Consecutive-gap ratio distribution for crossover ensembles

Gerson C. Duarte-Filho, Julian Siegl, John Schliemann +1 more

The study of spectrum statistics, such as the consecutive-gap ratio distribution, has revealed many interesting properties of many-body complex systems. Here we propose a two-parameter surmise expression for such distribution to describe the crossover between the Gaussian orthogonal ensemble (GOE) and Poisson statistics. This crossover is observed in the isotropic Heisenberg spin-$1/2$ chain with disordered local field, exhibiting the Many-Body Localization (MBL) transition. Inspired by the analysis of stability in dynamical systems, this crossover is presented as a flow pattern in the parameter space, with the Poisson statistics being the fixed point of the system, which represents the MBL phase. We also analyze an isotropic Heisenberg spin-$1/2$ chain with disordered local exchange coupling and a zero magnetic field. In this case, the system never achieves the MBL phase because of the spin rotation symmetry. This case is more sensitive to finite-size effects than the previous one, and thus the flow pattern resembles a two-dimensional random walk close to its fixed point. We propose a system of linearized stochastic differential equations to estimate this fixed point. We study the continuous-state Markov process that governs the probability of finding the system close to this fixed point as the disorder strength increases. In addition, we discuss the conditions under which the stationary probability distribution is given by a bivariate normal distribution.

Exact diagonalization study of energy-level statistics in harmonically confined interacting bosons

Mohd Talib, M. A. H. Ahsan

We present an exact diagonalization study of the spectral properties of bosons harmonically confined in a quasi-2D plane and interacting via repulsive Gaussian potential. We consider the lowest 100 energy levels for systems of N=12,16, and 20 bosons in two distinct regimes: (a) when the interaction energy is small compared to the trap energy (moderate interaction) and (b) when the interaction energy is comparable to the trap energy (strong interaction), for the nonrotating (L_{z}=0) as well as the rotating single-vortex state (L_{z}=N). For higher angular momenta, L_{z}=2N and L_{z}=3N, only the strong interaction regime is considered. While the nearest-neighbor spacing distribution (NNSD) P(s) and the ratios of consecutive level spacings distribution P(r) are used to study the short-range correlations, the Dyson-Mehta Δ_{3} statistic and the level number variance Σ^{2}(L) are used to examine the long-range correlations. In the moderate interaction regime, the nonrotating system exhibits Poisson distribution, a characteristic of the regular energy spectra. In the strong interaction regime, the nonrotating system exhibits chaotic behavior signified by GOE distribution. Furthermore, in the rotating case for the single-vortex state (L_{z}=N) in the moderate interaction regime, the system exhibits signatures of weak chaos with some degree of regularity in the energy-level spectra. However, in the strong interaction regime for the rotating case with L_{z}=N, 2N and 3N, the system exhibits strong chaotic behavior. The rotation is found to contribute to enhancement of chaotic behavior in the system for both the moderate and the strong interaction regimes. Our results of NNSD analysis are supported by the analysis of the ratios of consecutive level spacings distribution P(r), which does not involve unfolding.

Perturbed quantum billiards on the hyperbolic plane

Matic Orel

We study the emergence of generic quantum chaos from an arithmetic billiard in the hyperbolic plane. Starting from an arithmetic triangle, we introduce small area-preserving geometric perturbations and compute long consecutive sequences of eigenvalues and eigenstates. The spectral statistics show a perturbation-dependent crossover from Poisson-like arithmetic behaviour to the Gaussian orthogonal ensemble (GOE), with the crossover scale moving to higher wavenumbers as the perturbation decreases. To characterize the nearest-neighbour spacing distribution, we compare the data with Brody and generalized-gamma fits. The generalized-gamma form is used only as a two-parameter diagnostic, allowing the small- and intermediate-spacing structure to vary independently from the large-spacing tail, rather than as a universal crossover law. For the weakest perturbation, we also compare the data with an effective block-GOE model, which diagnoses residual block-like structure deep into the computed spectral range. We complement the spectral analysis with Poincaré-Husimi representations of the eigenstates and quantify phase-space localization using an entropy-based measure. Its distribution is well described by Beta distributions whose width decays as a power law in the wavenumber. Before the spectral crossover, the localization statistics retain memory of the near-arithmetic regime. After the GOE regime is reached, the localization-fluctuation widths collapse onto a common decay law, sigma(Beta) ~ k^{-eta}, with eta approximately 0.37--0.38. These results provide a combined spectral and eigenfunction-level picture of the arithmetic-to-GOE crossover in hyperbolic quantum billiards.
