The Dynamics of Quantum Correlations of Two Qubits in a Common Environment Modeled by Large Random Matrices

Abstract

This paper is a continuation of our previous paper [8], in which we have studied the dynamics of quantum correlations of two qubits embedded each into its own disordered multiconnected environment. We modeled the environment by random matrices of large size allowing for a possibility to describe meso- and even nanoenvironments. In this paper we also study the dynamics of quantum correlations of two qubits but embedded into a common environment which we also model by random matrices of large size. We obtain the large size limit of the reduced density matrix of two qubits. We then use an analog of the Bogolyubov-van Hove (also known as the Born-Markov) approximation of the theory of open systems and statistical mechanics. The approximation does not imply in general the Markovian evolution in our model but allows for sufficiently detailed analysis both analytical and numerical of the evolution of several widely used quantifiers of quantum correlation, mainly entanglement. We find a number of new patterns of qubits dynamics comparing with the case of independent environments studied in [8] and displaying the role of dynamical (indirect, via the environment) correlations in the enhancing and diversification of qubit evolution. Our results, (announced in [9]), can be viewed as a manifestation of the universality of certain properties of the decoherent qubit evolution which have been found previously in various exact and approximate versions of two-qubit models with macroscopic bosonic environment.

Dynamics of two qubits in common environment

E. N. Bratus’, Leonid Andreevich Pastur

We consider the entanglement evolution of two qubits embedded into disordered multiconnected environment. We model the environment and its interaction with qubits by large random matrices allowing for a possibility to describe environments of meso- and even nanosize. We obtain general formulas for the time dependent reduced density matrix of the qubits corresponding to several cases of the qubit-environment interaction and initial condition. We then work out an analog of the Born–Markov approximation to find the evolution of the widely used entanglement quantifiers: the concurrence, the negativity and the quantum discord. We show that even in this approximation the time evolution of the reduced density matrix can be non-Markovian, thereby describing certain memory effects due to the backaction of the environment on qubits. In particular, we find the vanishing of the entanglement (Entanglement Sudden Death) at finite moments and its revivals (Entanglement Sudden Birth). Our results, partly known and partly new, can be viewed as a manifestation of the universality of certain properties of decoherent qubit evolution which have been found previously in various versions of bosonic macroscopic environment.

Quantum dynamics of two-spin-qubit systems

Văn Hiếu Nguyễn

The aim of this topical review is a systematic and concise presentation of the results of a series of theoretical works on the quantum dynamics of two-spin-qubit systems towards the elaboration of a physical mechanism of the quantum information transfer between two spin-qubits. For this purpose the main attention is paid to exactly solvable models of two-spin-qubit systems, since the analytical expressions of the elements of their reduced density matrices explicitly exhibit the mutual dependence of the quantum information encoded into the spin-qubits. The treatment of their decoherence due to the interaction with the environment is performed in the Markovian approximation. Rate equations for axially symmetric systems of two coupled spin-qubits non-interacting, as well as interacting, with the environment are exactly solved. It is shown how the solutions of rate equations demonstrate the physical mechanism of the quantum information exchange between the spin-qubits. This mechanism holds also in all two-spin-qubit systems whose rate equations can be solved only by means of numerical calculations. Exact solutions of rate equations for two uncoupled spin-qubits interacting with two separate environments reveal an interesting physical phenomenon in the time evolution of the qubit-qubit entanglement generated by their interaction with the environments: the entanglement sudden death and revival. A two-spin-qubit system with an asymptotically decoherence free subspace was also explicitly constructed. The presented calculations and reasonings can be extended for application to the study of spin-qubit chains or networks.

Decoherence of two-qubit systems: a random matrix description

C Pineda, T Gorin, T H Seligman

We study decoherence of two non-interacting qubits. The environment and its interaction with the qubits are modelled by random matrices. Decoherence, measured in terms of purity, is calculated in linear response approximation. Monte Carlo simulations illustrate the validity of this approximation and of its extension by exponentiation. The results up to this point are also used to study one-qubit decoherence. Purity decay of entangled and product states are qualitatively similar though for the latter case it is slower. Numerical studies for a Bell pair as initial state reveal a one to one correspondence between its decoherence and its internal entanglement decay. For strong and intermediate coupling to the environment this correspondence agrees with the one for Werner states. In the limit of a large environment the evolution induces a unital channel in the two qubits, providing a partial explanation for the above relation.

Non-Markovianity and Quantum Correlations in Qubit-Systems

Laura Mazzola

In this Thesis I discuss the exact dynamics of simple non-Markovian systems. I focus on fundamental questions at the core of non-Markovian theory and investigate the dynamics of quantum correlations under non-Markovian decoherence. \n \nIn the first context I present the connection between two different non-Markovian approaches, and compare two distinct definitions of non-Markovianity. The general aim is to characterize in exemplary cases which part of the environment is responsible for the feedback of information typical of non- Markovian dynamics. I also show how such a feedback of information is not always described by certain types of master equations commonly used to tackle non-Markovian dynamics. \n \nIn the second context I characterize the dynamics of two qubits in a common non-Markovian reservoir, and introduce a new dynamical effect in a wellknown model, i.e., two qubits under depolarizing channels. In the first model the exact solution of the dynamics is found, and the entanglement behavior is extensively studied. The non-Markovianity of the reservoir and reservoirmediated-interaction between the qubits cause non-trivial dynamical features. \n \nThe dynamical interplay between different types of correlations is also investigated. In the second model the study of quantum and classical correlations demonstrates the existence of a new effect: the sudden transition between classical and quantum decoherence. This phenomenon involves the complete preservation of the initial quantum correlations for long intervals of time of the order of the relaxation time of the system.
