Polariton analysis of a four-level atom strongly coupled to a cavity mode

S. Rebić, A. S. Parkins, S. M. Tan

We present a complete analytical solution for a single four-level atom strongly coupled to a cavity field mode and driven by external coherent laser fields. The four-level atomic system consists of a three-level subsystem in an electromagnetically induced transparency configuration, plus an additional atomic level; this system has been predicted to exhibit a photon blockade effect. The solution is presented in terms of polaritons. An effective Hamiltonian obtained by this procedure is analyzed from the viewpoint of an effective two-level system, and the dynamic Stark splitting of dressed states is discussed. The fluorescence spectrum of light exiting the cavity mode is analyzed and relevant transitions identified.

Polariton states of cavity coupled three-level atoms

Guoqing Yang, Bichen Zou, Zheng Tan +1 more

We study a cavity quantum electrodynamics system in which a cavity mode couples simultaneously with two separate transitions of three-level atoms, and show that three polariton states are created in the coupled cavity-atom system. We report the observation of such polariton states in an experiment with cold Rb atoms confined in a cavity. The experimental results agree with theoretical calculations based on a semiclassical analysis. The three-level cavity-atom system may be used for a variety of fundamental studies and practical applications.

Quantum Information Processing in An Array of Fiber Coupled Cavities

Jian Li, Zou Jian, Bin Shao

We consider a fiber coupled cavity array. Each cavity is doped with a single two-level atom. By treating the atom-cavity systems as combined polaritonic qubits, we can transform it into a polaritonic qubit-qubit array in the dispersive regime. We show that the four fiber coupled cavity open chain and ring can both generate the four qubit W state and cluster state, and can both transfer one and two qubit arbitrary states. We also discuss the dynamical behaviors of the four fiber coupled cavity array with unequal couplings.
