Abstract

Abstract In this work we present numerical results for physical quantities in the steady-state obtained after a variety of product-states initial conditions are evolved unitarily, driven by the dynamics of quantum integrable models of the rational (XXX) Richardson–Gaudin family, which includes notably Tavis–Cummings models. The problem of interest here is one where a completely inhomogeneous ensemble of two-level systems (spins-1/2) are coupled to a single bosonic mode. The long-time averaged magnetisation along the z -axis as well as the bosonic occupation are evaluated in the diagonal ensemble by performing the complete sum over the full Hilbert space for small system sizes. These numerically exact results are independent of any particular choice of Hamiltonian and therefore describe general results valid for any member of this class of quantum integrable models built out of the same underlying conserved quantities. The collection of numerical results obtained can be qualitatively understood by a relaxation process for which, at infinitely strong coupling, every initial state will relax to a common state where each spin is in a maximally coherent superposition of its and states, i.e. they are in-plane polarised, and consequently the bosonic mode is also in a maximally coherent superposition of different occupation number states. This bosonic coherence being a feature of a superradiant state, we shall loosely use the term superradiant steady-state to describe it. A finite value of the coupling between the spins and the bosonic mode then leads to a long-time limit steady-state whose properties are qualitatively captured by a simple ‘dynamical’ vision in which the coupling strength plays the role of a time at which this ‘relaxation process’ towards the common strong coupling superradiant steady-state is interrupted.

Quantum dynamics of Gaudin magnets

Abstract Quantum dynamics of many-body systems is a fascinating and significant subject for both theory and experiment. The question of how an isolated many-body system evolves to its steady state after a sudden perturbation or quench still remains challenging. In this paper, using the Bethe ansatz wave function, we study the quantum dynamics of an inhomogeneous Gaudin magnet. We derive explicit analytical expressions for various local dynamic quantities with an arbitrary number of flipped bath spins, such as: the spin distribution function, the spin-spin correlation function, and the Loschmidt echo. We also numerically study the relaxation behavior of these dynamic properties, gaining considerable insight into coherence and entanglement between the central spin and the bath. In particular, we find that the spin-spin correlations relax to their steady value via a nearly logarithmic scaling, whereas the Loschmidt echo shows an exponential relaxation to its steady value. Our results advance the understanding of relaxation dynamics and quantum correlations of long-range interacting models of Gaudin type.

SU(3) Richardson–Gaudin models: three-level systems

Sergio Lerma-Hernández, B. Errea

We present the exact solution of the Richardson–Gaudin models associated with the SU (3) Lie algebra. The derivation is based on a Gaudin algebra valid for any simple Lie algebra in the rational, trigonometric and hyperbolic cases. For the rational case additional cubic integrals of motion are obtained, whose number is added to that of the quadratic ones to match, as required from the integrability condition, the number of quantum degrees of freedom of the model. We discuss different SU (3) physical representations and elucidate the meaning of the parameters entering in the formalism. By considering a bosonic mapping limit of one of the SU (3) copies, we derive new integrable models for three level systems interacting with two bosons. These models include a generalized Tavis–Cummings model for three level atoms interacting with two modes of the quantized electric field.

Higher-spin Richardson-Gaudin model with time-dependent coupling: Exact dynamics

Suvendu Barik, Lieuwe Bakker, Vladimir Gritsev +2 more

We determine the exact asymptotic many-body wavefunction of a spin-$s$ Richardson-Gaudin model with a coupling inversely proportional to time, for time evolution starting from the ground state at $t = 0^+$ and for arbitrary $s$. Contrary to common belief, the resulting wavefunction cannot be derived from the spin-$1/2$ case by merging spins, but instead requires independent treatment for each spin size. The steady state is non-thermal and, in contrast to the spin-$1/2$ case, does not conform to a natural Generalized Gibbs Ensemble. We show that mean-field theory is exact for any product of a finite number of spin operators on different sites. We discuss how these findings can be probed in cavity QED and trapped ion experiments.

Integrability, multifractality, and two-photon dynamics in disordered Tavis-Cummings models

Agnieszka Wierzchucka, Francesco Piazza, Pieter W. Claeys

The Tavis-Cummings model is a paradigmatic central-mode model in which a set of two-level quantum emitters (spins) are coupled to a collective cavity mode. Here we study the eigenstate spectrum, its localization properties, and the effect on dynamics, focusing on the two-excitation sector relevant for nonlinear photonics. These models admit two sources of disorder: in the coupling between the spins and the cavity, and in the energy shifts of the individual spins. While this model was known to be exactly solvable in the limit of a homogeneous coupling and inhomogeneous energy shifts, we establish here the solvability in the opposite limit of a homogeneous energy shift and inhomogeneous coupling, presenting the exact solution and corresponding conserved quantities. We identify three different classes of eigenstates, exhibiting different degrees of multifractality and semilocalization closely tied to the integrable points, and we study their stability to perturbations away from these solvable points. The dynamics of the cavity occupation number away from equilibrium, exhibiting boson bunching and a two-photon blockade, is explicitly related to the localization properties of the eigenstates, and it illustrates how these models support a collective spin description despite the presence of disorder. Eigenvalue-based determinants for scalar products and form factors in Richardson–Gaudin integrable models coupled to a bosonic mode

Pieter W. Claeys, Stijn De Baerdemacker, Mario Van Raemdonck +1 more

Starting from integrable su (2) (quasi-)spin Richardson–Gaudin (RG) XXZ models we derive several properties of integrable spin models coupled to a bosonic mode. We focus on the Dicke–Jaynes–Cummings–Gaudin models and the two-channel ( p + i p )-wave pairing Hamiltonian. The pseudo-deformation of the underlying su (2) algebra is here introduced as a way to obtain these models in the contraction limit of different RG models. This allows for the construction of the full set of conserved charges, the Bethe ansatz state, and the resulting RG equations. For these models an alternative and simpler set of quadratic equations can be found in terms of the eigenvalues of the conserved charges. Furthermore, the recently proposed eigenvalue-based determinant expressions for the overlaps and form factors of local operators are extended to these models, linking the results previously presented for the Dicke–Jaynes–Cummings–Gaudin models with the general results for RG XXZ models.
