Boundary state bootstrap and asymptotic overlaps in AdS/dCFT

Abstract

Abstract We formulate and close the boundary state bootstrap for factorizing K-matrices in AdS/CFT. We found that there are no boundary degrees of freedom in the boundary bound states, merely the boundary parameters are shifted. We use this family of boundary bound states to describe the D3-D5 system for higher dimensional matrix product states and provide their asymptotic overlap formulas. In doing so we generalize the nesting for overlaps of matrix product states and Bethe states.

Bootstrapping boundaries and branes

Scott Collier, Dalimil Mazáč, Yifan Wang

Abstract The study of conformal boundary conditions for two-dimensional conformal field theories (CFTs) has a long history, ranging from the description of impurities in one-dimensional quantum chains to the formulation of D-branes in string theory. Nevertheless, the landscape of conformal boundaries is largely unknown, including in rational CFTs, where the local operator data is completely determined. We initiate a systematic bootstrap study of conformal boundaries in 2d CFTs by investigating the bootstrap equation that arises from the open-closed consistency condition of the annulus partition function with identical boundaries. We find that this deceivingly simple bootstrap equation, when combined with unitarity, leads to surprisingly strong constraints on admissible boundary states. In particular, we derive universal bounds on the tension (boundary entropy) of stable boundary conditions, which provide a rigorous diagnostic for potential D-brane decays. We also find unique solutions to the bootstrap problem of stable branes in a number of rational CFTs. Along the way, we observe a curious connection between the annulus bootstrap and the sphere packing problem, which is a natural extension of previous work on the modular bootstrap. We also derive bounds on the boundary entropy at large central charge. These potentially have implications for end-of-the-world branes in pure gravity on AdS3.

On exact overlaps of integrable matrix product states: inhomogeneities, twists and dressing formulas

Tamás Gombor, Charlotte Kristjansen, Vasileios Moustakis +1 more

A bstract Invoking a quantum dressing procedure as well as the representation theory of twisted Yangians we derive a number of summation formulas for the overlap between integrable matrix product states and Bethe eigenstates which involve only eigenvalues of fused transfer matrices and which are valid in the presence of inhomogeneities as well as twists. Although the method is general we specialize to the SO(6) spin chain for which integrable matrix product states corresponding to evaluation representations of the twisted Yangian Y + (4) encode the information about one-point functions of the D3-D5 domain wall version of $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 4 SYM. Considering the untwisted and homogeneous limit of our summation formulas we finally fill the last gap in the analytical understanding of the overlap formula for the SO(6) sector of the D3-D5 domain wall system.

Scalar one-point functions and matrix product states of AdS/dCFT

Marius de Leeuw, Charlotte Kristjansen, Γεώργιος Λιναρδόπουλος

We determine in a closed form all scalar one-point functions of the defect CFT dual to the D3–D5 probe brane system with k units of flux which amounts to calculating the overlap between a Bethe eigenstate of the integrable SO(6) spin chain and a certain matrix product state of bond dimension k. In particular, we show that the matrix product state is annihilated by all the parity odd charges of the spin chain which has recently been suggested as the criterion for such a state to correspond to an integrable initial state. Finally, we discuss the properties of the analogous matrix product state for the SO(5) symmetric D3–D7 probe brane set-up.

Exact Overlaps for All Integrable Matrix Product States of Rational Spin Chains

Tamás Gombor

The overlaps between integrable matrix product states (MPSs) and Bethe states are important in both the nonequilibrium statistical physics and the AdS/CFT duality. We present the general MPS overlap formula. The result is a product of a ratio of Gaudin determinants and a prefactor. The Gaudin determinants depend on the spin chain but not on the MPS. The MPS dependent prefactor is given for all integrable MPSs of the gl_{N}, o_{N}, and sp_{N} symmetric spin chains with arbitrary representations.

A non-integrable quench from AdS/dCFT

Marius de Leeuw, Charlotte Kristjansen, Kasper E. Vardinghus

We study the matrix product state which appears as the boundary state of the AdS/dCFT set-up where a probe D7 brane wraps two two-spheres stabilized by fluxes. The matrix product state plays a dual role, on one hand acting as a tool for computing one-point functions in a domain wall version of N=4 SYM and on the other hand acting as the initial state in the study of quantum quenches of the Heisenberg spin chain. We derive a number of selection rules for the overlaps between the matrix product state and the eigenstates of the Heisenberg spin chain and in particular demonstrate that the matrix product state does not fulfil a recently proposed integrability criterion. Accordingly, we find that the overlaps can not be expressed in the usual factorized determinant form. Nevertheless, we derive some exact results for one-point functions of simple operators and present a closed formula for one-point functions of more general operators in the limit of large spin-chain length.
