Sorting of spatially incoherent optical vortex modes

Daniel O. Bezerra, João Paulo Amaral, E. J. S. Fonseca +2 more

Coherent optical vortices have promising applications in quantum and classical optical communication. They add new degrees of freedom to code information. In this context, to implement a tool enabling sorting of spatially multiplexed vortex states is fundamental. By other hand, spatially incoherent vortices can be more robust in propagation through noise media, such as turbulent atmosphere or obstacles that block part of the light. Therefore, in this work we propose directly applying a high-resolution sorting scheme to spatially incoherent vortex states.

Influence of random media on orbital angular momentum quantum states of optical vortex beams

Donghui Yang, Zheng-Da Hu, Shuailing Wang +1 more

Photonic orbital angular momentum (OAM) carrying orthogonal modes exhibits fascinating nature for information encoding. Here we focus on the propagation of OAM states in random media to investigate the turbulence-induced OAM degradation. We utilize the quadratic approximation of the phase structure function to derive a global continuous expression of OAM probability at the single-photon level. The expression provides a general insight into the energy transition between signal and crosstalk modes in random media. Especially for each crosstalk mode, our expression is accurate in predicting the second-order energy transition. The effectiveness of our model is validated via experimental data and simulations in various random media. We also reveal the universality of entangled optical vortex beams and obtain an expression of concurrence. It is demonstrated that utilizing high-order optical vortex beams can effectively improve the antijamming ability and enhance the propagation distance of entanglement. Our results provide a universal framework for OAM propagation through different random media.

Preparing quantum vortex states with odd Schrodinger cat states through a coupled waveguide system

唐慧琴, 李绍新, 朱开成 +2 more

A scheme is proposed for preparing a quantum vortex state with a coupled waveguide, in which a single-mode odd cat state with weak intensity and a single-mode coherent state are inserted in the input ports, respectively. The analytical wavefunction of the resulting state in the quadrature space is derived, and the vortex structure of the output state is analyzed. It is found that the obtained states, which may carry a vortex with topological charge index one, are entangled and nonclassical, depending only on the scaled propagation time and the weak intensity of the input odd cat state instead of the displacement parameter of the input coherent state. The phase distribution, however, in the quadrature space, depends on the displacement parameter of the input coherent state
