Abstract

We propose a non-standard separation of variables for the classical integrable XXX and XXZ spin chains with degenerate twist matrix. We show that for the case of such twist matrices one can interchange the role of classical separating functions A(u) and B(u) and construct a new full set of separated variables, satisfying simpler equation of separation and simpler Abel equations in comparison with the standard separated variables of Sklyanin. We show that for certain cases of the twist matrices the constructed separated variables can be directly identified with action-angle coordinates.

Separation of variables for the classical elliptic reflection equation algebra

T. Skrypnyk

In the present paper we construct separation of variables (SoV) for all Lax-integrable systems, two by two Lax matrix of which enjoys classical reflection equation algebra with the elliptic r−s matrices. We show that, similar to the cases of SoV for the classical XYZ and XXZ models [1], [2], the constructed SoV admits two types of momenta, which are important in the quantum case [1], [2]. We consider two examples of such the integrable hamiltonian systems governed by the simplest Poisson brackets connected with classical reflection equation algebra with the elliptic r−s matrices. They are the classical Sklyanin algebra and its four-dimensional extension which provide a quadratic structure for the classical Steklov top. We explicitly construct the variables of separation, Abel equations and reconstruction formulae for the corresponding integrable models.

Classical functional Bethe ansatz for SL(N): Separation of variables for the magnetic chain

D. R. D. Scott

It is desirable for one to be able to construct separation variables for systems with SL(N) R matrices or Lax pairs. This article relates and extends the two known methods of construction. The Sklyanin’s functional Bethe ansatz (FBA) [Commun. Math. Phys. 150, 181–191 (1992)] was previously only known for SL(2) and SL(3) (and associated) R matrices. The algebraic geometric method of Adams, Harnad, and Hurtubise [Commun. Math. Phys. 155, 385–413 (1993)] has been shown to work for SL(N) but up until now only for linear Poisson brackets. In this article Sklyanin’s program is advanced by giving the FBA for certain systems with SL(N) R matrices. This is achieved by constructing rational functions 𝒜(u) and ℬ(u) of the matrix elements of T(u), so that, in the generic case, the zeros xi of ℬ(u) are the separation coordinates and the Pi=𝒜(xi) provide their conjugate momenta. It is shown that the separation variables thus defined are the same as those given (as the simultaneous solutions of several equations in two variables) by the other method. The crucial calculation of Adams et al. of the commutation relations is also adapted to the case of quadratic Poisson brackets. The method is illustrated with the magnetic chain and the Gaudin model, and its wider applicability is discussed. No knowledge of algebraic geometry is required.

Separation of variables for nondiagonalizable models: XXX spin chain with twisted boundary conditions

Juan Miguel Nieto García

We study the Heisenberg XXX spin chain with twisted periodic boundary conditions with a defective twist matrix. Using quantum separation of variables, we show that the generalized eigenvectors of this system can be characterized in terms of a modified TQ equation that we have named the “Jordanian TQ equation.” We also show that the wave function in the separated basis is only separable for true eigenvectors, while the wave function for generalized eigenvectors of higher rank is given instead by a sum over weak compositions.

New construction of eigenstates and separation of variables for SU(N) quantum spin chains

Nikolay Gromov, Fedor Levkovich-Maslyuk, Grigory Sizov

We conjecture a new way to construct eigenstates of integrable XXX quantum spin chains with SU(N) symmetry. The states are built by repeatedly acting on the vacuum with a single operator B good(u) evaluated at the Bethe roots. Our proposal serves as a compact alternative to the usual nested algebraic Bethe ansatz. Furthermore, the roots of this operator give the separated variables of the model, explicitly generalizing Sklyanin’s approach to the SU(N) case. We present many tests of the conjecture and prove it in several special cases. We focus on rational spin chains with fundamental representation at each site, but expect many of the results to be valid more generally.

Correlation functions by separation of variables: the XXX spin chain

Giuliano Niccoli, Hao Pei, V. Terras

We explain how to compute correlation functions at zero temperature within the framework of the quantum version of the Separation of Variables (SoV) in the case of a simple model: the XXX Heisenberg chain of spin 1/2 with twisted (quasi-periodic) boundary conditions. We first detail all steps of our method in the case of anti-periodic boundary conditions. The model can be solved in the SoV framework by introducing inhomogeneity parameters. The action of local operators on the eigenstates are then naturally expressed in terms of multiple sums over these inhomogeneity parameters. We explain how to transform these sums over inhomogeneity parameters into multiple contour integrals. Evaluating these multiple integrals by the residues of the poles outside the integration contours, we rewrite this action as a sum involving the roots of the Baxter polynomial plus a contribution of the poles at infinity. We show that the contribution of the poles at infinity vanishes in the thermodynamic limit, and that we recover in this limit for the zero-temperature correlation functions the multiple integral representation that had been previously obtained through the study of the periodic case by Bethe Ansatz or through the study of the infinite volume model by the q-vertex operator approach. We finally show that the method can easily be generalized to the case of a more general non-diagonal twist: the corresponding weights of the different terms for the correlation functions in finite volume are then modified, but we recover in the thermodynamic limit the same multiple integral representation than in the periodic or anti-periodic case, hence proving the independence of the thermodynamic limit of the correlation functions with respect to the particular form of the boundary twist.

Algebraic integrability of the classical XXZ spin chain with reflecting boundary conditions

Gus Schrader

In this paper we analyze the classical XXZ spin chain with reflecting boundaries. We exhibit a system of log-canonical coordinates on the phase space generalizing Sklyanin's separation of variables for the periodic XXZ chain, and use these coordinates to construct action-angle variables for the system. We also integrate the flows of the reflection Hamiltonians explicitly in terms of Riemann theta functions. Central to our analysis is the algebraic integrability of the model.
