Entanglement of formation and monogamy of multi-party quantum entanglement

Abstract

We provide a sufficient condition for the monogamy inequality of multi-party quantum entanglement of arbitrary dimensions in terms of entanglement of formation. Based on the classical-classical-quantum(ccq) states whose quantum parts are obtained from the two-party reduced density matrices of a three-party quantum state, we show the additivity of the mutual information of the ccq states guarantees the monogamy inequality of the three-party pure state in terms of EoF. After illustrating the result with some examples, we generalize our result of three-party systems into any multi-party systems of arbitrary dimensions.

Multipartite Monogamy of the Entanglement of Formation for three qubit systems

Xian Shi

Characterizing the distribution of entanglement in multi-partite systems is one of the most interesting topics on entanglement theory. Here we consider a linear monogamy relation between all bipartite partitions for a three-qubit system in terms of entanglement of formation (EoF). We also present the upper bound of the sum of all bipartite partitions for a three qubit pure state in terms of concurrence.

Generalization of the entanglement of formation for multi-party systems

A M Wang

We present the generalization of the entanglement of formation for three-party systems in a pure state. For three qubit system we derive out its explicit and closed expression which is a linear combination of the binary entropy functions with various arguments, and these arguments are clearly determined in terms of the components of state vector of three qubits. As a reasonable measure of entanglement, the main behaviors and elementary properties of this generalized entanglement of formation are showed through discussing some important and interesting examples. Moreover, we propose how to extend our definition to a mixed state in according to the familiar idea. Then, we suggest the generalization of the entanglement of formation for multi-party systems which is consistent with the regular definition for two-party systems and our definition for three-party systems.

Entanglement monogamy in three qutrit systems

Qiting Li, Jianlian Cui, Shuhao Wang +1 more

By introducing an arbitrary-dimensional multipartite entanglement measure, which is defined in terms of the reduced density matrices corresponding to all possible two partitions of the entire system, we prove that multipartite entanglement cannot be freely shared among the parties in both n-qubit systems and three-qutrit systems. Furthermore, our result implies that the satisfaction of the entanglement monogamy is related to the number of particles in the quantum system. As an application of three-qutrit monogamy inequality, we give a condition for the separability of a class of two-qutrit mixed states in a 3 ⊗ 3 system.

Monogamy of Quantum Entanglement

Xiao-Lan Zong, Hao-Hao Yin, Wei Song +1 more

Unlike classical correlation, quantum entanglement cannot be freely shared among many parties. This restricted shareability of entanglement among multi-party systems is known as monogamy of entanglement, which is one of the most fundamental properties of entanglement. Here, we summarize recent theoretical progress in the field of monogamy of entanglement. We firstly review the standard CKW-type monogamy inequalities in terms of various entanglement measures. In particular, the squashed entanglement and one-way distillable entanglement are monogamous for arbitrary dimensional systems. We then introduce some generalized version of monogamy inequalities which extend and sharpen the traditional ones. We also consider the dual polygamy inequalities for multi-party systems. Moreover, we present two new definitions to define monogamy of entanglement. Finally, some challenges and future directions for monogamy of entanglement are highlighted.

Non-monogamy of quantum discord and upper bounds for quantum correlation

Xi-Jun Ren, Heng Fan

We consider a monogamy inequality of quantum discord in a pure tripartite state and show that it is equivalent to an inequality between quantum mutual information and entanglement of formation of two parties. Since this inequality does not hold for arbitrary bipartite states, quantum discord can generally be both monogamous and polygamous. We also carry out numerical calculations for some special states. The upper bounds of quantum discord and classical correlation are also discussed and we give physical analysis on the invalidness of a previous conjectured upper bound of quantum correlation. Our results provide new insights for further understanding of distributions of quantum correlations.

Why entanglement of formation is not generally monogamous

F. F. Fanchini, M. C. de Oliveira, L. K. Castelano +1 more

Unlike correlation of classical systems, entanglement of quantum systems cannot be distributed at will: if one system $A$ is maximally entangled with another system $B$, it cannot be entangled at all with a third system $C$. This concept, known as the monogamy of entanglement, is manifest when the entanglement of $A$ with a pair $BC$ can be divided as contributions of the entanglement between $A$ and $B$ and $A$ and $C$, plus a term ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{ABC}$ involving genuine tripartite entanglement and so expected to be always positive. A very important measure in quantum information theory, the entanglement of formation (EOF), fails to satisfy this last requirement. Here we present the reasons for that and show a set of conditions that an arbitrary pure tripartite state must satisfy for the EOF to become a monogamous measure, i.e., for ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{ABC}\ensuremath{\ge}0$. The relation derived is connected to the discrepancy between quantum and classical correlations, ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{ABC}$ being negative whenever the quantum correlation prevails over the classical one. This result is employed to elucidate features of the distribution of entanglement during a dynamical evolution. It also helps to relate all monogamous instances of the EOF to the squashed sntanglement, an entanglement measure that is always monogamous.
