Abstract

We introduce a general method to engineer arbitrary Hamiltonians in the Floquet phase space of a periodically driven oscillator, based on the noncommutative Fourier transformation technique. We establish the relationship between an arbitrary target Floquet Hamiltonian in phase space and the periodic driving potential in real space. We obtain analytical expressions for the driving potentials in real space that can generate novel Hamiltonians in phase space, e.g., rotational lattices and sharp-boundary wells. Our protocol can be realized in a range of experimental platforms for nonclassical state generation and bosonic quantum computation.

Perturbative framework for engineering arbitrary Floquet Hamiltonian

Yingdan Xu, Lingzhen Guo

We develop a systematic perturbative framework to engineer an arbitrary target Hamiltonian in the Floquet phase space of a periodically driven oscillator based on Floquet-Magnus expansion. The high-order errors in the engineered Floquet Hamiltonian are mitigated by adding high-order driving potentials perturbatively. We introduce a transformation method that allows us to obtain an analytical expression of the leading-order correction drive for engineering a target Hamiltonian with discrete rotational and chiral symmetries in phase space. We also provide a numerically efficient procedure to calculate high-order correction drives and apply it to engineer the target Hamiltonian with degenerate eigenstates of multi-component cat states that are important for fault-tolerant hardware-efficiency bosonic quantum computation.

Floquet many-body engineering: topology and many-body physics in phase space lattices

Pengfei Liang, Michael Marthaler, Lingzhen Guo

Hamiltonians which are inaccessible in static systems can be engineered in periodically driven many-body systems, i.e., Floquet many-body systems. We propose to use interacting particles in a one-dimensional (1D) harmonic potential with periodic kicking to investigate two-dimensional topological and many-body physics. Depending on the driving parameters, the Floquet Hamiltonian of single kicked harmonic oscillator has various lattice structures in phase space. The noncommutative geometry of phase space gives rise to the topology of the system. We investigate the effective interactions of particles in phase space and find that the point-like contact interaction in quasi-1D real space becomes a long-rang Coulomb-like interaction in phase space, while the hardcore interaction in pure-1D real space becomes a confinement quark-like potential in phase space. We also find that the Floquet exchange interaction does not disappear even in the classical limit, and can be viewed as an effective long-range spin–spin interaction induced by collision. Our proposal may provide platforms to explore new physics and exotic phases by Floquet many-body engineering .

Synthesizing Arbitrary Non-Hermitian Hamiltonian with Stochastic Floquet Engineering

Lingzhen Guo, Hui Jing

The conventional Floquet engineering scheme synthesizes a given target Hamiltonian with a deterministic temporal periodic driving field. In this work, we introduce the stochastic Floquet engineering scheme that can synthesize an arbitrary non-Hermitian target Hamiltonian using a time-periodic driving field with noisy amplitude. Our method is rooted in the Hermitian dynamics taking noise as a valuable quantum resource with no need for loss or gain in prior. We apply our method to engineer a cavity Hamiltonian with dissipative coupling between Fock states, and to prepare a given quantum state from a generally arbitrary quantum state. The stochastic Floqut engineering also provides a way to generate non-unitary quantum gates, which take advantage in certain tasks compared to unitary quantum computing, without the need for ancillae or state-dependent updating.

Floquet-Engineering Counterdiabatic Protocols in Quantum Many-Body Systems

Pieter W. Claeys, Mohit Pandey, Dries Sels +1 more

Counterdiabatic (CD) driving presents a way of generating adiabatic dynamics at an arbitrary pace, where excitations due to nonadiabaticity are exactly compensated by adding an auxiliary driving term to the Hamiltonian. While this CD term is theoretically known and given by the adiabatic gauge potential, obtaining and implementing this potential in many-body systems is a formidable task, requiring knowledge of the spectral properties of the instantaneous Hamiltonians and control of highly nonlocal multibody interactions. We show how an approximate gauge potential can be systematically built up as a series of nested commutators, remaining well defined in the thermodynamic limit. Furthermore, the resulting CD driving protocols can be realized up to arbitrary order without leaving the available control space using tools from periodically driven (Floquet) systems. This is illustrated on few- and many-body quantum systems, where the resulting Floquet protocols significantly suppress dissipation and provide a drastic increase in fidelity.

Wave-packet revival in a Floquet engineering quadratic potential system

J. Cao, H. Shen, R. Wang +1 more

We investigate the quantum dynamics of a one-dimensional tight-binding lattice driven by a spatially quadratic and time-periodic potential. Both Hermitian ($J_1 = J_2$) and non-Hermitian ($J_1 \neq J_2$) hopping regimes are analyzed. Within the framework of Floquet theory, the time-dependent Hamiltonian is mapped onto an effective static Floquet Hamiltonian, enabling a detailed study of the quasi-energy spectrum as function of the driving frequency $ω$. By applying a gauge transformation, we find that critical frequencies $ω_c$ emerge, at which nearly equidistant quasi-energy ladders appear, as revealed by a pronounced minimum in the normalized variance $Δ(ω)$ of the level spacings. This spectral regularity leads to robust periodic revivals and Bloch-like oscillations in the time evolution. Numerical simulations confirm that such coherent oscillations persist even in the non-Hermitian regime, where the periodic driving stabilizes an almost real and uniformly spaced quasi-energy ladder.
