Abstract

In this article, we investigate the problem of engineering synchronization in non-Markovian quantum systems. First, a time-convoluted linear quantum stochastic differential equation is derived which describes the Heisenberg evolution of a localized quantum system driven by multiple colored noise inputs. Then, we define quantum expectation synchronization in an augmented system consisting of two subsystems. We prove that, for two homogenous subsystems, synchronization can always be synthesized without designing direct Hamiltonian coupling given that the degree of non-Markovianity is below a certain threshold. System parameters are explicitly designed to achieve quantum synchronization. Also, a numerical example is presented to illustrate our results.

Dark Modes in Non-Markovian Linear Quantum Systems

Shikun Zhang, Daoyi Dong, Kun Liu

In this note, we are concerned with dark modes in a class of non-Markovian open quantum systems. Based on a microscopic model, a time-convoluted linear quantum stochastic differential equation and an output equation are derived to describe the system dynamics. The definition of dark modes is given building on the input-output structure of the system. Then, we present a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of dark modes. Also, the problem of dark mode synthesis via Hamiltonian engineering is constructively solved and an example is presented to illustrate our results.

Inverse engineering control in open quantum systems

Jun Jing, Lian-Ao Wu, M. S. Sarandy +1 more

We propose a scheme for inverse engineering control in open quantum systems. Starting from an undetermined time evolution operator, a time-dependent Hamiltonian is derived in order to guide the system to attain an arbitrary target state at a predefined time. We calculate the fidelity of our inverse engineering control protocol in the presence of the noise with respect to the stochastic fluctuation of the linear parameters of the Hamiltonian during the time evolution. For a special family of Hamiltonians for two-level systems, we show that the control evolution of the system under noise can be categorized into two standard decohering processes: dephasing and depolarization, for both Markovian and non-Markovian conditions. In particular, we illustrate our formalism by analyzing the robustness of the engineered target state against errors. Moreover, we discuss the generalization of the inverse protocol for higher-dimensional systems.

Quantum non-Markovianity induced by classical stochastic noise

José Inácio da Costa Filho

One of the main goals of the theory of open quantum systems is to devise methods which help preserve the quantum properties of a system interacting with its environment. One possible pathway to achieve this goal is to use non-Markovian reservoirs, characterized by information backflows and revivals of certain quantum properties. These reservoirs usually require advanced engineering techniques, which may turn their implementation impractical. In this dissertation we propose an alternative technique: the injection of a classical colored noise, which induces the desired quantum non-Markovianity.In order to do that, we investigate the dynamics of a quantum system interacting with its surrounding environment and under the injection of a classical stochastic colored noise.A time-local master equation for the system is derived by using the stochastic wave function formalism and functional calculus.Afterwards, the non-Markovianity of the evolution is detected by using the Andersson, Cresser, Hall and Li measure, which is based on the decay rates of the master equation in canonical Lindblad-like form. Finally, we evaluate the measure for three different colored noises and study the interplay between environment and noise pump necessary to induce quantum non-Markovianity, as well as the energy balance of the system.

Markovian Embeddings of Non-Markovian Quantum Systems: Coupled Stochastic and Quantum Master Equations for Non-Markovian Quantum Systems

Hendra I. Nurdin

Quantum Markov models are employed ubiqui-tously in quantum physics and in quantum information theory due to their relative simplicity and analytical tractability. In particular, these models are known to give accurate approxi-mations for a wide range of quantum optical and meso scopic systems. However, in general, the validity of the Markov approximation entails assumptions regarding properties of the system of interest and its environment, which may not be satisfied or accurate in arbitrary physical systems. Therefore, developing useful modelling tools for general non-Markovian quantum systems for which the Markov approximation is inappropriate or deficient is an undertaking of significant importance. This work considers non-Markovian principal quantum systems that can be embedded in a larger Markovian quantum system with one or more compound baths consisting of an auxiliary quantum system and a quantum white noise field, and derives a set of coupled stochastic and quantum master equations for embedded non-Markovian quantum systems. The case of a purely Hamiltonian coupling between the principal and auxiliary systems as a closed system without coupling to white noises is included as a special case. The results are expected to be of interest for (open-loop and feedback) control of continuous-time non-Markovian systems and studying reduced models for numerical simulation of such systems. They may also shed more light on the general structure of continuous-time non-Markovian quantum systems.

Many-body quantum trajectories of non-Markovian open systems

Jun Jing, Xinyu Zhao, J. Q. You +2 more

A long-standing open problem in the non-Markovian quantum state diffusion (QSD) approach to open quantum systems is to establish the non-Markovian QSD equations for multiple-qubit systems. In this paper, we settle this important question by explicitly constructing a set of exact time-local QSD equations for $N$-qubit systems. Our exact time-local (convolutionless) QSD equations have paved the way towards simulating quantum dynamics of many-body open systems interacting with a common bosonic environment. The applicability of this multiple-qubit stochastic equation is exemplified by numerically solving several quantum open many-body systems concerning quantum coherence dynamics and dynamical control.

Non-Markovian Dynamics of Qubit Systems: Quantum-State Diffusion Equations Versus Master Equations

Yusui Chen, Ting Yu

In this review we discuss recent progress in the theory of open quantum systems based on non-MarkovianNon-Markovian quantum state diffusionQuantum state diffusion equation and master equationsMaster equation. In particular, we show that an exact master equation for an open quantum system consisting of a few qubits can be explicitly constructed by using the corresponding non-Markovian quantum state diffusion equation. The exact master equation arises naturally from the quantum decoherence dynamics of qubit systems collectively interacting with a colored noise. We illustrate our general theoretical formalism by the explicit construction of a three-qubit system coupled to a non-Markovian bosonic environment. This exact qubit master equation accurately characterizes the time evolution of the qubit system in various parameter domains, and paves the way for investigation of the memory effect of an open quantum system in a non-Markovian regime without any approximation.
