Frustrated spin-1/2 model with all-antiferromagnetic exchange on Shastry-Sutherland lattice (SSL) has been extensively explored, and in this work we study the quantum phase diagram of isotropic Heisenberg spin- 1 / 2 model on the SSL with ferromagnetic exchange interactions along leg, and antiferromagnetic couplings along the diagonal bonds ( J ). Using density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) and exact diagonalization calculations, we identify four distinct ground-state (gs) phases for this frustrated spin-1/2 model: stripe ( π , 0 ) , stripe ( 0 , π ) , ferromagnetic, and spiral-dimer phases. In the spiral-dimer phase the gs can exhibit dimer formation along the diagonal bonds with or without spins spiral along the x axis or y axis in different parameter regime and these states are connected through crossovers. There is a continuous transition between stripe with a long-range spin-spin correlations and spiral-dimer phase with a short-range correlations. An effective spin parameter is introduced to accurately determine the phase boundaries. Our DMRG results differ significantly from previous Schwinger boson mean-field theory predictions. The spiral phase occurs in a narrow range of the parameter space and shows short-range correlations in the system.
We investigate the ground-state phase diagram of the
S=1 and
S=3/2 Heisenberg model on the two-dimensional Shastry-Sutherland lattice (SSL) using density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) and cluster mean-field theory (CMFT). Between the dimer phase and Néel antiferromagnetic phases, we identify two intermediate phases: a mixed plaquette-dimer (MPD) phase and a spiral phase. These phases are characterized via bond energies and spin-spin correlation functions; phase boundaries are located from the ground-state energy derivative and entanglement entropy. The MPD phase exhibits strong intradimer correlations and weak tetramerization on the empty plaquettes, and its transitions to the dimer and spiral phases are first order. Combining our results with the known boundaries for
S=1/2 and the classical limit
S→∞, we construct a global
S-
g phase diagram. This diagram reveals the progressive suppression of quantum effects with increasing
S and offers a theoretical framework for larger-
S SSL materials.
We study the ground-state (GS) properties of the frustrated spin-
21 J1--
J2--
J3 Heisenberg model on the two-dimensional honeycomb lattice with ferromagnetic nearest-neighbor (${J}_{1}=\ensuremath{-}1$) exchange and frustrating antiferromagnetic next-nearest-neighbor (
J2>0) and next-next-nearest-neighbor (
J3>0) exchanges, for the case
J3=J2. We use the coupled-cluster method implemented to high orders of approximation, complemented by the Lanczos exact diagonalization of a large finite lattice with 32 sites, in order to calculate the GS energy, magnetic order parameter, and spin-spin correlation functions. In one scenario we find a quantum phase transition point between regions characterized by ferromagnetic order and a form of antiferromagnetic (``striped'') collinear order at ${J}_{2}^{c}\ensuremath{\approx}0.1095\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.0005$, which is below the corresponding hypothetical transition point at
J2cl=71 ($\ensuremath{\approx}0.143$) for the classical version of the model, in which we momentarily ignore the intervening noncollinear spiral phase in the region
101<J2<51. Hence we see that quantum fluctuations appear to stabilize somewhat the collinear antiferromagnetic order in preference to the ferromagnetic order in this model. We compare results for the present ferromagnetic case (with ${J}_{1}=\ensuremath{-}1$) to previous results for the corresponding antiferromagnetic case (with
J1=+1). The magnetic order parameter is found to behave similarly for the ferromagnetic and the antiferromagnetic models for large values of the frustration parameter
J2. However, there are considerable differences in the behavior of the order parameters for the two models for ${J}_{2}/|{J}_{1}|\ensuremath{\lesssim}0.6$. For example, the quasiclassical collinear magnetic long-range order for the antiferromagnetic model (with
J1=+1) breaks down at ${J}_{2}^{{c}_{2}}\ensuremath{\approx}0.60$, whereas the ``equivalent'' point for the ferromagnetic model (with ${J}_{1}=\ensuremath{-}1$) occurs at ${J}_{2}^{c}\ensuremath{\approx}0.11$. Unlike in the antiferromagnetic model (with
J1=+1), where a plaquette valence-bond crystal phase intrudes between the two corresponding quasiclassical antiferromagnetic phases (with N\'eel and striped order) for
J2c1<J2<J2c2, with ${J}_{2}^{{c}_{1}}\ensuremath{\approx}0.47$, we find no clear indications at all in the ferromagnetic model for an intermediate magnetically disordered phase between the corresponding phases exhibiting ferromagnetic and striped order. Instead the evidence for the ferromagnetic model (with ${J}_{1}=\ensuremath{-}1$) points to one of two scenarios: either there is a direct first-order transition between the two magnetically ordered phases, as mentioned above; or there exists an intervening phase between them in the very narrow range $0.10\ensuremath{\lesssim}{J}_{2}\ensuremath{\lesssim}0.12$, which is probably a remnant of the spiral phase that exists in the classical counterpart of the model over the larger range
101<J2<51.
Magnetization dependence on the external magnetic field was studied in a system with the Shastry–Sutherland lattice using exact diagonalization method at zero temperature within the xxz-model with spin S = 1/2. It was found that contrary to the classical Heisenberg model, the magnetization plateaus corresponding to m* = m/msat = 1/4, 1/3, and 1/2 (here msat is the saturation magnetization) exist even in the case of isotropic exchange interactions. The effect of exchange interaction on the width of the plateaus was studied. It was shown that depending on the ratio of exchange constants, there exist three regions corresponding to different types of the behavior of the system: the regions of a Neel-like antiferromagnet, a “dimer” antiferromagnet, and an intermediate region where the unique properties of Shastry–Sutherland lattices are most pronounced. The boundaries of these regions were also determined.
We consider the zero-temperature properties of the spin-half two-dimensional Shastry-Sutherland antiferromagnet by using a high-order coupled cluster method treatment. We find that this model demonstrates various ground-state phases (N\'eel, magnetically disordered, orthogonal dimer), and we make predictions for the positions of the phase transition points. In particular, we find that the orthogonal-dimer state becomes the ground state at ${J}_{2}^{d}∕{J}_{1}\ensuremath{\sim}1.477$. For the critical point
J2c∕J1 where the semiclassical N\'eel order disappears we obtain a significantly lower value than
J2d∕J1, namely,
J2c∕J1 in the range 1.14--1.39. We therefore conclude that an intermediate phase exists between the N\'eel and the dimer phases. An analysis of the energy of a competing spiral phase yields clear evidence that the spiral phase does not become the ground state for any value of
J2. The intermediate phase is therefore magnetically disordered but may exhibit plaquette or columnar dimer ordering.
We performed variational calculation based on the multi-scale entanglemnt renormalization ansatz, for the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a Shastry Sutherland lattice (SSL). Our results show that at coupling ratio J'/J= 0.687(3), the system undergoes a quantum phase transition from the orthogonal dimer order to the plaquette valence bond solid phase, which then transits into the antiferromagnetic order above J'/J=0.75. In the presence of an external magnetic field, our calculations show clear evidences of various magnetic plateaux in systems with different coupling ratios range from 0.5 to 0.69. Our calculations are not limited to the small coupling ratio region, and we are able to show strong evidence of the presence of several supersolid phases, including ones above 1/2 and 1/3 plateaux. Such supersolid phases, which feature the coexistence of compressible superfluidity and crystalline long range order in triplet excitations, emerge at relatively large coupling ratio (J'/J>0.5). A schematic phase diagram of the SSL model in the presence of magnetic field is provided.
