Abstract

We compute the entanglement negativity for various pure and mixed state configurations in a bath coupled to an evaporating two dimensional non-extremal Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) black hole obtained through the partial dimensional reduction of a three dimensional BTZ black hole. Our results exactly reproduce the analogues of the Page curve for the entanglement negativity which were recently determined through diagrammatic technique developed in the context of random matrix theory.

Islands for entanglement negativity in communicating black holes

Mir Afrasiar, Jaydeep Kumar Basak, Ashish Chandra +1 more

We obtain the holographic entanglement negativity for bipartite mixed states at a finite temperature in baths described by conformal field theories dual to configurations involving two communicating black holes in a braneworld geometry. In this context, we analyze the mixed state entanglement structure characterized by the information transfer between the black holes. The model corresponds to a configuration of two dimensional eternal Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) black holes in a braneworld geometry involving two Planck branes coupled through shared bath systems described by ${\mathrm{CFT}}_{2}\mathrm{s}$. Our results reproduce analogue of the Page curves for the entanglement negativity obtained earlier in the context of random matrix theory and from geometric evaporation in JT black hole configurations.

Entanglement Negativity Spectrum of Random Mixed States: A Diagrammatic Approach

Hassan Shapourian, Shang Liu, Jonah Kudler-Flam +1 more

The entanglement properties of random pure states are relevant to a variety of problems ranging from chaotic quantum dynamics to black-hole physics. The averaged bipartite entanglement entropy of such states admits a volume law and upon increasing the subregion size follows the Page curve. In this paper, we generalize this setup to random mixed states by coupling the system to a bath and use the partial transpose to study their entanglement properties. We develop a diagrammatic method to incorporate partial transpose within random matrix theory and formulate a perturbation theory in 1/L, the inverse of the Hilbert-space dimension. We compute several quantities including the spectral density of partial transpose (or entanglement negativity spectrum), two-point correlator of eigenvalues, and the logarithmic negativity. As long as the bath is smaller than the system, we find that upon sweeping the subregion size, the logarithmic negativity shows an initial increase and a final decrease similar to the Page curve, while it admits a plateau in the intermediate regime where the logarithmic negativity depends only on the size of the system and of the bath but not on how the system is partitioned. This intermediate phase has no analog in random pure states, and is separated from the two other regimes by a critical point. We further show that when the bath is larger than the system by at least two extra qubits the logarithmic negativity is identically zero, which implies that there is no distillable entanglement. Using the diagrammatic approach, we provide a simple derivation of the semicircle law of the entanglement negativity spectrum in the latter two regimes. We show that despite the appearance of a semicircle distribution, reminiscent of Gaussian unitary ensemble (GUE), the higher-order corrections to the negativity spectrum and two-point correlator deviate from those of GUE.

Entanglement negativity and defect extremal surface

Yilu Shao, Ma-Ke Yuan, Yang Zhou

We study entanglement negativity for evaporating black hole based on the holographic model with defect brane. We introduce a defect extremal surface formula for entanglement negativity. Based on partial reduction, we show the equivalence between defect extremal surface formula and island formula for entanglement negativity in AdS _3 3 /BCFT _2 2 . Extending the study to the model of eternal black hole plus CFT bath, we find that black hole-black hole negativity decreases until vanishing, left black hole-left radiation negativity is always a constant, radiation-radiation negativity increases and then saturates at a time later than Page time. In all the time dependent cases, defect extremal surface formula agrees with island formula.

Replica wormholes and holographic entanglement negativity

Xi Dong, Sean McBride, Wayne W. Weng

Abstract Recent work has shown how to understand the Page curve of an evaporating black hole from replica wormholes. However, more detailed information about the structure of its quantum state is needed to fully understand the dynamics of black hole evaporation. Here we study entanglement negativity, an important measure of quantum entanglement in mixed states, in a couple of toy models of evaporating black holes. We find four phases dominated by different types of geometries: the disconnected, cyclically connected, anti-cyclically connected, and pairwise connected geometries. The last of these geometries are new replica wormholes that break the replica symmetry spontaneously. We also analyze the transitions between these four phases by summing more generic replica geometries using a Schwinger-Dyson equation. In particular, we find enhanced corrections to various negativity measures near the transition between the cyclic and pairwise phase.

Islands and Page curves for a family of exactly solvable evaporating black holes

Xuanhua Wang, Ran Li, Jin Wang

Analyses suggest that the quantum RT construction can be effectively extended beyond the asymptotically AdS spacetime for the calculation of the entanglement entropy. We study the entanglement entropy of a one-parameter family of exactly solvable gravities in the 2-dimensional asymptotically-flat space, and investigate the evaporating and the bath-removed black hole solutions including both the RST and the BPP black holes as two special cases. We generalize the results on the Page curves of evaporating (dynamical) black holes to this family of gravities and compute the corresponding entanglement entropy explicitly. The Page curves and the configuration of islands directly follow from the calculation. In the case of evaporating black holes formed by collapsing matter shells, the Page time is around a third of the black hole evaporating time and the island lies inside the horizon. In the bath-removed black hole case, the position of the islands is discontinuous across two different spacetime geometries and two transition points are witnessed in this model. We analyze the island configurations and the Page curves in the large-N limit in both cases and restore the unitary Page curves.
