Quantum Consensus: an overview

Marco Marcozzi, Leonardo Mostarda

Published Jan 11, 2021• 11 citations
arXivHTMLPDF

Abstract

We review the literature about reaching agreement in quantum networks, also called quantum consensus. After a brief introduction to the key feature of quantum computing, allowing the reader with no quantum theory background to have minimal tools to understand, we report a formal definition of quantum consensus and the protocols proposed. Proposals are classified according to the quantum feature used to achieve agreement.

Quantum Consensus

Imran Bashir

This chapter covers quantum consensus. Before we explain what quantum consensus is, a basic introduction to quantum computing and its advantages is given to build an understanding about how quantum computer works. Moreover, topics like quantum networks, quantum Internet, quantum cryptography, and quantum blockchains are also covered. Then we discuss quantum consensus and explain what it is, how quantum computing impacts classical consensus in classical and quantum networks, and how quantum computing can enhance existing distributed consensus protocols. We survey what has been done so far in the research community and some open research problems.

Quantum Technology: A Theoretical Overview of the Possibilities

James Daniel Whitfield, Jun Yang, Weishi Wang +2 more

ABSTRACT Quantum technology is full of figurative and literal noise obscuring its promise. In this overview, we will attempt to provide a sober assessment of the promise of quantum technology with a focus on computing. We provide a tour of quantum computing and quantum technology that is aimed to be comprehensible to scientists and engineers without becoming a popular account. The goal is not a comprehensive review nor a superficial introduction but rather to serve as a useful map to navigate the hype, the scientific literature, and upcoming press releases about quantum technology and quantum computing. We have aimed to cite the most recent topical reviews, key results, and guide the reader away from fallacies and towards active discussions in the current quantum computing literature. The goal of this article was to be pedantic and introductory without compromising on the science.

Indefinite Quantum Causality

Fabio Costa, Giulia Rubino, Cyril Branciard +2 more

In recent years, operational approaches to quantum foundations have been developed as a means of understanding the core principles and distinctive features of quantum theory. Such approaches typically view physical processes as sequences of operations, with earlier operations serving as causes of later effects. However, a growing literature is emerging on the possibility of relaxing this assumption and allowing for quantum indefiniteness in the causal order. This development stems from a variety of motivations, both fundamental and applied, including exploring the role of causality in quantum theory, the interplay between quantum theory and general relativity, and higher-order quantum computing. A prominent offshoot of this development is the emergence of indefinite causal order as a feasible resource for quantum information processing. This review provides an overview of the current state of the art in the field, covering the methodology underlying indefinite quantum causality within the so-called "process matrix formalism", outlining key results and experimental implementations, and discussing recent advances.

Introduction to Quantum Deletion Error-Correcting Codes

Manabu Hagiwara

This paper serves as an introductory overview of quantum deletion error-correction codes, a burgeoning field within quantum coding theory. Covering foundational concepts, existing research, and open questions, it aims to be the first accessible resource on the subject. This paper contains basic definitions of terms so that readers can read it regardless of their background. This paper invites readers to explore this primer and take their initial steps into the realm of quantum deletion error-correcting codes research.

A Comprehensive Study of the Basics of Quantum Networks

Shahad A. Hussein, Alharith A. Abdullah

Quantum networks are the latest networks that have the tremendous ability to perform functions that traditional networks cannot perform, like clock synchronization and secure remote computation, and others, as these networks are subject to quantum mechanics, which is considered the power of this network, such as quantum entanglement and the theory of no-cloning and others, where many studies have been presented about the quantum networks in various aspects Such as studies on communication in quantum networks, in addition to studies that include part of the principles of the work of these networks. So this research aims to present a comprehensive study on the basics of quantum networks in order to give an overview of what these networks lie. Thus, this research was able to make a general comparison between classical networks and quantum networks, in addition to presenting the principles of work of quantum networks in a clear and sequential manner.
