Abstract

We introduce the quantum stochastic differential equation (QSDE) approach to exactly analyze the response of quantum systems to a continuous-mode two-photon input. The QSDE description of the two-photon process allows us to integrate the input–output analysis with the quantum network theory, and so the analytical computability of the output state of a general quantum system can be addressed within this framework. We show that the time-domain two-photon output states can be exactly calculated for a large class of quantum systems including passive linear networks, optomechanical oscillators and two-level emitter in waveguide systems. In particular, we propose to utilise the results for the exact simulation of the stimulated emission as well as the study of the scattering of two-mode photon wave packets.

On the response of linear quantum stochastic systems to single-photon inputs and pulse shaping of photon wave packets

Guofeng Zhang, M. R. James

The purpose of this paper is to study the response of linear quantum stochastic systems to continuous mode single photon input fields. Given multi-channel continuous-mode single-photon input fields interacting with a linear quantum optical system which may contain active components, two expressions for the corresponding mean steady state output intensity are derived. In the single channel case, a synthesis theorem is proposed for pulse shaping of single-photon wave packets by all-pass quantum optics networks. Moreover, for the all-pass case, the steady-state states of output fields are derived. Several examples illustrate the main results.

The Dynamical Model of Flying-Qubit Control Systems

Wen-Long Li, Guo‐Feng Zhang, Re-Bing Wu

The control of flying qubits is crucial for the interconnection of quantum information processing units in the future applications. Physically, this class of problems can be modeled by the radiation of optical fields from a standing qubit (natural or artificial atoms). The photon statistics of the output field emitted from a quantum system coupled to multiple waveguides is complicated when the exciton number is not conserved, especially in presence of coherent driving that is crucial for control and optimization. In this paper, we use quantum stochastic differential equation (QSDE) to describe the photon generation process, and derive the dynamical jumps induced by photon emission. Numerical simulations show that this model can be applied to analyze the manipulation process of single qubits.

On the Response of a Two-Level System to Two-Photon Inputs

Z. Y. Dong, Guofeng Zhang, Nina H. Amini

The purpose of this paper is to study the interaction between a two-level system (qubit) and two continuous-mode photons. Two scenarios are investigated: Case 1, how a two-level system changes the pulse shapes of two input photons propagating in a single input channel; and Case 2, how a two-level system responds to two counterpropagating photons, one in each input channel. The steady-state output field states for both cases are derived analytically in both the time and frequency domains. Numerical simulations demonstrate rich and interesting two-photon scattering phenomena induced by a two-level system.

Optimal control equation for quantum stochastic differential equations

Javad Sharifi, Hamidreza Momeni

Interaction of open quantum systems with fundamental noncommutative quantum noises can be described by quantum stochastic differential equations (QSDE). These equations have a key role in quantum network analysis and design, especially for quantum information processing. Hence, in this paper, we derive a Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation for quantum stochastic differential equations. The Bellman optimality principle is developed for open quantum systems. The cost functional of quantum observable to be minimized is considered to be general noncommutative polynomial of quantum operator. Since the method directly deals with QSDE, then it is a useful tool for optimal control of quantum optical networks. In addition, we will exhibit some electro-optical and all-optical feedback control schematics for implementation of quantum control based on QSDEs.

Analysis of Quantum Linear Systems' Response to Multi-photon States

Guo‐Feng Zhang

The purpose of this paper is to present a mathematical framework for analyzing the response of quantum linear systems driven by multi-photon states. Both the factorizable (namely, no correlation among the photons in the channel) and unfactorizable multi-photon states are treated. Pulse information of multi-photon input state is encoded in terms of tensor, and response of quantum linear systems to multi-photon input states is characterized by tensor operations. Analytic forms of output correlation functions and output states are derived. The proposed framework is applicable no matter whether the underlying quantum dynamic system is passive or active. The results presented here generalize those in the single-photon setting studied in (Milburn, 2008) and (Zhang and James, 2013}). Moreover, interesting multi-photon interference phenomena studied in (Sanaka, Resch, and Zeilinger, 2006), (Ou, 2007), and (Bartley, et al., 2012) can be reproduced in the proposed framework

Quantum dynamics of two photons in the coherent feedback system composing of two separated resonators coupling to a waveguide

Guoqing Cai, Xiao-San Ma, Hao Shen +1 more

Quantum coherent feedback based on waveguide quantum electrodynamics plays important roles in quantum devices design and quantum information processing. In this paper, we study the coherent dynamics of the quantum network composed of two separated resonators coupling to a waveguide. Using the dynamical feedback equation in Markovian regime, we obtain the analytical solutions to the output states for the two photons incident from the same or different directions of the waveguide. The two- photon scattering properties are analyzed based on the analytical expressions. It is found that the output states of the two photons can be controlled well by the phase induced by the single photon propagating between the two separated resonators. The results given in this paper are helpful in designing quantum devices at few-photon level.
