Abstract

In this paper, we show that several applications of [Formula: see text] fermions to statistical mechanics and quantum field theory, previously discussed in literature, are based on a wrong statement about the connection between deformed and undeformed fermion operators. Then we exclude various classes of ansatz and we put some constraints about the form of such relation.

Quantum Field Theory of Fermions and Parafermions Constructed from Quantum Bose Fields. II: A Remark on the Observables

The Bose representation of physical variables corresponding to a Fermi system was shown in a previous paper. However, as Bose operators they had a very unorthodox appearance. In the present paper we show that the Bose representation of such Fermi variables can be put into the usual forms of boson variables. One part of the results is extended to para-Fermi statistics.

States, symmetries and correlators of $T\bar{T}$ and $ J\bar{T} $ symmetric orbifolds

Soumangsu Chakraborty, Silvia Georgescu, Monica Guica

We derive various properties of symmetric product orbifolds of T\bar T T T ‾ and J\bar T J T ‾ - deformed CFTs from a field-theoretical perspective. First, we generalise the known formula for the torus partition function of a symmetric orbifold theory in terms of the one of the seed to non-conformal two-dimensional QFTs; specialising this to seed T\bar T T T ‾ and J\bar T J T ‾ - deformed CFTs reproduces previous results in the literature. Second, we show that the single-trace T\bar T T T ‾ and J\bar T J T ‾ deformations preserve the Virasoro and Kac-Moody symmetries of the undeformed symmetric product orbifold CFT, including their fractional counterparts, as well as the KdV charges. Finally, we discuss correlation functions in these theories. By extending a previously-proposed basis of operators for J\bar T J T ‾ - deformed CFTs to the single-trace case, we explicitly compute the correlation functions of both untwisted and twisted-sector operators and compare them to an appropriate set of holographic correlators. Our derivations are based mainly on Hilbert space techniques and completely avoid the use of conformal invariance, which is not present in these models.

Quantization and superselection sectors III: Multiply connected spaces and indistinguishable particles

Nicolaas P. Landsman

We reconsider the (non-relativistic) quantum theory of indistinguishable particles on the basis of Rieffel’s notion of [Formula: see text]-algebraic (“strict”) deformation quantization. Using this formalism, we relate the operator approach of Messiah and Greenberg (1964) to the configuration space approach pioneered by Souriau (1967), Laidlaw and DeWitt-Morette (1971), Leinaas and Myrheim (1977), and others. In dimension [Formula: see text], the former yields bosons, fermions, and paraparticles, whereas the latter seems to leave room for bosons and fermions only, apparently contradicting the operator approach as far as the admissibility of parastatistics is concerned. To resolve this, we first prove that in [Formula: see text] the topologically non-trivial configuration spaces of the second approach are quantized by the algebras of observables of the first. Secondly, we show that the irreducible representations of the latter may be realized by vector bundle constructions, among which the line bundles recover the results of the second approach. Mathematically speaking, representations on higher-dimensional bundles (which define parastatistics) cannot be excluded, which render the configuration space approach incomplete. Physically, however, we show that the corresponding particle states may always be realized in terms of bosons and/or fermions with an unobserved internal degree of freedom (although based on non-relativistic quantum mechanics, this conclusion is analogous to the rigorous results of the Doplicher–Haag–Roberts analysis in algebraic quantum field theory, as well as to the heuristic arguments which led Gell-Mann and others to qcd (i.e. Quantum Chromodynamics)).

Anyons and Deformed Lie Algebras

M. Frau, Alberto Lerda A, S. Sciuto

We discuss the connection between anyons (particles with fractional statistics) and deformed Lie algebras (quantum groups). After a brief review of the main properties of anyons, we present the details of the anyonic realization of all deformed classical Lie algebras in terms of anyonic oscillators. The deformation parameter of the quantum groups is directly related to the statistics parameter of the anyons. Such a realization is a direct generalization of the Schwinger construction in terms of fermions and is based on a sort of bosonization formula which yields the generators of the deformed algebra in terms of the undeformed ones. The entire procedure is well defined on two-dimensional lattices, but it can be consistently reduced also to one-dimensional chains.
