Semiclassical bounds on the dynamics of two-dimensional interacting disordered fermions

Łukasz Iwanek, Marcin Mierzejewski, Anatoli Polkovnikov +2 more

Using the truncated Wigner approximation (TWA) we study quench dynamics of two-dimensional lattice systems consisting of interacting spinless fermions with potential disorder. First, we demonstrate that the semiclassical dynamics generally relaxes faster than the full quantum dynamics. We obtain this result by comparing the semiclassical dynamics with exact diagonalization and Lanczos propagation of one-dimensional chains. Next, exploiting the TWA capabilities of simulating large lattices, we investigate how the relaxation rates depend on the dimensionality of the studied system. We show that strongly disordered one-dimensional and two-dimensional systems exhibit a transient, logarithmic-in-time relaxation, which was recently established for one-dimensional chains. Such relaxation corresponds to the infamous $1/f$ noise at strong disorder.

Hartree-Fock dynamics for weakly interacting fermions

Niels Benedikter, Marcello Porta, Benjamin Schlein

We review recent results concerning the evolution of fermionic systems. We are interested in the mean field regime, where particles experience many weak collisions. For fermions, the mean field regime is naturally linked with a semiclassical limit. Assuming some regularity of the interaction potential we show that the many body evolution of initial states close to Slater determinants exhibiting the appropriate semiclassical structure can be approximated by the Hartree-Fock equation. Our method provides precise bounds on the rate of the convergence.

Derivation of Hartree-Fock Dynamics and Semiclassical Commutator Estimates for Fermions in a Magnetic Field

Niels Benedikter, Chiara Boccato, Domenico Monaco +1 more

We study the quantum dynamics of a large number of interacting fermionic particles in a constant magnetic field. In a coupled mean-field and semiclassical scaling limit, we show that solutions of the many-body Schrödinger equation converge to solutions of a non-linear Hartree-Fock equation. The central ingredient of the proof are certain semiclassical trace norm estimates of commutators of the position and momentum operators with the one-particle density matrix of the solution of the Hartree-Fock equation. In a first step, we prove their validity for non-interacting initial data in a magnetic field by generalizing a 2020 result of Fournais and Mikkelsen. We then propagate these bounds from the initial data along the Hartree-Fock flow to arbitrary times.
