Abstract

The concept of asymmetric entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting code (asymmetric EAQECC) is introduced in this article. Codes of this type take advantage of the asymmetry in quantum errors since phase-shift errors are more probable than qudit-flip errors. Moreover, they use pre-shared entanglement between encoder and decoder to simplify the theory of quantum error correction and increase the communication capacity. Thus, asymmetric EAQECCs can be constructed from any pair of classical linear codes over an arbitrary field. Their parameters are described and a Gilbert-Varshamov bound is presented. Explicit parameters of asymmetric EAQECCs from BCH codes are computed and examples exceeding the introduced Gilbert-Varshamov bound are shown.

Entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes over arbitrary finite fields

Abstract We prove that the known formulae for computing the optimal number of maximally entangled pairs required for entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) over the binary field hold for codes over arbitrary finite fields as well. We also give a Gilbert–Varshamov bound for EAQECCs and constructions of EAQECCs coming from punctured self-orthogonal linear codes which are valid for any finite field.

General entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes

Todd A. Brun, Igor Devetak, Min-Hsiu Hsieh

Entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) make use of pre-existing entanglement between the sender and receiver to boost the rate of transmission. It is possible to construct an EAQECC from any classical linear code, unlike standard QECCs which can only be constructed from dual-containing codes. Operator quantum error-correcting codes (OQECCs) allow certain errors to be corrected (or prevented) passively, reducing the complexity of the correction procedure. We combine these two extensions of standard quantum error correction into a unified entanglement- assisted quantum error correction formalism. This new scheme, which we call entanglement-assisted operator quantum error correction (EAOQEC), is the most general and powerful quantum error-correcting technique known, retaining the advantages of both entanglement-assistance and passive correction. We present the formalism, show the considerable freedom in constructing EAOQECCs from classical codes, and demonstrate the construction with examples.

Entanglement-assisted quantum codes constructed from primitive quaternary BCH codes

Liangdong Lü, Ruihu Li

The entanglement-assisted (EA) formalism generalizes the standard stabilizer formalism. All quaternary linear codes can be transformed into entanglement-assisted quantum error correcting codes (EAQECCs) under this formalism. In this work, we discuss construction of EAQECCs from Hermitian non-dual containing primitive Bose–Chaudhuri–Hocquenghem (BCH) codes over the Galois field GF(4). By a careful analysis of the cyclotomic cosets contained in the defining set of a given BCH code, we can determine the optimal number of ebits that needed for constructing EAQECC from this BCH code, rather than calculate the optimal number of ebits from its parity check matrix, and derive a formula for the dimension of this BCH code. These results make it possible to specify parameters of the obtained EAQECCs in terms of the design parameters of BCH codes.

Entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) make use of preexisting entanglement between the sender and receiver to boost the rate of transmission. Entanglement-Assisted Quantum Codes From Algebraic Geometry Codes

Francisco Revson F. Pereira, Ruud Pellikaan, Giuliano G. La Guardia +1 more

Quantum error-correcting codes play the role of suppressing noise and decoherence in quantum systems by introducing redundancy. Some strategies can be used to improve the parameters of these codes. For example, entanglement can provide a way for quantum error-correcting codes to achieve higher rates than the one obtained by means of the traditional stabilizer formalism. Such codes are called entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting (EAQEC) codes. In this paper, we utilize algebraic geometry codes to construct several families of EAQEC codes derived from the Euclidean and the Hermitian construction. Three families constructed here consist of codes whose quantum Singleton defect is equal to zero, one, or two. We also construct families of EAQEC codes with an encoding rate exceeding the quantum Gilbert-Varshamov bound. Additionally, asymptotically good towers of linear complementary dual codes are used to obtain asymptotically good families of EAQEC codes consuming maximal entanglement. Furthermore, a simple comparison with the quantum Gilbert-Varshamov bound demonstrates that, by utilizing the proposed construction, it is possible to generate an asymptotically family of EAQEC codes that exceeds this bound.
