Abstract

Channels of satellite communication are usually modeled as Rician fading channels with very large Rician factor or Gaussian channels. Therefore, when a legitimate user is close to an eavesdropping user, the legitimate channel is approximately the same as the eavesdropping channel. The physical layer security technology of traditional terrestrial wireless communication mainly takes advantage of the difference be-tween the legitimate channel and the eaves-dropping channel; thus, it is not suitable for satellite communication. To implement secure communication in similar channels for satellite communications, a secure communication mod-el based on collaboration of the interference relay of the satellite physical layer is proposed. Relay selection and power allocation are further studied to enhance the security performance of the satellite communication system based on the model. The relay selection standard under known instantaneous channel state information (CSI) and statistical CSI conditions is theoreti-cally derived, thereby accomplishing minimiza-tion of the probability of secrecy relay. In addi-tion, the power allocation factor is optimized based on minimization of the secrecy outage probability. Moreover, a power allocation method based on the statistical CSI is present-ed. The secrecy outage probability performance of each relay selection criterion and power al-location scheme are analyzed via a simulation.

Secrecy Outage Analysis of Integrated Satellite-Terrestrial Relay Networks

Xiangshuai Tao, Qingquan Huang, Chunyan Yin +3 more

This paper addresses the secure transmission problem of an integrated satellite-terrestrial relay networks (ISTRN), where multiple malicious eavesdroppers attempt to overhear the confidential signals from the satellite to a terrestrial user. Here, the relay is employed with multiple antenna and the decode-and-forward protocol is used. By supposing that the perfect instantaneous channel state information (CSI) of satellite-relay link and the statistical CSI of relay-user and relay-eavesdropper links are available at the relay, an optimization problem is first formulated to maximize the secrecy rate of the ISTRN. Then, the secure transmission scheme is designed to solve the optimization problem and obtain the closed-form beamforming weight vector. To further insight the secrecy performance of the proposed scheme, we derive the analytical expressions of the secrecy outage probability (SOP) of the considered ISTRN, where the satellite-relay link undergoes the shadowed-Rician fading, and the links of relay to user as well as eavesdroppers undergo the correlated Rayleigh fading. Finally, numerical results are given to confirm the superiority of the proposed scheme and the validity of the SOP analysis.

Artificial noise aided physical layer security for low earth orbit satellite communications

Can Wang

Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications are vulnerable to eavesdropping due to open wireless links. To address this issue, a simplified artificial noise (AN)-aided physical layer security scheme is proposed. A practical system model including a multi-antenna LEO satellite, a single-antenna ground user, and multiple eavesdroppers is established, considering shadowed Rician fading and imperfect channel state information (CSI). The AN is projected into the null space of the legitimate user’s channel to avoid interference, while suppressing eavesdroppers. A fixed power allocation strategy is adopted for easy implementation. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms traditional methods in secrecy rate and secrecy outage probability (SOP) with low computational complexity, making it suitable for resource-constrained LEO satellite systems.

Physical Layer Security of Multiuser Satellite Communication Systems With Channel Estimation Error and Multiple Eavesdroppers

Kefeng Guo, Kang An, Yuzhen Huang +1 more

This paper investigates the physical layer security (PLS) for the transmission of confidential information over satellite communication systems under unified framework. The generalized shadowed-Rician (SR) fading is utilized to model the satellite channel, and multiple legitimate users are served to cooperatively receive the broadcast signal with a cluster of unauthorized eavesdroppers. In particular, the channel estimation error (CEE) is considered for both the legitimate user and eavesdropping links. Based on the practical channel modeling, we derive the closed-form expressions for the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (PSPSC), secrecy outage probability (SOP), and average secrecy capacity (ASC) of the considered satellite communication system in the presence of imperfect channel estimation (ICE), which can provide efficient methods to evaluate the impacts of various propagation parameters on the secrecy performance. In order to obtain further insights into the key parameters on the secrecy performance at high signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs), the asymptotic expressions of the SOP and ASC are also derived. Monte Carlo simulation results are provided to verify the correctness of our performance analysis.

Physical Layer Security Enhancement Techniques for UAV Relay Systems Based on Artificial Noise Assistance

Yunqi Hao, Youyang Xiang, Xianglu Li +4 more

The broadcast nature of wireless channels introduces significant security risks during information transmission. When the eavesdropper is in close proximity to the legitimate receiver, their channel state information (CSI) may be highly correlated or even superior to that of the legitimate channel, rendering traditional power optimization methods ineffective in suppressing eavesdropping rates. To address this issue, this paper proposes an artificial noise (AN)-assisted unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) relay system. By leveraging the UAV relay to inject artificial noise while transmitting signals and dynamically adjusting the power allocation factor based on real-time CSI and the UAV's position, precise interference control over the eavesdropping channel is achieved. This study establishes a fournode communication system comprising a source, relay, legitimate receiver, and eavesdropper, formulating a joint optimization problem aimed at maximizing secrecy capacity. Given the nonconvex nature of the optimization problem, this paper employs slack variables and the successive convex approximation (SCA) method to equivalently transform the original problem into a convex problem. A closed-form analytical solution for the power allocation factor is derived using the staircase water-filling (WF) algorithm. Furthermore, an alternating iterative optimization algorithm based on artificial noise assistance is proposed to achieve global optimization of system parameters. Simulation results demonstrate that, compared to traditional power optimization schemes, the proposed algorithm reduces the eavesdropping capacity and improves the information transmission efficiency, significantly enhancing both system security and transmission performance.
