Abstract

The novel concept of entanglement renormalization and its corresponding tensor network renormalization technique have been highly successful in developing a controlled real-space renormalization group (RG) scheme. Numerically approximate fixed-point (FP) tensors are widely used to extract the conformal data of the underlying conformal field theory (CFT) describing critical phenomena. In this paper, we present an explicit analytical construction of the FP tensor for 2D rational CFT. We define it as a correlation function between the “boundary-changing operators” (BCO) on triangles. Our construction fully captures all the real-space RG conditions. We also provide concrete examples, such as Ising, Yang-Lee, and tricritical Ising models, to compute the scaling dimensions explicitly based on the corresponding FP tensor. The BCO descendants turn out to be an optimal basis such that truncation in bond dimensions naturally produces comparable accuracies with the leading existing FP algorithms. Interestingly, our construction of FP tensors is closely related to a strange correlator, where the holographic picture naturally emerges. Our results also open a new door toward understanding CFT in higher dimensions.

Fixed-point tensor network for compactified boson conformal field theory

Gong Cheng, Dong-Yu Bao, Zheng‐Cheng Gu

Fixed-point (FP) tensor networks provide a discrete spacetime representation of conformal field theories (CFTs), offering a new route toward understanding holographic duality, generalized symmetries, and even quantum gravity. In this work, we construct FP tensors for the 2D compactified boson theory at a generic compactification radius, an archetypal irrational CFT, using boundary (open-string) data with conformal boundary conditions. We show that the resulting tensors reproduce the closed-string spectrum with high accuracy and generate stable renormalization-group (RG) flows under the tensor complex renormalization algorithm. Moreover, we identify a controllable exactly marginal deformation at the level of a single tensor, enabling flows that move continuously along the $c=1$ moduli space. This framework establishes a concrete lattice-level route toward describing a broad class of 2D irrational CFTs.

CFT D from TQFT D + 1 via Holographic Tensor Network, and Precision Discretization of CFT 2

Lin Chen, Kaixin Ji, Hao-Chen Zhang +4 more

We show that the path integral of conformal field theories in D dimensions ( CFT D ) can be constructed by solving for eigenstates of a renormalization group (RG) operator following from the Turaev-Viro formulation of a topological field theory (topological quantum field theory) (TQFT) in D + 1 dimensions ( TQFT D + 1 ), explicitly realizing the holographic sandwich relation between a symmetric theory and a TQFT. Generically, exact eigenstates corresponding to symmetric TQFT D follow from Frobenius algebra in TQFT D + 1 . For D = 2 , we construct eigenstates that produce 2D rational CFT path integrals exactly, which curiously connect a continuous-field theoretic path integral with the Turaev-Viro state sum. We also devise and illustrate numerical methods for D = 2 , 3 to search for CFT D as phase transition points between symmetric TQFT D . Finally, since the RG operator is in fact an exact analytic holographic tensor network, we compute “bulk-boundary” correlators and compare them with the AdS/CFT dictionary at D = 2 . Promisingly, they are numerically compatible given our accuracy, although further works will be needed to explore the precise connection to the AdS/CFT correspondence. Tensor Network Methods for Extracting CFT Data from Fixed-Point Tensors and Defect Coarse Graining

Wenhan Guo, Tzu-Chieh Wei

We present a comprehensive study on the extraction of CFT data using tensor network methods, specially, from the fixed-point tensor of the linearized tensor renormalization group (lTRG) for the 2D classical Ising model near the critical temperature. Utilizing two different methods, we extract operator scaling dimensions and operator-product-expansion (OPE) coefficients by introducing defects on the lattice and by employing the fixed-point tensor. We also explore the effects of point-like defects in the lattice on the coarse-graining process. We find that there is a correspondence between coarse-grained defect tensors and conformal states obtained from lTRG fixed-point equation. We also analyze the capabilities and limitations of our proposed coarse-graining scheme for tensor networks with point-like defects, which includes graph independent local truncation (GILT) and higher-order tensor renormalization group (HOTRG). Our results provide a better understanding of the capacity and limitations of the tenor renormalization group scheme in coarse-graining defect tensors, and we show that GILT+HOTRG can be used to give accurate two- and four-point functions under specific conditions. We also find that employing the minimal canonical form further improves the stability of the RG flow.

Tensor complex renormalization with generalized symmetry and topological bootstrap

Bao, Dong-Yu, Gong Cheng, Hong-Hao Song +1 more

Recent progress in generalized symmetry and topological holography has shown that, in conformal field theory (CFT), topological data from one dimensional higher can play a key role in determining local dynamics. Based on this insight, a fixed-point (FP) tensor complex (TC) for CFT has recently been constructed. In this work, we develop a TC renormalization (TCR) algorithm adapted to this CFT-based structure, forming a renormalization-group (RG) framework with generalized symmetry. We show that the full FP tensor can emerge from the RG flow starting with only the three-point function of the primary fields. Remarkably, even when starting solely from topological data, the RG process can still reconstruct the full FP tensor--a method we call as topological bootstrap. This approach deepens the connection between the topological and dynamical aspects of CFT and suggests pathways toward a fully algebraic description of gapless quantum states, with potential extensions to higher dimensions.

Algebraic Tensor Network Renormalization and Holographic duality

Chenqi Meng, Tian Lan, Zheng‐Cheng Gu

Emergent generalized symmetries and the holographic principle play very important roles in understanding quantum phase transitions. In recent years, tensor-network renormalization with generalized symmetry and the corresponding fixed-point tensor formulation have been proposed as a discrete spacetime framework for reformulating conformal field theory. Nevertheless, a complete holographic formulation within this framework is still lacking, and the current formulation does not directly accommodate sector partition functions that are modular covariant in general. In this work, we formulate $\mathcal{R}$-TNR, which builds the categorical constraints of a fusion category $\mathcal{R}$ into local tensor spaces and preserves these constraints under Loop-TNR. For suitable choices of $\mathcal{R}$, the initial tensors constructed here flow under $\mathcal{R}$-Loop-TNR to stable gapless fixed points. In the Ising, tricritical Ising, and three-state Potts conformal field theory examples, a broad range of initial parameters leads to the same gapless fixed point in each example. The method resolves conformal towers by anyon sector and yields scaling dimensions, conformal spins, and magnitudes of sector-resolved structure constants with extremely high accuracy compared to previous methods. These results realize a topological bootstrap based on stable symmetry-topological-order in which finite categorical and geometric input, together with an initial tensor that need not be fine-tuned, suffices to recover the infrared conformal field theory and its sector-resolved conformal data.
