Abstract

Generating entanglement in a distributed scenario is a fundamental task for implementing the quantum network of the future. We here report a protocol that uses only linear optics for generating Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states with high fidelities in a nearby node configuration. Moreover, we analytically show that the scheme is optimal for certain initial states in providing the highest success probability for sequential protocols. Finally, we give some estimates for the generation rate in a real scenario.

Linear optical protocol for preparation of N-photon Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger state with conventional photon detectors

Yan Xia, Jie Song, He‐Shan Song

We propose a linear optical protocol to generate Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger (GHZ) state of N distant photons with the certain success probability. The proposed setup involves simple linear optical elements, N pairs of the two-photon polarization entangled states, and the conventional photon detectors that only distinguish the vacuum and nonvacuum Fock number states. This makes the protocol more realizable in experiments.

Generation and Distribution of GHZ States in Quantum Networks

Mohammad Ghaderibaneh, Himanshu Gupta, C. R. Ramakrishnan

In quantum networks, multipartite entangled states distributed over the network are useful in implementing and supporting many quantum network applications for communications, sensing, and computing. The focus of our work is to de-velop techniques to efficiently generate distributed Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states, a special class of multipartite entanglement states. Prior works on generating GHZ states have focused on the objective of minimizing the number of maximally entangled (bipartite) pairs (EPs), while ignoring the stochastic nature of quantum processes and assuming uniform network links for generating EPs. In contrast, in our work, we take into consideration the stochastic nature of quantum networks, and focus on maximizing the expected generated rate of the GHZ states under given fidelity constraints. In this context, we develop two efficient generation schemes, viz., Fusion - Retain - only and General Fusion, comprised of optimal or near-optimal sub-steps. Both schemes, at a high-level, first determine a way to “connect” the nodes over which the GHZ state is to distributed, and then, determine a sequence of fusion operations on the EPs created over the connections. Using extensive simulations over a quantum network simulator (NetSquid), we demonstrate the effectiveness of our developed techniques and show that our schemes outperform prior work as well as a simple centralized approach by up to orders of magnitude while generating GHZ states of tolerable fidelity.

Generation and applications of an ultrahigh-fidelity four-photon Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state

Chao Zhang, Yun‐Feng Huang, Chengjie Zhang +4 more

High-quality entangled photon pairs generated via spontaneous parametric down-conversion have made great contributions to the modern quantum information science and the fundamental tests of quantum mechanics. However, the quality of the entangled states decreases sharply when moving from biphoton to multiphoton experiments, mainly due to the lack of interactions between photons. Here, for the first time, we generate a four-photon Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state with a fidelity of 98%, which is even comparable to the best fidelity of biphoton entangled states. Thus, it enables us to demonstrate an ultrahigh-fidelity entanglement swapping-the key ingredient in various quantum information tasks. Our results push the fidelity of multiphoton entanglement generation to a new level and would be useful in some demanding tasks, e.g., we successfully demonstrate the genuine multipartite nonlocality of the observed state in the nonsignaling scenario by violating a novel Hardy-like inequality, which requires very high state-fidelity.

Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state generation among remote nodes

Yonghong Ma, Guo-Hui Yang, Qing-Xia Mu +1 more

A scheme is proposed to generate multiatom entanglement among remote nodes connected by noisy channels. The noisy parameters are independent of the fidelity of the intended maximal entangled state. We show that those nonmaximal entangled states prepared in the present scheme can be used to implement quantum communication. Moreover, the scheme can be generalized to generate entanglement in N quantum nodes.

Exponentially Enhanced Scheme for the Heralded Qudit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger State in Linear Optics

Seungbeom Chin, Junghee Ryu, Yong‐Su Kim

High-dimensional multipartite entanglement plays a crucial role in quantum information science. However, existing schemes for generating such entanglement become complex and costly as the dimension of quantum units increases. In this Letter, we overcome the limitation by proposing a significantly enhanced linear optical heralded scheme that generates the d-level N-partite Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state with single-photon sources and linear operations. Our scheme requires dN photons, which is the minimal required photon number, with substantially improved success probability from previous schemes. It employs linear optical logic gates compatible with any qudit encoding system and can generate generalized GHZ states with installments of beam splitters. With efficient generations of high-dimensional resource states, our work opens avenues for further exploration in high-dimensional quantum information processing.

Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger state generation with linear optical elements

de Lima, Bernardo Bertúlio, Máté Lencsés, Samuraí Brito +1 more

We propose a scheme to probabilistically generate Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger states encoded on the path degree of freedom of three photons. These photons are totally independent from each other, having no direct interaction during the whole evolution of the protocol, which remarkably requires only linear optical devices to work and two extra ancillary photons to mediate the correlation. The efficacy of the method, which has potential application in distributed quantum computation and multiparty quantum communication, is analyzed in comparison with similar proposals reported in the recent literature. We also discuss the main error sources that limit the efficiency of the protocol in a real experiment and some interesting aspects about the mediator photons in connection with the concept of spatial nonlocality.
