generalization of the displacement operator acting on vacuum. The number-phase Wigner function is computed for such states. Analytical results and numerically computed graphs are presented. Special attention is paid to two-level states and to their Stokes parameter representations.

Displaced and squeezed parity operator: Its role in classical mappings of quantum theories

R. F. Bishop, Apostol Vourdas

The displaced parity operators are shown to have properties that bear a deep relationship with those of the Wigner functions. By exploiting these properties we show that these operators play an important role in linking together many of the aspects of the various exact phase-space mappings of quantum mechanics. These include the Wigner and Weyl representations, coherent states and the Bargmann representation, the P and Q representations, the Weyl correspondence, and the Moyal star product formalism. We also introduce corresponding displaced Fourier operators and show that their squares are just the displaced parity operators. The formalism is extended to squeezed and displaced parity operators, and their corresponding central role in the theory of squeezed coherent states and general squeezing is explained. We also elucidate the part played by the displaced parity operators in the Moyal star product and its extensions, as a first step towards a potential application of these operators in such modern developments as deformation theory and quantum groups. Finally, we indicate how the apparatus developed might also find applications in other recent exact classical mappings of many-particle quantum mechanics or quantum field theory, which are not special cases of deformation theory. Prime examples here include the powerful so-called independent-cluster method techniques, which incorporate the coupled-cluster method formalism with its inbuilt supercoherent states. Throughout the work we stress the central and unifying role played by the displaced parity operator and its generalizations.
