Abstract

We consider an open quantum system in [Formula: see text] governed by quasiperiodic Hamiltonian with rationally independent frequencies and under the assumption of Lyapunov–Perron reducibility of the associated Schrödinger equation. We construct the Markovian Master Equation and the resulting CP-divisible evolution in the weak coupling limit regime, generalizing our previous results from the periodic case. The analysis is conducted with the application of projection operator techniques and concluded with some results regarding stability of solutions and existence of quasiperiodic global steady state.

Markovian dynamics under weak periodic coupling

Krzysztof Szczygielski

We examine a completely positive and trace preserving evolution of a finite dimensional open quantum system coupled to a large environment via the periodically modulated interaction Hamiltonian. We derive a corresponding Markovian master equation under the usual assumption of weak coupling using the projection operator techniques in two opposite regimes of very small and very large modulation frequency. Special attention is granted to the case of uniformly (globally) modulated interaction, where some general results concerning the Floquet normal form of a solution and its asymptotic stability are also addressed.

Markovian master equations: a critical study

́Angel Rivas, A. D. K. Plato, Susana F. Huelga +1 more

We derive Markovian master equations for single and interacting harmonic systems in different scenarios, including strong internal coupling. By comparing the dynamics resulting from the corresponding master equations with numerical simulations of the global system's evolution, we delimit their validity regimes and assess the robustness of the assumptions usually made in the process of deriving the reduced Markovian dynamics. The results of these illustrative examples serve to clarify the general properties of other open quantum system scenarios subject to treatment within a Markovian approximation.

Characteristics Analysis and State Transfer for non-Markovian Open Quantum Systems

Shuang Cong, Long-Zhen HU, Fei Yang +1 more

The weak-coupled two-level open quantum system described by non-Markovian Time-convolution-less master equation is investigated in this paper. The cut-off frequency, coupling constant and transition frequency, which impact on the system's decay rate, coherence factor and purity, are investigated. The appropriate parameters used in system simulation experiments are determined by comparing analysis results of different values of parameters for the effects of system performance. The control laws used to transfer the system states are designed on the basis of the Lyapunov stability theorem. Numerical simulation experiments are implemented under the MATLAB environment. The features of the free evolution trajectory of the non-Markovian systems and the states transfer from a pure state to a desired pure state under the action of the proposed control laws are studied, respectively. By comparing the experimental results, the effectiveness of the proposed quantum Lyapunov control method applied to the state transfer in non-Markovian open quantum systems is verified. Meanwhile, the influences of different control parameters and cut-off frequencies on the system performance are analyzed.

Partly invariant steady state of two interacting open quantum systems

József Zsolt Bernád, Juan Mauricio Torres

We investigate two interacting open quantum systems whose time evolutions are governed by Markovian master equations. We show a class of coupled systems whose interaction leaves invariant the steady state of one of the systems, i.e., only one of the reduced steady states is sensitive to the interactions. A detailed proof with the help of the Trotter product formula is presented. We apply this general statement to a few models, one of which is the optomechanical coupling model where an optical cavity is coupled to a small mechanical oscillator.

Lyapunov equation in open quantum systems and non-Hermitian physics

Archak Purkayastha

The continuous-time differential Lyapunov equation is widely used in linear optimal control theory, a branch of mathematics and engineering. In quantum physics, it is known to appear in Markovian descriptions of linear (quadratic Hamiltonian, linear equations of motion) open quantum systems, typically from quantum master equations. Despite this, the Lyapunov equation is seldom considered a fundamental formalism for linear open quantum systems. In this work we aim to change that. We establish the Lyapunov equation as a fundamental and efficient formalism for linear open quantum systems that can go beyond the limitations of various standard quantum master-equation descriptions, while remaining of much less complexity than general exact formalisms. This also provides valuable insights for non-Hermitian quantum physics. In particular, we derive the Lyapunov equation for the most general number-conserving linear system in a lattice of arbitrary dimension and geometry, connected to an arbitrary number of baths at different temperatures and chemical potentials. Three slightly different forms of the Lyapunov equation are derived via an equation-of-motion approach, by making increasing levels of controlled approximations, without reference to any quantum master equation. Then we discuss their relation with quantum master equations, positivity, accuracy, and additivity issues, the possibility of describing dark states, general perturbative solutions in terms of single-particle eigenvectors and eigenvalues of the system, and quantum regression formulas. Our derivation gives a clear understanding of the origin of the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian describing the dynamics and separates it from the effects of quantum and thermal fluctuations. Many of these results would have been hard to obtain via standard quantum master-equation approaches.
