Abstract

We study the fidelity susceptibility in an antiferromagnetic spin-1 XXZ chain numerically. By using the density-matrix renormalization group method, the effects of the alternating single-site anisotropy D on fidelity susceptibility are investigated. Its relation with the quantum phase transition is analyzed. It is found that the quantum phase transition from the Haldane spin liquid to periodic Néel spin solid can be well characterized by the fidelity. Finite size scaling of fidelity susceptibility shows a power-law divergence at criticality, which indicates the quantum phase transition is of second order. The results are confirmed by the second derivative of the ground-state energy. We also study the relationship between the entanglement entropy, the Schmidt gap and quantum phase transitions. Conclusions drawn from these quantum information observables agree well with each other.

Quantum phase transition in easy-axis antiferromagnetic Heisenberg spin-1 chain

Jie Ren, Shiqun Zhu

The fidelity and entropy in an easy-axis antiferromagnetic Heisenberg spin-1 chain are studied numerically. By using the method of density-matrix renormalization group, the effects of anisotropy on fidelity and entanglement entropy are investigated. Their relations with quantum phase transition are analyzed. It is found that the quantum phase transition from the Haldane spin liquid to N\'eel spin solid can be well characterized by the fidelity. The phase transition can be hardly detected by the entropy but it can be successfully detected by the first deviation of the entropy.

Fidelity susceptibility and entanglement entropy in S=1 quantum spin chain with three-site interactions

Jie Ren, Gu Li-Ping, You Wen-Long

In the present work, we study the fidelity susceptibility and the entanglement entropy in an antiferromagnetic spin-1 chain with additional next-nearest neighbor interactions and three-site interactions, which are given by H=(J1SiSi+1+ J2SiSi+2)+[J3(SiSi+1)(Si+1Si+2)+ h.c.]. By using the density matrix renormalization group method, the ground-state properties of the system are calculated with very high accuracy. We investigate the effect of the three-site interaction J3 on the fidelity susceptibility numerically, and then analyze its relation with the quantum phase transition (QPT). The fidelity measures the similarity between two states, and the fidelity susceptibility describes the associated changing rate. The QPT is intuitively accompanied by an abrupt change in the structure of the ground-state wave function, so generally a peak of the fidelity susceptibility indicates a QPT and the location of the peak denotes the critical point. For the case of J2=0, a peak of the fidelity susceptibility is found by varying J3, and the height of the peak grows as the system size increases. The location of the peak shifts to a slightly lower J3 up to a particular value as the system size increases. Through a finite size scaling, the critical point J3c=0.111 of the QPT from the Haldane spin liquid to the dimerized phase is identified. We also study the effect of the three-site interaction on the entanglement entropy between the right half part and the rest. It is noted that the peak of the entanglement entropy does not coincide with the critical point. Instead, the critical point is determined by the position at which the first-order derivative of the entanglement entropy takes its minimum, since a second-order QPT is signaled by the first derivative of density matrix element. Moreover, the entanglement entropy disappears when J3=1/6, which corresponds to the size-independent Majumdar-Ghosh point. The positions of quantum critical points extracted from these two quantum information observables agree well with those obtained by the string order parameters, which characterizes the topological order in the Haldane phase. Secondly, we also study the case of J20, and obtain the critical points by both the fidelity susceptibility and the entanglement entropy. Finally we provide a ground-state phase diagram of the system. To sum up, the quantum information observables are effective tools for detecting diverse QPTs in spin-1 models.

Quantum phase transitions in spin-1 XXZ chains with rhombic single-ion anisotropy

Jie Ren, Yimin Wang, Wen‐Long You

We explore numerically the inverse participation ratios in the ground state of one-dimensional spin-1 $XXZ$ chains with the rhombic single-ion anisotropy. By employing the techniques of density-matrix renormalization group, effects of the rhombic single-ion anisotropy on various information theoretical measures are investigated, such as the fidelity susceptibility, the quantum coherence, and the entanglement entropy. Their relations with the quantum phase transitions are also analyzed. The phase transitions from the $Y$-N\'eel phase to the large-${E}_{x}$ or the Haldane phase can be well characterized by the fidelity susceptibility. The second-order derivative of the ground-state energy indicates all the transitions are of second order. We also find that the quantum coherence, the entanglement entropy, the Schmidt gap, and the inverse participation ratios can be used to detect the critical points of quantum phase transitions. Results drawn from these quantum information observables agree well with each other. Finally we provide a ground-state phase diagram as functions of the exchange anisotropy $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}$ and the rhombic single-ion anisotropy $E$.

Scaling properties of fidelity in the spin-1 anisotropic model

Yu-Chin Tzeng, Min-Fong Yang

By means of the density matrix renormalization group technique, the scaling relation of the fidelity susceptibility proposed recently is verified for the spin-one $XXZ$ spin chain with an on-site anisotropic term. Moreover, from the results of both the fidelity susceptibility and the entanglement entropy, the critical points and some of the corresponding critical exponents are determined through a proper finite-size scaling analysis, and these values agree with the findings in the literature. Thus our work provides a numerical support of the use of the fidelity in detecting quantum phase transitions.

Quantum entanglement and critical exponents in one-dimensional spin-1 bond-alternating XXZ chains

Yaoheng Su, Chen Ai-Min, Honglei Wang +1 more

The characterization of the quantum phase transition in a lowdimensional system has attracted a considerable amount of attention in quantum manybody systems. As one of the fundamental models in quantum magnetism, spin-1 models have richer phase diagrams and show more complex physical phenomena. In the spin-1 antiferromagnetic XXZ model, the Haldane phase and the Nel phase are the gapped topologic phases which cannot be characterized by the local order parameters. To characterize the nature in such phases, one has to calculate the non-local long range order parameters. Normally, the non-local order parameter in the topological phase is obtained from the extrapolation of finite-sized system in numerical study. However, it is difficult to extract the critical exponents with such an extrapolated non-local order parameter due to the numerical accuracy. In a recently developed tensor network representation, i.e., the infinite matrix product state (iMPS) algorithm, it was shown that the non-local order can be directly calculated from a very large lattice distance in an infinite-sized system rather than an extrapolated order parameter in a finite-sized system. Therefore, it is worthwhile using this convenient technique to study the non-local orders in the topological phases and characterize the quantum criticalities in the topological quantum phase transitions. In this paper, by utilizing the infinite matrix product state algorithm based on the tensor network representation and infinite time evolving block decimation method, the quantum entanglement, fidelity, and critical exponents of the topological phase transition are investigated in the one-dimensional infinite spin-1 bond-alternating XXZ Heisenberg model. It is found that there is always a local dimerization order existing in the whole parameter range when the bond-alternative strength parameter changes from 0 to 1. Also, due to the effect of the bond-alternating, there appears a quantum phase transition from the long-rang ordering topological Nel phase to the local ordering dimerization phase. The von Neumann entropy, fidelity per lattice site, and order parameters all give the same phase transition point at c = 0.638. To identify the type of quantum phase transition, the central charge c 0.5 is extracted from the ground state von Neumann entropy and the finite correlation length, which indicates that the phase transition belongs to the two-dimensional Ising universality class. Furthermore, it is found that the Nel order and the susceptibility of Nel order have power-law relations to |-c|. From the numerical fitting of the Nel order and its susceptibility, we obtain the characteristic critical exponents ' = 0.236 and ' = 0.838. It indicates that such critical exponents from our method characterize the nature of the quantum phase transition. Our critical exponents from the iMPS method can provide guidance for studying the properties of the phase transition in quantum spin systems.

Entanglement and correlations in a one-dimensional quantum spin- 12 chain with anisotropic power-law long-range interactions

Jie Ren, Wen‐Long You, Xiaoqun Wang

The correlations, entanglement entropy, and fidelity susceptibility are calculated for a one-dimensional spin-1/2 XXZ chain with anisotropic power-law long-range interactions by employing the density matrix renormalization group method. In particular, this long-range interaction is assigned to ferromagnetic for transversal components, while it can be either ferro- or antiferromagnetic for the longitudinal spin component. Two ground-state phase diagrams are established versus the anisotropy of the interactions, which not only changes the phase boundaries of the counterparts with short-range interactions, but also leads to the emergence of exotic phases. We found that the long-range interactions of the $z$ component results in a Wigner crystal phase, whereas the transversal one may break a continuous symmetry, resulting in a continuous symmetry-breaking phase.
