Abstract

An algorithm of the tensor renormalization group is proposed based on a randomized algorithm for singular value decomposition. Our algorithm is applicable to a broad range of two-dimensional classical models. In the case of a square lattice, its computational complexity and memory usage are proportional to the fifth and the third power of the bond dimension, respectively, whereas those of the conventional implementation are of the sixth and the fourth power. The oversampling parameter larger than the bond dimension is sufficient to reproduce the same result as full singular value decomposition even at the critical point of the two-dimensional Ising model.

Coarse-graining renormalization by higher-order singular value decomposition

Z. Y. Xie, Jing Chen, Mingpu Qin +3 more

We propose a novel coarse-graining tensor renormalization group method based on the higher-order singular value decomposition. This method provides an accurate but low computational cost technique for studying both classical and quantum lattice models in two or three dimensions. We have demonstrated this method using the Ising model on the square and cubic lattices. By keeping up to 16 bond basis states, we obtain by far the most accurate numerical renormalization group results for the three-dimensional Ising model. We have also applied the method to study the ground state as well as finite temperature properties for the two-dimensional quantum transverse Ising model and obtain the results which are consistent with published data.

Anisotropic tensor renormalization group

Daiki Adachi, Tsuyoshi Okubo, Synge Todo

We propose a different tensor renormalization group algorithm, anisotropic tensor renormalization group (ATRG), for lattice models in arbitrary dimensions. The proposed method shares the same versatility with the higher-order tensor renormalization group (HOTRG) algorithm, i.e., it preserves the lattice topology after the renormalization. In comparison with HOTRG, both the computation cost and the memory footprint of our method are drastically reduced, especially in higher dimensions, by renormalizing tensors in an anisotropic way after the singular value decomposition. We demonstrate the ability of ATRG for the square lattice and the simple cubic lattice Ising models. Although the accuracy of the present method degrades when compared with HOTRG of the same bond dimension, the accuracy with fixed computation time is improved greatly due to the drastic reduction of the computation cost.

Randomized higher-order tensor renormalization group

Katsumasa Nakayama

The higher-order tensor renormalization group (HOTRG) is a fundamental method to calculate the physical quantities by using a tensor network representation. This method is based on the singular value decomposition (SVD) to take the contraction of all indices in the network with an approximation. For the SVD, randomized singular value decomposition (R-SVD) is a powerful method to reduce computational costs of SVD. However, HOTRG with the randomized method is not established. We propose a randomized HOTRG method in a dimension $d$ with the computational cost $O(D^{3d})$ depending on the truncated bond dimension $D$. We also introduce the minimally-decomposed TRG (MDTRG) as the R-HOTRG on the tensor of order $d+1$ with $O(D^{2d + 1})$ and a triad representation of the MDTRG (Triad-MDTRG) with $O(D^{d+3})$. The results from these formulations are consistent with the HOTRG result with the same truncated bond dimension $D$.

Triad second renormalization group

Daisuke Kadoh, Hideaki Oba, Shinji Takeda

Abstract We propose a second renormalization group (SRG) in the triad representation of tensor networks. The SRG method improves two parts of the triad tensor renormalization group, which are the decomposition of intermediate tensors and the preparation of isometries, taking the influence of environment tensors into account. Every fundamental tensor including environment tensor is given as a rank-3 tensor, and the computational cost of the proposed algorithm scales with $$ \mathcal{O} $$ O (χ5) employing the randomized SVD where χ is the bond dimension of tensors. We test this method in the classical Ising model on the two dimensional square lattice, and find that numerical results are obtained in good accuracy for a fixed computational time.

Cost-efficient cutoff method for tensor renormalization group with randomized singular value decomposition

Haruka Yamada, Akira Imakura, Tetsuya Sakurai

Tensor renormalization group (TRG) is a coarse-graining algorithm for approximating the partition function using a tensor network in the field of elementary particle physics.Although the computational cost of TRG can be reduced using a randomized singular value decomposition, its computation time is still large. In this paper, we propose a cost-efficient cutoff method for calculating TRG by truncating small tensor elements.Numerical experiments showed that the proposed method is faster than the conventional one without degrading accuracy.
