Generating genuine multipartite entanglement via XY-interaction and via projective measurements

Abstract

We have studied the generation of multipartite entangled states for the superconducting phase qubits. The experiments performed in this direction have the capacity to generate several specific multipartite entangled states for three and four qubits. Our studies are also important as we have used a computable measure of genuine multipartite entanglement whereas all previous studies analyzed certain probability amplitudes. As a comparison, we have reviewed the generation of multipartite entangled states via von Neumann projective measurements.

Benchmarking Multipartite Entanglement Generation with Graph States

René Zander, Colin Kai‐Uwe Becker

Abstract As quantum computing technology slowly matures and the number of available qubits on a QPU gradually increases, interest in assessing the capabilities of quantum computing hardware in a scalable manner is growing. One of the key properties for quantum computing is the ability to generate multipartite entangled states. In this study, aspects of benchmarking entanglement generation capabilities of noisy intermediate‐scale quantum (NISQ) devices are discussed based on the preparation of graph states and the verification of entanglement in the prepared states. Thereby, entanglement witnesses that are specifically suited for a scalable experiment design are used. This choice of entanglement witnesses can detect A) bipartite entanglement and B) genuine multipartite entanglement for graph states with constant two measurement settings if the prepared graph state is based on a two‐colorable graph, e.g., a square grid graph or one of its subgraphs. With this, it is experimentally verified that a bipartite entangled state comprising all qubits can be prepared on a 127‐qubit IBM Quantum superconducting QPU, and genuine multipartite entanglement can be detected for states of up to 23 qubits with quantum readout error mitigation.

Genuine multipartite entanglement in three-qubit XY Z Heisenberg systems

S Luna-Hernández

Abstract Some measures of genuine multipartite entanglement in the three-qubit XYZ Heisenberg model are reported for a system that is embedded in a uniform magnetic field. A quantitative characterization of these measures is accomplished to determine the optimal parameters that provide maximal entanglement.

Experimental Detection of Multipartite Entanglement using Witness Operators

Mohamed Bourennane, Manfred Eibl, Christian Kurtsiefer +7 more

We present the experimental detection of genuine multipartite entanglement using entanglement witness operators. To this aim, we introduce a canonical way of constructing and decomposing witness operators so that they can be directly implemented with present technology. We apply this method to three- and four-qubit entangled states of polarized photons, giving experimental evidence that the considered states contain true multipartite entanglement.

Genuine 12-Qubit Entanglement on a Superconducting Quantum Processor

Ming Gong, Ming-Cheng Chen, Yarui Zheng +20 more

We report the preparation and verification of a genuine 12-qubit entanglement in a superconducting processor. The processor that we designed and fabricated has qubits lying on a 1D chain with relaxation times ranging from 29.6 to 54.6 μs. The fidelity of the 12-qubit entanglement was measured to be above 0.5544±0.0025, exceeding the genuine multipartite entanglement threshold by 21 statistical standard deviations. After thermal cycling, the 12-qubit state fidelity was further improved to be above 0.707±0.008. Our entangling circuit to generate linear cluster states is depth invariant in the number of qubits and uses single- and double-qubit gates instead of collective interactions. Our results are a substantial step towards large-scale random circuit sampling and scalable measurement-based quantum computing.

Proving the generation of genuine multipartite entanglement in a single-neutron interferometer experiment

Daniel Erdösi, Marcus Huber, Beatrix C. Hiesmayr +1 more

We present experimental evidence of the generation of distinct types of genuine multipartite entanglement between three degrees of freedom (spin, energy and path) within single-neutron quantum systems. This is achieved via the development of new spin manipulation apparatuses for neutron interferometry and the entanglement is detected via appropriately designed and optimized nonlinear witnesses. Via the applied criteria we reveal even finer properties of the type of the genuine multipartite entanglement that is produced in the experiment. In a subsequent analysis we show the extraordinarily high fidelity of the generated entangled states, proving the outstanding level of controllability of these systems.
