Evolution equation for quantum coherence

Abstract

The estimation of the decoherence process of an open quantum system is of both theoretical significance and experimental appealing. Practically, the decoherence can be easily estimated if the coherence evolution satisfies some simple relations. We introduce a framework for studying evolution equation of coherence. Based on this framework, we prove a simple factorization relation (FR) for the l1 norm of coherence, and identified the sets of quantum channels for which this FR holds. By using this FR, we further determine condition on the transformation matrix of the quantum channel which can support permanently freezing of the l1 norm of coherence. We finally reveal the universality of this FR by showing that it holds for many other related coherence and quantum correlation measures.

Quantum coherence

Baomin Li, Ming‐Liang Hu, Heng Fan

Quantum coherence is not only a fundamental concept of quantum mechanics, but also an important physical resource for quantum information processing. Along with the formulation of the resource theoretic framework of quantum coherence, the quantification of coherence is still one of the recent research focuses. Quantum coherence is also very fragile, and the environmental noise usually induces a system to decohere. Hence it is also an important subject to make clear the dynamical behavior and to seek a flexible way of preserving quantum coherence of an open quantum system. Besides, there are many potential applications of quantum coherence in quantum many-body system, quantum thermodynamics, quantum biology and other related fields. We review in this paper the resource theoretic framework for quantifying coherence and the relevant quantum coherence measures defined within this framework which includes the relative entropy of coherence, the l1 norm of coherence, the entanglement-based measure of coherence, the convex roof measure of coherence, and the robustness of coherence. We also review the dynamical behaviors of quantum coherence for certain open quantum systems, the coherence generating and breaking power of typical quantum channels, and the freezing phenomenon of quantum coherence. Moreover, we exemplify applications of quantum coherence in Deutsch-Jozsa algorithm, Grover search algorithms, and the study of quantum phase transitions in multipartite systems. We hope that these results may provide not only an overview of the relevant field, but also an outlook of the future research direction of this exciting field.

Evolution equation for geometric quantum correlation measures

Ming‐Liang Hu, Heng Fan

A simple relation is established for the evolution equation of quantum-information-processing protocols such as quantum teleportation, remote state preparation, Bell-inequality violation, and particularly the dynamics of geometric quantum correlation measures. This relation shows that when the system traverses the local quantum channel, various figures of merit of the quantum correlations for different protocols demonstrate a factorization decay behavior for dynamics. We identified the family of quantum states for different kinds of quantum channels under the action of which the relation holds. This relation simplifies the assessment of many quantum tasks.

Frozen Quantum Coherence

Thomas R. Bromley, Marco Cianciaruso, Gerardo Adesso

We analyze under which dynamical conditions the coherence of an open quantum system is totally unaffected by noise. For a single qubit, specific measures of coherence are found to freeze under different conditions, with no general agreement between them. Conversely, for an N-qubit system with even N, we identify universal conditions in terms of initial states and local incoherent channels such that all bona fide distance-based coherence monotones are left invariant during the entire evolution. This finding also provides an insightful physical interpretation for the freezing phenomenon of quantum correlations beyond entanglement. We further obtain analytical results for distance-based measures of coherence in two-qubit states with maximally mixed marginals.

Evolution of quantum coherence of qutrit-qutrit system under correlated depolarizing channels

Dong Yao, Ailing Ji, Guo‐Feng Zhang

In order to study the decoherence process of quantum system and find the ways to delay it, in this paper we investigate the decoherence process under correlated depolarizing channels by calculating the evolution of norm coherence, relative entropy coherence and basis-independent coherence of the three initial states: special initial state, maximum coherent state and isotropic state. From the analytic results, numerical results and evolution images, it can be found that 1) completely correlated channels can suppress decoherence to a greatest extent,. 2) the time point at which maximum decoherence occurs is irrelevant to the degree of correlation, but system’s decoherence evolution behavior depends on it. 3)the correlation of depolarizing channels can reinforce the collective quantum coherence between subsystems, and an inequality relation of basis-independent coherence is proved in this system.

Quantum Chaos and Coherence: Random Parametric Quantum Channels

Apollonas S. Matsoukas-Roubeas, Tomaž Prosen, Adolfo del Campo

The survival probability of an initial Coherent Gibbs State (CGS) is a natural extension of the Spectral Form Factor (SFF) to open quantum systems. To quantify the interplay between quantum chaos and decoherence away from the semi-classical limit, we investigate the relation of this generalized SFF with the corresponding l1 -norm of coherence. As a working example, we introduce Parametric Quantum Channels (PQC), a discrete-time model of unitary evolution mixed with the effects of measurements or transient interactions with an environment. The Energy Dephasing (ED) dynamics arises as a specific case in the Markovian limit. We demonstrate our results in a series of random matrix models.

Comparative investigation of freezing phenomena for quantum coherence and correlations

Lian-Wu Yang, Wei Han, Yun‐Jie Xia

We show that the freezing phenomenon, exhibited by a specific class of two-qubit state under local nondissipative decoherent evolutions, is a common feature of the relative entropy measure of quantum coherence and correlation. All those measurement outcomes, preserve a constant value in the considered noisy channels, but the condition, property and mechanism of the freezing phenomenon for quantum coherence are different from those of the quantum correlation.
