Uncertainty and Certainty Relations for Successive Projective Measurements of a Qubit in Terms of Tsallis' Entropies

Abstract

Abstract We study uncertainty and certainty relations for two successive measurements of two-dimensional observables. Uncertainties in successive measurement are considered within the following two scenarios. In the first scenario, the second measurement is performed on the quantum state generated after the first measurement with completely erased information. In the second scenario, the second measurement is performed on the post-first-measurement state conditioned on the actual measurement outcome. Induced quantum uncertainties are characterized by means of the Tsallis entropies. For two successive projective measurement of a qubit, we obtain minimal and maximal values of related entropic measures of induced uncertainties. Some conclusions found in the second scenario are extended to arbitrary finite dimensionality. In particular, a connection with mutual unbiasedness is emphasized.

Entropic uncertainty relations for measurements assigned to a projective two-design

Alexey E. Rastegin

The current study aims to examine uncertainty relations for quantum measurements assigned to a projective two-design. Complete sets of mutually unbiased bases and symmetric informationally complete measurements are important cases of such measurements. To characterize the amount of uncertainty, we use the Tsallis and Rényi entropies as well as the probabilities of separate outcomes. The obtained results are based on an estimation of the index of coincidence. They improve some uncertainty relations given in the literature.

Uncertainty and Certainty Relations for Successive Projective Measurements of a Qubit in Terms of Tsallis' Entropies

Alexey, Rastegin

Entropic uncertainty relations for successive measurements of canonically conjugate observables

Alexey E. Rastegin

Uncertainties in successive measurements of general canonically conjugate variables are examined. Such operators are approached within a limiting procedure of the Pegg–Barnett type. Dealing with unbounded observables, we should take into account a finiteness of detector resolution. An appropriate reformulation of two scenarios of successive measurements is proposed and motivated. Uncertainties are characterized by means of generalized entropies of both the Rényi and Tsallis types. The Rényi and Tsallis formulations of uncertainty relations are obtained for both the scenarios of successive measurements of canonically conjugate operators. Entropic uncertainty relations for the cases of position and momentum are separately discussed. image

Entropic Uncertainty Relations for Successive Measurements in the Presence of a Minimal Length

Alexey E. Rastegin

We address the generalized uncertainty principle in scenarios of successive measurements. Uncertainties are characterized by means of generalized entropies of both the Rényi and Tsallis types. Here, specific features of measurements of observables with continuous spectra should be taken into account. First, we formulated uncertainty relations in terms of Shannon entropies. Since such relations involve a state-dependent correction term, they generally differ from preparation uncertainty relations. This difference is revealed when the position is measured by the first. In contrast, state-independent uncertainty relations in terms of Rényi and Tsallis entropies are obtained with the same lower bounds as in the preparation scenario. These bounds are explicitly dependent on the acceptance function of apparatuses in momentum measurements. Entropic uncertainty relations with binning are discussed as well.

Entropic Uncertainty Relations for Successive Generalized Measurements

Kyunghyun Baek, Wonmin Son

We derive entropic uncertainty relations for successive generalized measurements by using general descriptions of quantum measurement within two distinctive operational scenarios. In the first scenario, by merging two successive measurements into one we consider successive measurement scheme as a method to perform an overall composite measurement. In the second scenario, on the other hand, we consider it as a method to measure a pair of jointly measurable observables by marginalizing over the distribution obtained in this scheme. In the course of this work, we identify that limits on one’s ability to measure with low uncertainty via this scheme come from intrinsic unsharpness of observables obtained in each scenario. In particular, for the Lüders instrument, disturbance caused by the first measurement to the second one gives rise to the unsharpness at least as much as incompatibility of the observables composing successive measurement.

On Uncertainty Relations and Entanglement Detection with Mutually Unbiased Measurements

Alexey E. Rastegin

We formulate some properties of a set of several mutually unbiased measurements. These properties are used for deriving entropic uncertainty relations. Applications of mutually unbiased measurements in entanglement detection are also revisited. First, we estimate from above the sum of the indices of coincidence for several mutually unbiased measurements. Further, we derive entropic uncertainty relations in terms of the Rényi and Tsallis entropies. Both the state-dependent and state-independent formulations are obtained. Using the two sets of local mutually unbiased measurements, a method of entanglement detection in bipartite finite-dimensional systems may be realized. A certain trade-off between a sensitivity of the scheme and its experimental complexity is discussed.
