Quantum entanglement of anyon composites

Abstract

Studying quantum entanglement in systems of indistinguishable particles, in particular anyons, poses subtle challenges. Here, we investigate a model of one-dimensional anyons defined by a generalized algebra. This algebra has the special property that fermions in this model are composites of anyons. A Hubbad-like Hamiltonian is considered that allows hopping between nearest neighbour sites not just for the fundamental anyons, but for the fermionic anyon composites. Some interesting results regarding the quantum entanglement of these particles are obtained.

Quantum entanglement in one-dimensional anyons

Hamdi Mani, N. Ramadas, V. V. Sreedhar

Anyons in one spatial dimension can be defined by correctly identifying the configuration space of indistinguishable particles and imposing Robin boundary conditions. This allows an interpolation between the bosonic and fermionic limits. In this paper, we study the quantum entanglement between two one-dimensional anyons on a real line as a function of their statistics.

Indistinguishable entangled fermions: basics and future challenges

A. P. Majtey, Andrea Valdés-Hernández, Eloisa Cuestas

The study of entanglement in systems composed of identical particles raises interesting challenges with far-reaching implications in both, our fundamental understanding of the physics of composite quantum systems, and our capability of exploiting quantum indistinguishability as a resource in quantum information theory. Impressive theoretical and experimental advances have been made in the last decades that bring us closer to a deeper comprehension and to a better control of entanglement. Yet, when it involves composites of indistinguishable quantum systems, the very meaning of entanglement, and hence its characterization, still finds controversy and lacks a widely accepted definition. The aim of the present paper is to introduce, within an accessible and self-contained exposition, the basic ideas behind one of the approaches advanced towards the construction of a coherent definition of entanglement in systems of indistinguishable particles, with focus on fermionic systems. We also inquire whether the corresponding tools developed for studying entanglement in identical-fermion systems can be exploited when analysing correlations in distinguishable-party systems, in which the complete information of the individual parts is not available. Further, we open the discussion on the broader problem of constructing a suitable framework that accommodates entanglement in the presence of generalized statistics. This article is part of the theme issue 'Identity, individuality and indistinguishability in physics and mathematics'.

Quantum entanglement in fermionic lattices

Paolo Zanardi A

The Fock space of a system of indistinguishable particles is isomorphic (in a nonunique way) to the state space of a composite, i.e., many modes, quantum system. One can then discuss quantum entanglement for fermionic as well as bosonic systems. We exemplify the use of this notion---central in quantum information---by studying some, e.g., Hubbard, lattice fermionic models relevant to condensed matter physics.

Entanglement properties of composite quantum systems

K. Eckert, Otfried Gühne, F. Hulpke +6 more

We present here an overview of our work concerning entanglement properties of composite quantum systems. The characterization of entanglement, i.e. the possibility to assert if a given quantum state is entangled with others and how much entangled it is, remains one of the most fundamental open questions in quantum information theory. We discuss our recent results related to the problem of separability and distillability for distinguishable particles, employing the tool of witness operators. Finally, we also state our results concerning quantum correlations for indistinguishable particles.

Topological model of the composite fermions

Konrad Wieczorek, Lucjan Jacak

It is shown that composite fermions—particles which appear in fractional quantum Hall effect, and are statistically different from anyons—could be described within braid group formalism. In the proposed model some ways of exchange of bare particles of composite particles are restricted. The new group describing exchanges of particles is defined. The description of such a group is included and the unitary one-dimensional representation of this group is found. An explicit form of this group for two exemplary cases is presented.
