Abstract

Abstract We prove that the known formulae for computing the optimal number of maximally entangled pairs required for entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) over the binary field hold for codes over arbitrary finite fields as well. We also give a Gilbert–Varshamov bound for EAQECCs and constructions of EAQECCs coming from punctured self-orthogonal linear codes which are valid for any finite field.

Entanglement-Assisted Quantum Error-Correcting Codes over Local Frobenius Rings

Tania Sidana, Navin Kashyap

In this paper, we provide a framework for constructing entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) from classical additive codes over a finite commutative local Frobenius ring. We give a formula for the minimum number of entanglement qudits required to construct an EAQECC from an additive code over a finite Galois ring. This significantly extends known results for EAQECCs over finite fields.

Asymmetric Entanglement-Assisted Quantum Error-Correcting Codes and BCH Codes

Carlos Galindo, Fernando Hernando, Ryutaroh Matsumoto +1 more

The concept of asymmetric entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting code (asymmetric EAQECC) is introduced in this article. Codes of this type take advantage of the asymmetry in quantum errors since phase-shift errors are more probable than qudit-flip errors. Moreover, they use pre-shared entanglement between encoder and decoder to simplify the theory of quantum error correction and increase the communication capacity. Thus, asymmetric EAQECCs can be constructed from any pair of classical linear codes over an arbitrary field. Their parameters are described and a Gilbert-Varshamov bound is presented. Explicit parameters of asymmetric EAQECCs from BCH codes are computed and examples exceeding the introduced Gilbert-Varshamov bound are shown.

Entanglement-Assisted Concatenated Quantum Codes: Parameters and Asymptotic Performance

Jihao Fan, Wei Cheng, Gaojun Luo +2 more

Entanglement-assisted concatenated quantum codes (EACQCs) are constructed by concatenating two entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs). By selecting the inner and outer component codes carefully, it is able to construct state-of-the-art EACQCs with parameters better than previous quantum codes. In this work, we use almost maximum-distance-separable (MDS) codes and $\hbar$-MDS codes as the outer codes to construct EACQCs. Because the range of code length of almost MDS and $\hbar$-MDS codes is much more free than that of the commonly used MDS codes. We derive several families of new EACQCs with parameters better than the previously best known EAQECCs and standard quantum error-correcting codes (QECCs) of the same length and net transmissions. Moreover, we demonstrate that EACQCs are with maximal entanglement if both the inner and outer component codes are with maximal entanglement. As a result, we construct three new maximal-entanglement EACQCs which have optimal parameters. In addition, we present several new maximal-entanglement EACQCs whose minimum distance is only one less than the minimum distance of the optimal codes. In particular, we propose two new families of asymptotically good maximal-entanglement EACQCs with explicit constructions by using entanglement-assisted quantum algebraic geometry codes as the outer codes. At last, we prove that EACQCs can attain the quantum Gilbert-Varshamov bound for EAQECCs asymptotically.

Optimal Entanglement-Assisted Quantum Codes With Larger Minimum Distance

Wan Jiang, Shixin Zhu, Xiaojing Chen

Entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting code (EAQECC) is a new-type quantum code and can be constructed from arbitrary linear codes by sharing entangled states c in advance. In this letter, we explore a family of entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) with length (q2- 1)/12 from negacyclic codes. Compared with known results in the literatures, our EAQECCs are new and have larger minimum distance.

Bounds on concatenated entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes

Nihar Ranjan Dash, Sanjoy Dutta, R. Srikanth +1 more

Code concatenation combines two or more component codes to design larger codes with greater noise resilience. Introducing entanglement assistance to concatenated codes provides a further advantage in terms of improved error rates and beating certain bounds on codes that would otherwise be unbeatable. First, we derive the general expression for the shared entanglement of a concatenated code and show that the number of ebits can depend on the order of concatenating the component entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs). We further construct families of pairs of EAQECCs such that the number of ebits of the resultant of concatenating the two codes in a given pair is order independent. Second, we derive conditions on code distance under which nonmaximal-entanglement EAQECCs obtained from a classical quaternary Griesmer or Plotkin code saturate the entanglement-assisted (EA) Griesmer or linear EA Plotkin bound, respectively, extending the known result for maximal-entanglement EAQECCs. Furthermore, we present several families of such nonmaximal-entanglement EAQECCs. Third, we derive an EA version of the quantum Griesmer-Rains bound on the number of correctable errors for EAQECCs. Finally, we present families of pairs of EAQECCs such that the violation of the EA Hamming bound by the resultant of concatenating the two codes in a given pair is order dependent.
