Abstract

A protocol is discussed for preparing a spin chain in a generic many-body state in the asymptotic limit of tailored nonunitary dynamics. The dynamics require the spectral resolution of the target state, optimized coherent pulses, engineered dissipation, and feedback. As an example, we discuss the preparation of an entangled antiferromagnetic state, and argue that the procedure can be applied to chains of trapped ions or Rydberg atoms.

Dissipative ground-state preparation of a spin chain by a structured environment

Cecilia Cormick, A. Bermúdez, Susana F. Huelga +1 more

We propose a dissipative method to prepare the ground state of the isotropic XY spin Hamiltonian in a transverse field. Our model consists of a spin chain with nearest-neighbor interactions and an additional collective coupling of the spins to a damped harmonic oscillator. The latter provides an effective environment with a Lorentzian spectral density and can be used to drive the chain asymptotically toward its multipartite-entangled ground state at a rate that depends on the degree of non-Markovianity of the evolution. We also present a detailed proposal for the experimental implementation with a chain of trapped ions. The protocol does not require individual addressing, concatenated pulses, or multi-particle jump operators, and is capable of generating the desired target state in small ion chains with very high fidelities.

Quantum state preparation by controlled dissipation in finite time: From classical to quantum controllers

Giacomo Baggio, Francesco Ticozzi, Lorenza Viola

We propose a general scheme for dissipatively preparing arbitrary pure quantum states on a multipartite qubit register in a finite number of basic control blocks. Our “splitting-subspace” approach relies on control resources that are available in a number of scalable quantum technologies (complete unitary control on the target system, an ancillary resettable qubit and controlled-not gates between the target and the ancilla), and can be seen as a “quantum-controller” implementation of a sequence of classical feedback loops. We show how a large degree of flexibility exists in engineering the required conditional operations, and make explicit contact with a stabilization protocol used for dissipative quantum state preparation and entanglement generation in recent experiments with trapped ions.

Dissipative preparation of entangled many-body states with Rydberg atoms

Maryam Roghani, Hendrik Weimer

Abstract We investigate a one-dimensional atomic lattice laser-driven to a Rydberg state, in which engineered dissipation channels lead to entanglement in the many-body system. In particular, we demonstrate the efficient generation of ground states of a frustration-free Hamiltonian, as well as states closely related to W states. We discuss the realization of the required coherent and dissipative terms, and we perform extensive numerical simulations characterizing the fidelity of the state preparation procedure. We identify the optimum parameters for high fidelity entanglement preparation and investigate the scaling with the size of the system.

Steady many-body entanglements in dissipative systems

G. D. de Moraes Neto, Victor Fernandes Teizen, Víctor Montenegro +1 more

We propose a dissipative method for the preparation of many-body steady entangled states in spin and fermionic chains. The scheme is accomplished by means of an engineered set of Lindbladians acting over the eigenmodes of the system, whose spectrum is assumed to be resolvable. We apply this idea to prepare a particular entangled state of a spin chain described by the $XY$ model, emphasizing its generality and experimental feasibility. Our results show that our proposal is capable of achieving high fidelities and purities for a given target state, even when dephasing and thermal dissipative processes are taken into account. Moreover, the method exhibits a remarkable robustness against fluctuations in the model parameters.

Dissipative Preparation of Correlated Quantum States in Dipolar Rydberg Arrays

Mingsheng Tian, Zhen Bi, Thomas Iadecola +1 more

Preparing correlated quantum states is essential for emerging technologies, but remains challenging in many-body systems. Here we propose a dissipative protocol that engineers nonreciprocal, energy-selective transitions to steer dipolar quantum systems toward desired many-body states. This is realized by introducing two types of controllable dissipative auxiliary atoms that act as nonreciprocal excitation and de-excitation channels, respectively, enabling a directional walk in Hilbert space. This approach enables stabilization of states across the many-body spectrum, not limited to the ground state and requiring no \textit{a priori} knowledge of the Hamiltonian. Our approach is designed for neutral atoms in dipolar Rydberg arrays, but applies broadly to setups with similar capabilities, providing a flexible and scalable framework for state preparation in programmable platforms.
