Abstract

In this work we explore an instance of the \tau τ -function of vertex type operators, specified in terms of a constant phase shift in a free-fermionic basis. From the physical point of view this \tau τ -function has multiple interpretations: as a correlator of Jordan-Wigner strings, a Loschmidt Echo in the Aharonov-Bohm effect, or the generating function of the local densities in the Tonks-Girardeau gas. We present the \tau τ -function as a form-factors series and tackle it from four vantage points: (i) we perform an exact summation and express it in terms of a Fredholm determinant in the thermodynamic limit, (ii) we use bosonization techniques to perform partial summations of soft modes around the Fermi surface to acquire the scaling at zero temperature, (iii) we derive large space and time asymptotic behavior for the thermal Fredholm determinant by relating it to effective form-factors with an asymptotically similar kernel, and (iv) we identify and sum the important basis elements directly through a tailor-made numerical algorithm for finite-entropy states in a free-fermionic Hilbert space. All methods confirm each other. We find that, in addition to the exponential decay in the finite-temperature case the dynamic correlation functions exhibit an extra power law in time, universal over any distribution and time scale.

Effective free-fermionic form factors and the XY spin chain

Oleksandr Gamayun, N. Z. Iorgov, Yuri Zhuravlev

We introduce effective form factors for one-dimensional lattice fermions with arbitrary phase shifts. We study tau functions defined as series of these form factors. On the one hand we perform the exact summation and present tau functions as Fredholm determinants in the thermodynamic limit. On the other hand simple expressions of form factors allow us to present the corresponding series as integrals of elementary functions. Using this approach we re-derive the asymptotics of static correlation functions of the XY quantum chain at finite temperature.

Dynamical correlation functions in the Ising field theory

István Csépányi, Márton Kormos

We study finite temperature dynamical correlation functions of the magnetization operator in the one-dimensional Ising quantum field theory. Our approach is based on a finite temperature form factor series and on a Fredholm determinant representation of the correlators. While for space-like separations the Fredholm determinant can be efficiently evaluated numerically, for the time-like region it has convergence issues inherited from the form factor series. We develop a method to compute the correlation functions at time-like separations based on the analytic continuation of the space-time coordinates to complex values. Using this numerical technique, we explore all space-time and temperature regimes in both the ordered and disordered phases including short, large, and near-light-cone separations at low and high temperatures. We confirm the existing analytic predictions for the asymptotic behavior of the correlations except in the case of space-like correlations in the paramagnetic phase. For this case we derive a new closed form expression for the correlation length that has some unusual properties: it is a non-analytic function of both the space-time direction and the temperature, and its temperature dependence is non-monotonic.

Finite temperature Fredholm determinants for dynamical correlation functions

Oleksandr Gamayun

We study the long-time, large-distance asymptotics of finite-temperature dynamical Fredholm determinants using effective form factors. The method expresses these asymptotics as a functional of an effective phase shift. We determine its two branches on either side of a quadratic stationary point and the transition profile joining them. The profile is expressed through parabolic-cylinder functions. Its connection to the high-temperature Gaussian $β$ ensemble fixes the finite normalization, in agreement with an independent Riemann--Hilbert analysis. We also show that the leading exponential asymptotics suffice to recover the Euler-scale prediction of generalized hydrodynamics for the dynamical structure factor of hard rods.

Time-dependent correlation function of the Jordan-Wigner operator as a Fredholm determinant

Mikhail B. Zvonarev, Vadim Cheianov, Thierry Giamarchi

We calculate a correlation function of the Jordan-Wigner operator in a class of free-fermion models formulated on an infinite one-dimensional lattice. We represent this function in terms of the determinant of an integrable Fredholm operator, convenient for analytic and numerical investigations. By using Wick's theorem, we avoid the form-factor summation customarily used in literature for treating similar problems.

Large-time and long-distance asymptotics of the thermal correlators of the impenetrable anyonic lattice gas

Yuri Zhuravlev, Eduard Naichuk, N. Z. Iorgov +1 more

We study thermal correlation functions of the one-dimensional impenetrable lattice anyons. These correlation functions can be presented as a difference of two Fredholm determinants. To describe the large-time and long-distance behavior of these objects, we use the effective form-factor approach. The asymptotic behavior is different in the spacelike and timelike regions. In particular, in the timelike region we observe the additional power factor on top of the exponential decay. We argue that this result is universal as it is related to the discontinuous behavior of the phase shift function of the effective fermions. At particular values of the anyonic parameter, we recover the asymptotics of the spin-spin correlation functions in the $XX$ quantum chain.
