Abstract

Abstract This article is a response to the continued assumption, cited even in reports and reviews of recent experimental breakthroughs and advances in theoretical methods, that the antiJaynes-Cummings (AJC)interaction is an intractable energy non-conserving component of the quantum Rabi model (QRM). We present three key features of QRM dynamics : (a) the AJC interaction component has a conserved excitation number operator and is exactly solvable (b) QRM dynamical space consists of a rotating frame (RF) dominated by an exactly solved Jaynes-Cummings (JC) interaction specied by a conserved JC excitation number operator which generates the U(1) symmetry of RF and a correlated counter-rotating frame (CRF) dominated by an exactly solved antiJaynes-Cummings (AJC) interaction specied by a conserved AJC excitation number operator which generates the U(1) symmetry of CRF (c) for QRM dynamical evolution in RF, the initial atom-eld state je0i is an eigenstate of the effective AJC Hamiltonian HAJC, while the effective JC Hamiltonian HJC drives this initial state je0i into a time evolving entangled state, and, in a corresponding process for QRM dynamical evolution in CRF, the initial atom-eld state jg0i is an eigenstate of the effective JC Hamiltonian, while the effective AJC Hamiltonian drives this initial state jg0i into a time evolving entangled state, thus addressing one of the long-standing challenges of theoretical and experimental QRM dynamics; consistent generalizations of the initial states je0i , jg0i to corresponding n 0 entangled eigenstates j+en i , j 􀀀g ni of the AJC in RF and JC in CRF, respectively, provides general dynamical evolution of QRM characterized by collapses and revivals in the time evolution of the atomic, eld mode, JC and AJC excitation numbers for large initial photon numbers ; the JC and AJC excitation numbers are conserved in the respective frames RF, CRF, but each evolves with time in the alternate frame.

Exactly solvable approximating models for Rabi Hamiltonian dynamics

Andrey Pereverzev, Eric R. Bittner

The interaction between an atom and a one mode external driving field is an ubiquitous problem in many branches of physics and is often modeled using the Rabi Hamiltonian. In this paper we present a series of analytically solvable Hamiltonians that approximate the Rabi Hamiltonian and compare our results to the Jaynes-Cummings model which neglects the so-called counter-rotating term in the Rabi Hamiltonian. Through a unitary transformation that diagonalizes the Jaynes-Cummings model, we transform the counter-rotating term into separate terms representing several different physical processes. By keeping only certain terms, we can achieve an excellent approximation to the exact dynamics within specified parameter ranges.

Vacuum Rabi Splitting and Dynamics of the Jaynes—Cummings Model for Arbitrary Coupling

Yuyu Zhang, Qing‐Hu Chen, Shi-Yao Zhu

The effects of counter-rotating terms (CRTs) on Rabi splitting and the dynamic evolution of atomic population in the Jaynes—Cummings model are studied with a coherent-state approach. When the coupling strength increases, the Rabi splitting becomes of multi-Rabi frequencies for the initial state of an excited atom in a vacuum field, and the collapses and revivals gradually disappear, and then reappear with quite good periodicity. Without the rotating-wave approximation (RWA), the initial excited state contains many eigenstates rather than two eigenstates under the RWA, which results in the multi-peak emission spectrum. An analytical approximate solution for the strong coupling regime is obtained, which gives a new oscillation frequency and explains the recovery of collapses and revivals due to the equal energy spacing.

Exploring supersymmetry: Interchangeability between Jaynes-Cummings and anti-Jaynes-Cummings models

Ivan A. Bocanegra-Garay, Miguel Castillo-Celeita, J. Negro +2 more

The supersymmetric connection that exists between the Jaynes-Cummings (JC) and anti-Jaynes Cummings (AJC) models in quantum optics is unraveled entirely. A new method is proposed to obtain the temporal evolution of observables in the AJC model using supersymmetric techniques, providing an overview of its dynamics and extending the calculation to full photon counting statistics. The approach is general and can be applied to determine the high-order cumulants given an initial state. The analysis reveals that engineering the collapse-revival behavior and the quantum properties of the interacting field is possible by controlling the initial state of the atomic subsystem and the corresponding atomic frequency in the AJC model. The substantial potential for applications of supersymmetric techniques in the context of photonic quantum technologies is thus demonstrated. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Effective Hamiltonian of the Jaynes–Cummings model beyond rotating-wave approximation*

Yifan Wang, Hong-Hao Yin, Ming-Yue Yang +2 more

The Jaynes–Cummings model with or without rotating-wave approximation plays a major role to study the interaction between atom and light. We investigate the Jaynes–Cummings model beyond the rotating-wave approximation. Treating the counter-rotating terms as periodic drivings, we solve the model in the extended Floquet space. It is found that the full energy spectrum folded in the quasi-energy bands can be described by an effective Hamiltonian derived in the high-frequency regime. In contrast to the Z 2 symmetry of the original model, the effective Hamiltonian bears an enlarged U(1) symmetry with a unique photon-dependent atom-light detuning and coupling strength. We further analyze the energy spectrum, eigenstate fidelity and mean photon number of the resultant polaritons, which are shown to be in accordance with the numerical simulations in the extended Floquet space up to an ultra-strong coupling regime and are not altered significantly for a finite atom-light detuning. Our results suggest that the effective model provides a good starting point to investigate the rich physics brought by counter-rotating terms in the frame of Floquet theory.

Conserved excitation number and U(1)-symmetry operator for the anti-rotating (anti-Jaynes-Cummings) term of the Rabi Hamiltonian

Joseph Akeyo Omolo

In this article we apply algebraic operator ordering property of the basic atom and field operators to construct and prove conservation of the excitation number operator of the anti-rotating (anti-Jaynes-Cummings) component of the quantum Rabi model. The corresponding U(1) and parity symmetry operators have also been derived in explicit form.

Analytical Solution for the Anisotropic Rabi Model: Effects of Counter-Rotating Terms

Guofeng Zhang, Han‐Jie Zhu

The anisotropic Rabi model, which was proposed recently, differs from the original Rabi model: the rotating and counter-rotating terms are governed by two different coupling constants. This feature allows us to vary the counter-rotating interaction independently and explore the effects of it on some quantum properties. In this paper, we eliminate the counter-rotating terms approximately and obtain the analytical energy spectrums and wavefunctions. These analytical results agree well with the numerical calculations in a wide range of the parameters including the ultrastrong coupling regime. In the weak counter-rotating coupling limit we find out that the counter-rotating terms can be considered as the shifts to the parameters of the Jaynes-Cummings model. This modification shows the validness of the rotating-wave approximation on the assumption of near-resonance and relatively weak coupling. Moreover, the analytical expressions of several physics quantities are also derived, and the results show the break-down of the U(1)-symmetry and the deviation from the Jaynes-Cummings model.
