Abstract

Motivated by the interest in non-relativistic quantum mechanics for determining exact solutions to the Schrodinger equation we give two potentials that are conditionally exactly solvable. The two potentials are partner potentials and we obtain that each linearly independent solution of the Schrodinger equation includes two hypergeometric functions. Furthermore we calculate their reflection and transmission amplitudes. Finally we discuss some additional properties of these potentials.

Non-Relativistic Quantum Mechanics

Ravinder Rupchand Puri

This book develops and simplifies the concept of quantum mechanics based on the postulates of quantum mechanics. The text discusses the technique of disentangling the exponential of a sum of operators, closed under the operation of commutation, as the product of exponentials to simplify calculations of harmonic oscillator and angular momentum. Based on its singularity structure, the Schrödinger equation for various continuous potentials is solved in terms of the hypergeometric or the confluent hypergeometric functions. The forms of the potentials for which the one-dimensional Schrödinger equation is exactly solvable are derived in detail. The problem of identifying the states of two-level systems which have no classical analogy is addressed by going beyond Bell-like inequalities and separability. The measures of quantumness of mutual information in two two-level systems is also covered in detail.

SPECTRUM OF THE RELATIVISTIC PARTICLES IN VARIOUS POTENTIALS

Ramazan Koç, MEHMET KOCA

We extend the notion of Dirac oscillator in two dimensions, to construct a set of potentials. These potentials become exactly and quasi-exactly solvable potentials of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics when they are transformed into a Schrödinger-like equation. For the exactly solvable potentials, eigenvalues are calculated and eigenfunctions are given by confluent hypergeometric functions. It is shown that, our formulation also leads to the study of those potentials in the framework of the supersymmetric quantum mechanics.

Exactly Solvable Problems in Quantum Mechanics

Lourdhu Bruno Chandrasekar, Kanagasabapathi Gnanasekar, Marimuthu Karunakaran

Some of the problems in quantum mechanics can be exactly solved without any approximation. Some of the exactly solvable problems are discussed in this chapter. Broadly there are two main approaches to solve such problems. They are (i) based on the solution of the Schrödinger equation and (ii) based on operators. The normalized eigen function, eigen values, and the physical significance of some of the selected problems are discussed.

Exactly Solvable Time-Dependent Problems: Potentials of Monotonously Decreasing Function of Time

Tae Jun Park

We solve the Schrodinger equation analytically for systems whose potentials have a certain time-dependence (which is monotonously decreasing) and general coordinate-dependences.Only a few time-dependent systems have been reported to be analytically solved whose potentials are constant, linear, and quadratic functions of coordinate with arbitrary time-dependences.From a different perspective, we focus on the time-dependent systems whose potentials are monotonously decreasing functions of time with arbitrary coordinate dependences.Time-dependent potential of any coordinate-dependence can be handled analytically by transforming it to a time-independent potential of known solutions if its time-dependence is monotonously decreasing. We do this by a unitary transformation of the wavefunction and variable transformations to change the Schrodinger equation to be time-independent in new variables. These variables are then determined by solving a set of simple differential equations. This way we are able to find and to obtain analytical solutions for time-dependent potentials which we mention above.

Solution of the Schrödinger equation for the time-dependent linear potential

I. Guedes

In this paper I have drawn out the steps to be followed in order to derive the exact Schr\"odinger wave function for a particle in a general one-dimensional time-dependent linear potential. To this end I have used the so-called Lewis and Riesenfeld invariant method, which is based on finding an exact quantum-mechanical invariant in whose eigenstates the exact quantum states are found. In particular, I have obtained the wave functions of a particle in the linear potential well, driven by a monochromatic electric field.

The Scattering and Bound States of the Schrödinger Particle in Generalized Asymmetric Manning-Rosen Type Potential

Ahmet Taş, Soner Alpdoğan, Ali Havare

We solve exactly one-dimensional Schrödinger equation for the generalized asymmetric Manning-Rosen (GAMAR) type potential containing the different types of physical potential that have many application fields in the nonrelativistic quantum mechanics and obtain the solutions in terms of the Gauss hypergeometric functions. Then we determine the solutions for scattering and bound states. By using these states we calculate the reflection and transmission coefficients for scattering states and achieve a correlation that gives the energy eigenvalues for the bound states. In addition to these, we show how the transmission and reflection coefficients depend on the parameters which describe shape of the GAMAR type potential and compare our results with the results obtained in earlier studies.
