Abstract

Abstract Using the ‘Liouville space’ (the space of operators) of the massive Dirac theory, we define mixed-state form factors of U (1) twist fields. We consider mixed states with density matrices diagonal in the asymptotic particle basis. This includes the thermal Gibbs state as well as all generalized Gibbs ensembles of the Dirac theory. When the mixed state is specialized to a thermal Gibbs state, using a Riemann–Hilbert problem and low-temperature expansion, we obtain finite-temperature form factors of U (1) twist fields. We then propose the expression for form factors of U (1) twist fields in general diagonal mixed states. We verify that these form factors satisfy a system of nonlinear functional differential equations, which is derived from the trace definition of mixed-state form factors. At last, under weak analytic conditions on the eigenvalues of the density matrix, we write down the large distance form factor expansions of two-point correlation functions of these twist fields. Using the relation between the Dirac and Ising models, this provides the large-distance expansion of the Rényi entropy (for integer Rényi parameter) in the Ising model in diagonal mixed states.

Form factors in equilibrium and non-equilibrium mixed states of the Ising model

Yixiong Chen, Benjamin Doyon

Using the "Liouville space'' (the space of operators) of the massive Ising model of quantum field theory, there is a natural definition of form factors in any mixed state. These generalize the usual form factors, and are building blocks for mixed-state correlation functions. We study the cases of mixed states that are diagonal in the asymptotic particle basis, and obtain exact expressions for all mixed-state form factors of order and disorder fields. We use novel techniques based on deriving and solving a system of nonlinear functional differential equations. We then write down the full form factor expansion for mixed-state correlation functions of these fields. Under weak analytic conditions on the eigenvalues of the density matrix, this is an exact large-distance expansion. The form factors agree with the known finite-temperature form factors when the mixed state is specialized to a thermal Gibbs ensemble. Our results can be used to analyze correlation functions in generalized Gibbs ensembles (which occur after quantum quenches). Applying this to the density matrix for non-equilibrium steady states with energy flows, we observe that non-equilibrium form factors have branch cuts in rapidity space. We verify that this is in agreement with a non-equilibrium generalization of the KMS relations, and we conjecture that the leading large-distance behavior of order and disorder non-equilibrium correlation functions contains oscillations in the log of the distance between the fields.

Correlation functions of twist fields from Ward identities in the massive Dirac theory

Benjamin Doyon, James Silk

We derive non-linear differential equations for correlation functions of U (1) twist fields in the two-dimensional massive Dirac theory. Primary U (1) twist fields correspond to exponential fields in the sine-Gordon model at the free-fermion point, and it is well-known that their vacuum two-point functions are determined by integrable differential equations. We extend part of this result to more general quantum states (pure or mixed) and to certain descendents, showing that some two-point functions are determined by the sinh-Gordon differential equations whenever there is translation and parity invariance, and the density matrix is the exponential of a bilinear expression in fermions. We use methods involving Ward identities associated to the copy-rotation symmetry in a model with two independent, anti-commuting copies. Such methods were used in the context of the thermally perturbed Ising quantum field theory model. We show that they are applicable to the Dirac theory as well, and we suggest that they are likely to have a much wider applicability to free fermion models in general. Finally, we note that our form-factor study of descendents twist fields combined with a CFT analysis provides a new way of evaluating vacuum expectation values of primary U (1) twist fields: by deriving and solving a recursion relation.

Finite-temperature form factors in the free Majorana theory

Benjamin Doyon

We study the large distance expansion of correlation functions in the free massive Majorana theory at finite temperature, alias the Ising field theory at zero magnetic field on a cylinder. We develop a method that mimics the spectral decomposition, or form factor expansion, of zero-temperature correlation functions, introducing the concept of ‘finite-temperature form factors’. Our techniques are different from those of previous attempts in this subject. We show that an appropriate analytical continuation of finite-temperature form factors gives form factors in the quantization scheme on the circle. We show that finite-temperature form factor expansions are able to reproduce expansions in form factors on the circle. We calculate finite-temperature form factors of non-interacting fields (fields that are local with respect to the fundamental fermion field). We observe that they are given by a mixing of their zero-temperature form factors and of those of other fields of lower scaling dimension. We then calculate finite-temperature form factors of order and disorder fields. For this purpose, we derive the Riemann–Hilbert problem that completely specifies the set of finite-temperature form factors of general twist fields (order and disorder fields and their descendants). This Riemann–Hilbert problem is different from the zero-temperature one, and so are its solutions. Our results agree with the known form factors on the circle of order and disorder fields.

Form factors of composite branch-point twist operators in the sinh-Gordon model on a multi-sheeted Riemann surface: semiclassical limit

Michael Lashkevich, Amir Nesturov

A bstract Quantum sinh-Gordon model in 1 + 1 dimensions is one of the simplest and best-studied massive integrable relativistic quantum field theories. We consider this theory on a multi-sheeted Riemann surfaces with a flat metric, which can be seen as a pile of planes connected to each other along cut lines. The cut lines end at branch points, which are represented by a twist operator $$ {\mathcal{T}}_n $$ T n . Operators of such kind are interesting in the framework of the problem of computing von Neumann and Renyi entanglement entropies in the original model on the plane. The composite branch-point twist operators (CTO) are a natural generalization of the twist operators, obtained by placing a local operator to a branch point by means of a certain limiting procedure. Correlation function in quantum field theory can be, in principle, found by means of the spectral decomposition. It allows one to express them in terms of form factors of local operators, i.e. their matrix elements in the basis of stationary states. In integrable models complete sets of exact form factors of all operators can be found exactly as solutions of a system of bootstrap equations. Nevertheless, identification of these solution to the operators in terms of the basic fields remains problematic. In this work, we develop a technique of computing form factors of a class of CTO determined in terms of the basic field in the semiclassical approximation.

Thermodynamic bootstrap program for integrable QFT’s: form factors and correlation functions at finite energy density

Axel Cortés Cubero, Miłosz Panfil

Abstract We study the form factors of local operators of integrable QFT’s between states with finite energy density. These states arise, for example, at finite temperature, or from a generalized Gibbs ensemble. We generalize Smirnov’s form factor axioms, formulating them for a set of particle/hole excitations on top of the thermodynamic background, instead of the vacuum. We show that exact form factors can be found as minimal solutions of these new axioms. The thermodynamic form factors can be used to construct correlation functions on thermodynamic states. The expression found for the two-point function is similar to the conjectured LeClair-Mussardo formula, but using the new form factors dressed by the thermodynamic background, and with all singularities properly regularized. We study the different infrared asymptotics of the thermal two-point function, and show there generally exist two different regimes, manifesting massive exponential decay, or effectively gapless behavior at long distances, respectively. As an example, we compute the few-excitations form factors of vertex operators for the sinh-Gordon model.

Form factors of twist fields in the lattice Dirac theory

Pavlo Gavrylenko, N. Z. Iorgov, O. Lisovyy

We study U (1) twist fields in a two-dimensional lattice theory of massive Dirac fermions. Factorized formulas for finite-lattice form factors of these fields are derived using elliptic parametrization of the spectral curve of the model, elliptic determinant identities and theta functional interpolation. We also investigate the thermodynamic and infinite-volume scaling limit, where the corresponding expressions reduce to form factors of the exponential fields of the sine-Gordon model at the free-fermion point.
