Abstract

Schrödinger equation is considered within position-dependent mass formalism with a quasi-oscillator interaction term. Wave functions and energy spectra have been obtained analytically. Thermodynamic properties, information entropy, and uncertainty in coordinate and momentum spaces are calculated. To provide a better physical insight into the solutions, some figures are included.

Exact solutions of position-dependent mass Schrödinger equation with pseudoharmonic oscillator and its thermal properties using extended Nikiforov–Uvarov method

A. N. Ikot, I. B. Okon, U. S. Okorie +8 more

Abstract In this work, we find the exact solution of Schrödinger wave equation for position dependent mass with pseudoharmonic oscillator using extended Nikiforov-Uvarov method. We obtained the energy-eigen equation presented in a closed and compact form and used the result to study both superstatistics and thermodynamic properties by first determining the partition function of the system. The unnormalized wave function was obtained and expressed in terms of Confluent Heun function. Using the resulting energy eigen equation, the numerical computation were computed for varying masses for with fixed physical constant potential parameter λ. The numerical result shows that the bound state energies increase with quantum states but decreases with the dependent mass m(x). The thermodynamics and superstatistics plots are also reported.

Coordinate Transformation and Exact Solutions of Schrödinger Equation with Position-Dependent Effective Mass

Ju Guo-Xing, Cai Chang-Ying, Xiang Yang +1 more

Using the coordinate transformation method, we solve the one-dimensional Schrödinger equation with position-dependent mass. The explicit expressions for the potentials, energy eigenvalues, and eigenfunctions of the systems are given. The eigenfunctions can be expressed in terms of the Jacobi, Hermite, and generalized Laguerre polynomials. All potentials for these solvable systems have an extra term V m , which is produced from the dependence of mass on the position, compared with those for the systems of constant mass. The properties of V m for several mass functions are discussed.

Analytical Solution of Schrödinger Equation of the Harmonic Oscillator System with Position Dependent Mass Using Transformation Method

Tis Sutisna

The Schrodinger equation with position-dependent mass (PDM) becomes one of interesting subjects in the study of quantum systems, because of its wide applications in many physical problems. Meanwhile, harmonic oscillator becomes important model in most physical problems. In this paper, analytical solutions of the PDM Schrodinger equation, i.e. energy eigenvalues En and eigenfunctions , of a one dimensional harmonic oscillator system using transformation method has been studied. The results showed that there was no difference between the energy eigenvalues, En of the harmonic oscillator systems with and without PDM, whereas it is not for the eigenfunctions,  of these two harmonic oscillator systems. This difference was due to the presence of dimensionless mass function  and the changes of x becomes  variable for the eigenfunctions of the harmonic oscillator system with PDM.  Moreover, the differences in the eigenfunctions will affect the dynamical properties of the quantum systems. It can be concluded that the harmonic oscillator system with PDM is the generalization of the harmonic oscillator system with constant mass.

Semiclassical Method to Schrödinger Equation with Position-Dependent Effective Mass

Gang Chen, Pei-cai Xuan, Zidong Chen

In this paper, two novel semiclassical methods including the standard and supersymmetric WKB quantization conditions are suggested to discuss the Schrödinger equation with position-dependent effective mass. From a proper coordinate transformation, the formalism of the Schrödinger equation with position-dependent effective mass is mapped into isospectral one with constant mass and therefore for a given mass distribution and physical potential function the bound state energy spectrum can be determined easily by above method associated with a simple integral formula. It is shown that our method can give the analytical results for some exactly-solvable quantum systems.

q-Deformed Statistics from Position-Dependent Mass Schrödinger Equationa

Jesús Morales Rivas, José Juan Peña Gil, Jesús García‐Ravelo

An algebraic approach is used to obtain the canonical form of the position-dependent mass Schrödinger equation from where a couple of canonical quantum variables, the q-deformed operators for the position xq, and the hermitian linear momentum operator pq are derived. In this q-deformed coordinate space, the commutator remains invariant namely [xq, pq] = iħ. By taking advantage of these q-deformed variables, one gets to a q-deformed exponential function expq(x) as well as its corresponding q-deformed logarithm function lnq(x). From these q-deformed mathematical relations and from the fact that thermodynamic properties such as the internal energy U, entropy S, free energy F, heat capacity C, and others are related to the partition function Z and ln(Z), it is proposed their generalizations in terms of the q-deformed exponential and q-deformed logarithmic functions. As a result, the structure of Legendre transformations between these statistical properties remains invariant. The usefulness of the proposal is exemplified by considering two specific position-dependent mass distributions. In the same way, other possibilities could be used to generalize the statistical properties straightforwardly.
