On some entropy inequalities

Abstract

In this short report, we give some new entropy inequalities based on Rényi relative entropy and the observation made by Berta {\em et al} [arXiv:1403.6102]. These inequalities obtained extends some well-known entropy inequalities. We also obtain a condition under which a tripartite operator becomes a Markov state.

Relating different quantum generalizations of the conditional Rényi entropy

Marco Tomamichel, Mario Berta, Masahito Hayashi

Recently a new quantum generalization of the Rényi divergence and the corresponding conditional Rényi entropies was proposed. Here, we report on a surprising relation between conditional Rényi entropies based on this new generalization and conditional Rényi entropies based on the quantum relative Rényi entropy that was used in previous literature. Our result generalizes the well-known duality relation H(A|B) + H(A|C) = 0 of the conditional von Neumann entropy for tripartite pure states to Rényi entropies of two different kinds. As a direct application, we prove a collection of inequalities that relate different conditional Rényi entropies and derive a new entropic uncertainty relation.

Some applications of matrix inequalities in Rényi entropy

Hadi Reisizadeh, Seyed Mahmoud Manjegani

The R{é}nyi entropy is one of the important information measures that generalizes Shannon's entropy. The quantum R{é}nyi entropy has a fundamental role in quantum information theory, therefore, bounding this quantity is of vital importance. Another important quantity is R{é}nyi relative entropy on which R{é}nyi generalization of the conditional entropy, and mutual information are defined based. Thus, finding lower bound for R{é}nyi relative entropy is our goal in this paper. We use matrix inequalities to prove new bounds on the entropy of type $β$, R{é}nyi entropy.

Proof of a Conjectured 0-Rényi Entropy Inequality With Applications to Multipartite Entanglement

Zhiwei Song, Lin Chen, Yize Sun +1 more

Characterizing the relations among the three bipartite reduced density operators$ \rho _{AB}$,$ \rho _{AC}$and$ \rho _{BC}$of a tripartite mixed state$ \rho _{ABC}$has been an open problem in quantum information. One of such relations has been reduced by [Cadney et al, LAA. 452, 153, 2014] to a conjectured inequality in terms of matrix rank, namely$r(\rho _{AB}) \cdot r( \rho _{AC})\ge r( \rho _{BC})$for any$ \rho _{ABC}$. It is denoted as open problem 41 in the website “Open quantum problems-IQOQI Vienna”. We prove the inequality, and thus establish a complete picture of the four-party linear inequalities in terms of the 0-entropy. Our proof is based on the construction of a novel canonical form of bipartite matrices under local equivalence. We extend our result to inequalities in multipartite systems, as well as the condition when the inequality is saturated.

Monotonicity of a relative Rényi entropy

Rupert L. Frank, Élliott H. Lieb

We show that a recent definition of relative Rényi entropy is monotone under completely positive, trace preserving maps. This proves a recent conjecture of Müller-Lennert et al. The structure of Rényi entropic inequalities

Noah Linden, Milán Mosonyi, Andreas Winter

We investigate the universal inequalities relating the α -Rényi entropies of the marginals of a multi-partite quantum state. This is in analogy to the same question for the Shannon and von Neumann entropies ( α =1), which are known to satisfy several non-trivial inequalities such as strong subadditivity. Somewhat surprisingly, we find for 0< α <1 that the only inequality is non-negativity: in other words, any collection of non-negative numbers assigned to the non-empty subsets of n parties can be arbitrarily well approximated by the α -entropies of the 2 n −1 marginals of a quantum state. For α >1, we show analogously that there are no non-trivial homogeneous (in particular, no linear) inequalities. On the other hand, it is known that there are further, nonlinear and indeed non-homogeneous, inequalities delimiting the α -entropies of a general quantum state. Finally, we also treat the case of Rényi entropies restricted to classical states (i.e. probability distributions), which, in addition to non-negativity, are also subject to monotonicity. For α ≠0,1, we show that this is the only other homogeneous relation.
