Abstract

We use the formalism of strange correlators to construct a critical classical lattice model in two dimensions with the Haagerup fusion category H_{3} as input data. We present compelling numerical evidence in the form of finite entanglement scaling to support a Haagerup conformal field theory (CFT) with central charge c=2. Generalized twisted CFT spectra are numerically obtained through exact diagonalization of the transfer matrix, and the conformal towers are separated in the spectra through their identification with the topological sectors. It is further argued that our model can be obtained through an orbifold procedure from a larger lattice model with input Z(H_{3}), which is the simplest modular tensor category that does not admit an algebraic construction. This provides a counterexample for the conjecture that all rational CFT can be constructed from standard methods.

Exploring the phase diagram of $SU(2)_4$ strange correlator

Shen, Ce

We investigate the phase diagram of a quantum many-body system constructed via the strange correlator approach, based on the non-Abelian $SU(2)_4$ fusion category, to probe topological phase transitions. Using tensor network methods, we numerically compute the half-infinite chain entanglement entropy derived from the dominant eigenvector of the transfer matrix and map the entropy across a spherical two-dimensional parameter space. Our results reveal a phase diagram significantly more complex than previously reported, including a gapless phase consistent with a conformal field theory (CFT) of central charge $c=1$. Critical lines separating distinct phases are identified, with one such line bounding the CFT phase exhibiting a higher central charge $c=2$, indicative of an unconventional critical regime.

Numerical Evidence for a Haagerup Conformal Field Theory

Tzu-Chen Huang, Ying-Hsuan Lin, Kantaro Ohmori +2 more

We numerically study an anyon chain based on the Haagerup fusion category and find evidence that it leads in the long-distance limit to a conformal field theory whose central charge is ∼2. Fusion categories generalize the concept of finite group symmetries to noninvertible symmetry operations, and the Haagerup fusion category is the simplest one which comes from neither finite groups nor affine Lie algebras. As such, ours is the first example of conformal field theories which have truly exotic generalized symmetries. Basically the same result was independently obtained in the preceding Letter [Phys. Rev. Lett. 128, 231602 (2022)PRLTAO0031-900710.1103/PhysRevLett.128.231602].

Extracting conformal data from finite-size tensor-network flow in critical two-dimensional classical models

Sing-Hong Chan, Pochung Chen

We present a general framework for extracting conformal data from critical two-dimensional classical lattice models using finite-size tensor-network flow. The central idea is to identify, from transfer-matrix spectra, a self-consistent finite-size window together with a crossover scale that separates the finite-size-scaling regime from the finite-entanglement-scaling regime induced by bond-dimension truncation. Within this window, the central charge, scaling dimensions, and conformal spins can be estimated without requiring a unique critical fixed-point tensor or detailed prior knowledge of the underlying conformal field theory. We benchmark the framework using three tensor-network renormalization schemes for the critical two-dimensional Ising and three-state clock models. Across schemes, we find robust universal behavior below the crossover scale, enabling accurate extraction of conformal data up to relatively high conformal levels. The analysis also yields a natural operational definition of entanglement scaling for classical tensor-network calculations and, in turn, a complementary estimator of the central charge.

A 2D-CFT Factory: Critical Lattice Models from Competing Anyon Condensation Processes in SymTO/SymTFT

Ling-Yan Hung, Kaixin Ji, Ce Shen +2 more

In this paper, we introduce a ``CFT factory'' : a novel algorithm of methodically generating 2D lattice models that would flow to 2D conformal fixed points in the infrared. These 2D models are realised by giving critical boundary conditions to 3D topological orders (symTOs/symTFTs) described by string-net models, often called the strange correlators. We engineer these critical boundary conditions by introducing a commensurate amount of non-commuting anyon condensates. The non-invertible symmetries preserved at the critical point can be controlled by studying a novel ``refined condensation tree''. Our structured method generates an infinite family of critical lattice models, including the A-series minimal models, and uncovers previously unknown critical points. Notably, we find at least three novel critical points (c$\approx 1.3$, $1.8$, and $2.5$ respectively) preserving the Haagerup symmetries, in addition to recovering previously reported ones. The condensation tree, together with a generalised Kramers-Wannier duality, predicts precisely large swathes of phase boundaries, fixes almost completely the global phase diagram, and sieves out second order phase transitions. This is not only illustrated in well-known examples (such as the 8-vertex model related to the $A_5$ category) but also further verified with precision numerics, using our improved (non-invertible) symmetry-preserving tensor-network RG, in novel examples involving the Haagerup symmetries. We show that critical couplings can be precisely encoded in the categorical data (Frobenius algebras and quantum dimensions in unitary fusion categories), thus establishing a powerful, systematic route to discovering and potentially classifying new conformal field theories.

Operator fusion from wave-function overlap: Universal finite-size corrections and application to the Haagerup model

Yuhan Liu, Yijian Zou, Shinsei Ryu

Given a critical quantum spin chain described by a conformal field theory (CFT) at long distances, it is crucial to understand the universal conformal data. One most important ingredient is the operator product expansion (OPE) coefficients, which describe how operators fuse into each other. It has been proposed in [Zou and Vidal, Phys. Rev. B 105, 125125 (2022)] that the OPE coefficients can be computed from overlaps of low-energy wave functions of the spin chain. In this paper, we establish that all conformal data including central charge, conformal dimensions, and OPE coefficients are encoded in the wave-function overlaps, with universal finite-size corrections that depend on the operator content of the cyclic orbifold CFT. Thus this method allows us to numerically compute all the conformal data based solely on the low-energy eigenstates. The predictions are verified in the Ising and XXZ model. As an application, we study the recently proposed Haagerup model built from the Haagerup fusion category. We find that the CFT has central charge $c\ensuremath{\approx}2.1$ and the lowest spin-1 operator in the twisted sector has scaling dimension $1<{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}}_{J}\ensuremath{\le}1.4$.

Precision Reconstruction of Rational Conformal Field Theory from Exact Fixed-Point Tensor Network

Gong Cheng, Lin Chen, Zheng‐Cheng Gu +1 more

The novel concept of entanglement renormalization and its corresponding tensor network renormalization technique have been highly successful in developing a controlled real-space renormalization group (RG) scheme. Numerically approximate fixed-point (FP) tensors are widely used to extract the conformal data of the underlying conformal field theory (CFT) describing critical phenomena. In this paper, we present an explicit analytical construction of the FP tensor for 2D rational CFT. We define it as a correlation function between the “boundary-changing operators” (BCO) on triangles. Our construction fully captures all the real-space RG conditions. We also provide concrete examples, such as Ising, Yang-Lee, and tricritical Ising models, to compute the scaling dimensions explicitly based on the corresponding FP tensor. The BCO descendants turn out to be an optimal basis such that truncation in bond dimensions naturally produces comparable accuracies with the leading existing FP algorithms. Interestingly, our construction of FP tensors is closely related to a strange correlator, where the holographic picture naturally emerges. Our results also open a new door toward understanding CFT in higher dimensions.
