Abstract

Abstract We study the logarithmic negativity and the moments of the partial transpose in the ground state of a two dimensional massless harmonic square lattice with nearest neighbour interactions for various configurations of adjacent domains. At leading order for large domains, the logarithmic negativity and the logarithm of the ratio between the generic moment of the partial transpose and the moment of the reduced density matrix at the same order satisfy an area law in terms of the length of the curve shared by the adjacent regions. We give numerical evidence that the coefficient of the area law term in these quantities is related to the coefficient of the area law term in the Rényi entropies. Whenever the curve shared by the adjacent domains contains vertices, a subleading logarithmic term occurs in these quantities and the numerical values of the corner function for some pairs of angles are obtained. In the special case of vertices corresponding to explementary angles, we provide numerical evidence that the corner function of the logarithmic negativity is given by the corner function of the Rényi entropy of order 1/2.

A contour for the entanglement negativity of bosonic Gaussian states

Gioele Zambotti, Erik Tonni

We construct a contour function for the logarithmic negativity and the logarithm of the moments of the partial transpose of the reduced density matrix for multimode bosonic Gaussian states of a free lattice model. In one spatial dimension, numerical results are obtained for harmonic chains either in the ground state or at finite temperature, by considering, respectively, either a subsystem made by two adjacent or disjoint blocks on the line or a bipartition of the circle. The contour function of the logarithmic negativity diverges only at the entangling points, while the contour function for the logarithm of the moments of the partial transpose is divergent also at the boundary of the bipartite subsystem, as functions of the position. In a two-dimensional conformal field theory, analytic expressions that describe these divergencies are discussed. In one spatial dimension, we explore the partial derivative of the logarithmic negativity of two adjacent intervals with respect to the logarithm of the harmonic ratio of their lengths while their ratio and the other parameters are kept fixed. Considering the ground state of the harmonic chain on the line and in the massive regime, we report numerical results showing that this quantity displays a monotonically decreasing behaviour.

Entanglement negativity in two-dimensional free lattice models

Viktor Eisler, Zoltán Zimborás

We study the scaling properties of the ground-state entanglement between finite subsystems of infinite two-dimensional free lattice models, as measured by the logarithmic negativity. For adjacent regions with a common boundary, we observe that the negativity follows a strict area law for a lattice of harmonic oscillators, whereas for fermionic hopping models the numerical results indicate a multiplicative logarithmic correction. In this latter case we conjecture a formula for the prefactor of the area-law violating term, which is entirely determined by the geometries of the Fermi surface and the boundary between the subsystems. The conjecture is tested against numerical results and a good agreement is found.

Entanglement entropy scaling in the bilayer Heisenberg spin system

Johannes Helmes, Stefan Weßel

We examine the entanglement properties of the spin-half Heisenberg model on the two-dimensional square-lattice bilayer based on quantum Monte Carlo calculations of the second R\'enyi entanglement entropy. In particular, we extract the dominant area-law contribution to the bipartite entanglement entropy that shows a nonmonotonous behavior upon increasing the interlayer exchange interaction: a local maximum in the area-law coefficient is located at the quantum critical point separating the antiferromagnetically ordered region from the disordered dimer-singlet regime. Furthermore, we consider subleading logarithmic corrections to the R\'enyi entanglement entropy scaling. Employing different subregion shapes, we isolate the logarithmic corner term from the logarithmic contribution due to Goldstone modes that is found to be enhanced in the limit of decoupled layers. At the quantum critical point, we estimate a contribution of $0.016(1)$ due to each ${90}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$ corner. This corner term at the SU(2) quantum critical point deviates from the Gaussian theory value, while it compares well with recent numerical linked cluster calculations on the bilayer model.

Negativity spectrum in 1D gapped phases of matter

Glen Bigan Mbeng, Vincenzo Alba, Pasquale Calabrese

Abstract We investigate the spectrum of the partial transpose (negativity spectrum) of two adjacent regions in gapped one-dimensional models. We show that, in the limit of large regions, the negativity spectrum is entirely reconstructed from the entanglement spectrum of the bipartite system. We exploit this result in the XXZ spin chain, for which the entanglement spectrum is known by means of the corner transfer matrix. We find that the negativity spectrum levels are equally spaced, the spacing being half that in the entanglement spectrum. Moreover, the degeneracy of the spectrum is described by elegant combinatorial formulas, which are related to the counting of integer partitions. We also derive the asymptotic distribution of the negativity spectrum. We provide exact results for the logarithmic negativity and for the moments of the partial transpose. They exhibit unusual scaling corrections in the limit Δ → 1 + with a corrections exponent which is the same as that for the Rényi entropies.

Corner entanglement of a resonating valence bond wavefunction

Giacomo Torlai, Roger G. Melko

We perform a quantum Monte Carlo simulation of the resonating valence bond wavefunction on a two-dimensional square lattice with periodic boundary conditions. Using two replicas of the system, we calculate the second Renyi entropy on a spatial bipartition with a square geometry. Through a finite-size scaling analysis, we extract the logarithmic correction to the area law due to the presence of the sharp corners in the entangling surface. We find that the coefficient of this logarithm is positive with a value of 0.073 for a single $90^{\circ}$ corner.

Entanglement across a cubic interface in 3 + 1 dimensions

Trithep Devakul, Rajiv R. P. Singh

We calculate the area, edge, and corner Renyi entanglement entropies in the ground state of the transverse-field Ising model, on a simple-cubic lattice, by high-field and low-field series expansions. We find that while the area term is positive and the line term is negative as required by strong subadditivity, the corner contributions are positive in three dimensions. Analysis of the series suggests that the expansions converge up to the physical critical point from both sides. The leading area-law Renyi entropies match nicely from the high- and low-field expansions at the critical point, forming a sharp cusp there. We calculate the coefficients of the logarithmic divergence associated with the corner entropy and compare them with conformal field theory results with smooth interfaces and find a striking correspondence.
