Abstract

We introduce a method for the conditional generation of nonclassical states of light in a cavity. We consider two-level atoms traveling along the transverse direction to the cavity axis and show that by conditioning on one of the output measurements nonclassical field states are generated. The two-level atoms are prepared in the ground state and we conditioned them on the events in which they are also detected in the ground state. Nonclassical properties of the cavity mode are identified and characterized. This includes quadrature squeezing, sub-Poissonian photon-number distributions, and negative Wigner functions. We determine the optimal parameter regions where the corresponding nonclassical features are most distinct.

Generation of entangled coherent states in cavity QED and its nonclassicality

Chenchao Hua, Shi-Qing Tang

Cavity quantum electrodynamics is the intersection of quantum physics and microcavity optics research. In this paper, we presented a two-mode cavity coupled to a classical field driven by N three-level atoms to prepare entangled coherent states based on cavity QED. In this scheme, we adopt the interaction between the three-level atoms and the two-mode optical cavity, The initial state of one optical field is an odd-even coherent state, while the initial state of another optical field is a coherent state. After considering the time evolution of the initial states with the system, we obtained the specific form of the time evolution of the quantum states and prepared the entangled coherent state successfully. We discussed and analysed some of the nonclassical properties of the optical field and quantum states, including the second-order correlation function and the Wigner function. The results show that when calculating the second-order correlation function, the photons are found to exhibit a sub-Poisson distribution at some points in time. In addition, when observing the Wigner function of the quantum states evolving with time, it is found that there is a negative part of the Wigner distribution at some moments, which implies that the quantum state exhibits nonclassical properties at these certain moments.

Nonclassical properties of a state generated by a driven dispersive interaction

Naveen Kumar, Arpita Chatterjee

We consider a cavity field state, which is created by the atom-cavity field's interaction in the presence of a driven field. The two-level atom passes through the cavity and is driven by a weak classical field. A photon number dependent Stark shift is induced by the atom's dispersive interaction with the cavity field. When the atom is in excited state $|a\rangle$, the output cavity field thus obtained is taken into consideration. With the help of the state evaluated, we investigate different statistical properties such as photon number distribution, Wigner function, Mandel's $Q$ parameter and squeezing.

Probing nonclassicality in an optically driven cavity with two atomic ensembles

Javid Naikoo, Kishore Thapliyal, Anirban Pathak +1 more

The possibility of observing nonclassical features in a physical system comprised of a cavity with two ensembles of two-level atoms has been investigated by considering different configurations of the ensembles with respect to the node and antinode of the cavity field under the framework of open quantum systems. The study reveals the strong presence of nonclassical characters in the physical system by establishing the existence of many facets of nonclassicality, such as the sub-Poissonian boson statistics and squeezing in single modes, intermodal squeezing, intermodal entanglement, antibunching, and steering. The effect of a number of parameters, characterizing the physical system, on the different aspects of nonclassicality is also investigated. Specifically, it is observed that the depth of the nonclassicality witnessing parameters can be enhanced by externally driving one of the ensembles with an optical field. The work is done in the presence of open system effects, in particular, use is made of Langevin equations along with a suitable perturbative technique.

Nonclassical Light Generation in Quantum Dot Microlasers: Toward Integrated Quantum Photonic Sources

Sahil D. Patel, Frédéric Grillot, Weng W. Chow +4 more

We numerically investigate the generation of nonclassical light in semiconductor micropillar cavities containing quantum dots (QDs), focusing on quadrature squeezing. Using cavity-QED, equations of motion are derived for an inhomogeneously broadened QD distribution that is incoherently excited and subjected to an injected seed laser field. Steady-state solutions are obtained and used to determine the quadrature variances. We identify a narrow parameter regime below the lasing threshold where squeezing emerges in the amplitude quadrature, with variances falling below the vacuum limit.

Nonclassical properties of a deformed atom-cavity field state

Naveen Kumar, Deepak Deepak, Arpita Chatterjee

We analyse here a nonclassical state produced by an atom-cavity field interaction. The two-level atom is passed through the single-mode electromagnetic cavity field. By deforming the field operators and introducing nonlinearity to the classic Jaynes–Cummings model, we explore the system in respect of a nonlinear Hamiltonian. Assuming that the atom is in an excited state and the field is in a coherent state initially, the analytic expression for the state vector of the entire system state vector is obtained. With the help of the derived state vector, we calculate the photon number distribution, Mandel's QM parameter, Wigner function, anti-bunching, squeezing properties and Q function etc.

Nonclassical states of light induced via measurement in a bimodal system

R. Chakrabarti, Sudharsana V. Iyengar, B. Virgin Jenisha

Abstract We investigate generation of nonclassical photon states via conditional measurement process in a two mode coupled waveguide. Interaction of the fields takes place in a waveguide beamsplitter due to the overlap between normal modes supported therein. A quadratic Hamiltonian of two degrees of freedom describes the hopping interaction. An initial two mode squeezed state undergoes a unitary evolution governed by the interaction Hamiltonian for a specified time. Following this the bipartite state is subjected to a projective measurement that detects nth Fock state in one subsystem. The post-measurement excitation rendered in the residual subsystem depends on the prior time of interaction between the modes as well as the interaction strength. The Wigner quasiprobability distribution of an arbitrary post-selection state is computed. Its nonclassicality is examined via the negativity of the Wigner distribution. The sub-Poissonian nature of the photon statistics is revealed by the Mandel parameter. The dynamically generated squeezing is evidenced in the post-measurement state. In the ultrastrong coupling regime the parity even and odd states display markedly different nonclassical properties. The nonclassicality of the post-measurement states obtained here may be controlled by varying the interaction strength and the time span of interaction between the modes.
