Abstract

In this paper, we holographically quantify the entanglement and complexity for mixed states by following the prescription of purification. The bulk theory we consider in this work is a hyperscaling violating solution, characterized by two parameters, hyperscaling violating exponent $\ensuremath{\theta}$ and dynamical exponent $z$. This geometry is due to a nonrelativistic strongly coupled theory with hidden Fermi surfaces. We first compute the holographic analogy of entanglement of purification, denoted as the minimal area of the entanglement wedge cross section and observe the effects of $z$ and $\ensuremath{\theta}$. Then in order to probe the mixed state complexity we compute the mutual complexity for the Banados Teitelboim Zanelli (BTZ) black hole and the hyperscaling violating geometry by incorporating the holographic subregion complexity conjecture. We carry this out for two disjoint subsystems separated by a distance and also when the subsystems are adjacent with subsystems making up the full system. Furthermore, various aspects of holographic entanglement entropy such as the entanglement Smarr relation, the Fisher information metric, and the butterfly velocity have also been discussed.

Various Aspects of Holographic Entanglement Entropy and Mutual Information

Jarkko Järvelä

Entanglement entropy is a proposal to quantify quantum entanglement of two disjoint regions in a pure system. It is a relatively new topic and is developing rapidly. The current main motives to study it are its applications to studying quantum gravity, thermalization and phase transitions in condensed matter systems. Mutual information is a related quantity and it can be used to measure the amount of information two disjoint regions share. The purpose of this thesis is to give an introduction to the general results of the field without considering specific systems. The two prominent approaches used are two-dimensional conformal field theory and the holographic entanglement entropy conjecture. The first approach is to calculate entanglement entropy using conformal field theory, the results of which are known to be exact although technically more difficult to derive and only available for 1+1 dimensional systems. Both static and dynamic systems will be discussed. The results are reproduced and generalized to higher dimensions using holography. As a more recent topic, the holographic approach is used to rederive the entanglement entropy of systems with a Fermi surface using AdS/Vaidya metric with Lifshitz scaling and hyperscaling violation. The final chapter of the thesis discusses mutual information in various static and dynamic cases considered in the previous chapters. For the first time, the evolution of mutual information is calculated in AdS/Vaidya metric with Lifshitz scaling and hyperscaling violation in the critical theta=d-1 case.

Entanglement negativity and minimal entanglement wedge cross sections in holographic theories

Jonah Kudler-Flam, Shinsei Ryu

We calculate logarithmic negativity, a quantum entanglement measure for mixed quantum states, in quantum error-correcting codes and find it to equal the minimal cross sectional area of the entanglement wedge in holographic codes with a quantum correction term equal to the logarithmic negativity between the bulk degrees of freedom on either side of the entanglement wedge cross section. This leads us to conjecture a holographic dual for logarithmic negativity that is related to the area of a cosmic brane with tension in the entanglement wedge plus a quantum correction term. This is closely related to (though distinct from) the holographic proposal for entanglement of purification. We check this relation for various configurations of subregions in ${\mathrm{AdS}}_{3}/{\mathrm{CFT}}_{2}$. These are disjoint intervals at zero temperature, as well as a single interval and adjacent intervals at finite temperature. We also find this prescription to effectively characterize the thermofield double state. We discuss how a deformation of a spherical entangling region complicates calculations and speculate how to generalize to a covariant description.

The connection between holographic entanglement and complexity of purification

Mahdis Ghodrati, Xiao-Mei Kuang, Bin Wang +2 more

Abstract In this work we study how entanglement of purification (EoP) and the new quantity of “complexity of purification” are related to each other using theEP=EWconjecture. First, we consider two strips in the same side of a boundary and study the relationships between the entanglement of purification of this mixed state and the parameters of the system such as dimension, temperature, length of the strips and the distance between them. Next, using the same setup, we introduce two definitions for the complexity of mixed states, complexity of purification (CoP) and the interval volume (VI). We study their connections to other parameters similar to the EoP case. Then, we extend our study to more general examples of BTZ black holes solution in massive gravity, charged black holes and multipartite systems. Finally, we give various interpretations of our results using resource theories such as LOCC and also bit thread picture.

Holographic complexity of boosted black brane and Fisher information

Sourav Karar, Rohit Mishra, Sunandan Gangopadhyay

In this paper, we have studied the holographic subregion complexity for boosted black brane for strip like subsystem. The holographic subregion complexity has been computed for a subsystem chosen along and perpendicular to the boost direction. We have observed that there is an asymmetry in the result due to the boost parameter which can be attributed to the asymmetry in the holographic entanglement entropy. The Fisher information metric and the fidelity susceptibility have also been computed using bulk dual prescriptions. It is observed that the two metrics computed holographically are not related for both the pure black brane as well as the boosted black brane. This is one of the main findings in this paper and the holographic results have been compared with the results available in the quantum information literature where it is known that the two distances are related to each other in general.

Some Aspects of Holographic Entanglement of Purification

Komeil Babaei Velni, M. Reza Mohammadi Mozaffar, Mohammad Hassan Vahidinia

We consider the minimal area of the entanglement wedge cross section (EWCS) in Einstein gravity. In the context of holography, it is proposed that this quantity is dual to different information measures, e.g., entanglement of purification, logarithmic negativity and reflected entropy. Motivated by these proposals, we examine in detail the low and high temperature corrections to this quantity and show that it obeys the area law even in the finite temperature. We also study EWCS in nonrelativistic field theories with nontrivial Lifshitz and hyperscaling violating exponents. The resultant EWCS is an increasing function of the dynamical exponent due to the enhancement of spatial correlations between subregions for larger values of $z$. We find that EWCS is monotonically decreasing as the hyperscaling violating exponent increases. We also obtain this quantity for an entangling region with singular boundary in a three dimensional field theory and find a universal contribution where the coefficient depends on the central charge. Finally, we verify that for higher dimensional singular regions the corresponding EWCS obeys the area law.

Towards entanglement of purification for conformal field theories

Hayato Hirai, Kotaro Tamaoka, Tsuyoshi Yokoya

We argue that the entanglement of purification for 2D holographic conformal field theories (CFT) can be obtained from conformal blocks with internal twist operators. First, we explain our formula from the viewpoint of a tensor network model of holography. Then, we apply it to bipartite mixed states dual to a subregion of AdS|${}_3$| and the static Bañados–Teitelboim–Zanelli black hole geometries. The formula in CFT agrees with the entanglement wedge cross section in the bulk, which has been recently conjectured to be equivalent to the entanglement of purification.
