Abstract

Characterizing the relations among the three bipartite reduced density operators$ \rho _{AB}$,$ \rho _{AC}$and$ \rho _{BC}$of a tripartite mixed state$ \rho _{ABC}$has been an open problem in quantum information. One of such relations has been reduced by [Cadney et al, LAA. 452, 153, 2014] to a conjectured inequality in terms of matrix rank, namely$r(\rho _{AB}) \cdot r( \rho _{AC})\ge r( \rho _{BC})$for any$ \rho _{ABC}$. It is denoted as open problem 41 in the website “Open quantum problems-IQOQI Vienna”. We prove the inequality, and thus establish a complete picture of the four-party linear inequalities in terms of the 0-entropy. Our proof is based on the construction of a novel canonical form of bipartite matrices under local equivalence. We extend our result to inequalities in multipartite systems, as well as the condition when the inequality is saturated.

Entanglement distillation in terms of a conjectured matrix inequality

Yize Sun, Lin Chen

Entanglement distillation is a basic task in quantum information, and the distillable entanglement of three bipartite reduced density matrices from a tripartite pure state has been studied in [Phys. Rev. A 84, 012325 (2011)]. We extend this result to tripartite mixed states by studying a conjectured matrix inequality, namely $\mathop{\rm rank}(\sum_i R_i \otimes S_i)\leq K \mathop{\rm rank}(\sum_i R_i^T \otimes S_i)$ holds for any bipartite matrix $M=\sum_i R_i \otimes S_i$ and Schmidt rank $K$. We prove that the conjecture holds for $M$ with $K=3$ and some special $M$ with arbitrary $K$.

The distillability of entanglement of bipartite reduced density matrices of a tripartite state

Yize Sun, Lin Chen

Abstract The relation between the distillability of entanglement of three bipartite reduced density matrices from a tripartite pure state has been studied in Hayashi and Chen [2011 Phys. Rev. A 84 012325]. We extend this result to the tripartite mixed state of rank at most three. In particular we show that if the state has two bipartite reduced density operators with rank two, then the third bipartite reduced density operator additionally having non positive partial transpose (non-PPT) is distillable. In contrast, we show that the tripartite PPT state with two reduced density operators of rank two is a three-qubit fully separable state. We obtain these facts by proving a conjectured matrix inequality for the bipartite matrix M with Schmidt rank at most three. This is one of the main results of this paper. We also prove it for some M with arbitrary Schmidt rank.

Compatibility relations between the reduced and global density matrices

Yong‐Jian Han, Y.-S. Zhang, Guang‐Can Guo

It is a hard and important problem to find the criterion of a set of positive-definite matrices which can be written as reduced density operators of a multipartite global quantum state. This problem is closely related to the study of many-body quantum entanglement, which is one of the focuses of current quantum-information theory. We give several results on the necessary compatibility relations between a set of reduced and global density matrices, including (i) compatibility conditions for the one-party reduced density matrices of any $({N}_{A}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{N}_{B})$-dimensional bipartite mixed quantum state, (ii) compatibility conditions for the one-party reduced matrices of any $M$-partite quantum states with the dimension ${N}^{\ensuremath{\bigotimes}M}$, and (iii) compatibility conditions for the two-party reduced density matrixes of $(2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}2)$-dimensional tripartite mixed quantum state.

Tripartite entanglement in chaotic eigenstates

Junjia Zhang, Ramanjit Sohal, Shinsei Ryu

It is now well-established that classical statistical mechanics emerges from the entanglement structure of quantum chaotic systems, as quantified by the (subsystem) eigenstate thermalization hypothesis (ETH). While this statement rests on the well-studied bipartite entanglement of the eigenstates of such systems, recent years have shown that many-body states are often characterized by multipartite entanglement, raising the question: what are the universal multipartite entanglement features of chaotic eigenstates? We answer this question in part by studying a tripartite generalization of the ergodic bipartition ansatz through the lens of two tripartite entanglement probes, the Rényi tripartite multi-entropy and the Rényi reflected entropy. We derive leading-order analytical expressions for the ensemble averages of both quantities using a saddle-point analysis. Beyond these measures, we obtain the average of the Rényi-2 reflected density matrix, $ρ_{AA^*}^{(2)}$,which controls the Rényi-2 reflected entropy. We show that $ρ_{AA^*}^{(2)}$ in a chaotic eigenstate is well-described by this ensemble average which, unlike an ordinary reduced density matrix, takes three qualitatively distinct forms across subsystem-size regimes, which may be viewed as a tripartite generalization of subsystem ETH. We benchmark our analytical predictions against exact diagonalization of the mixed-field Ising model.

Entanglement polygon inequality in qudit systems

Xue Yang, Yan‐Han Yang, Ming‐Xing Luo

Entanglement is an important resource for quantum communication tasks. Most results are focused on qubit entanglement. Our goal in this work is to characterize the multipartite high-dimensional entanglement. We first derive an entanglement polygon inequality for the $q$ concurrence, which manifests the relationship among all the ``one-to-group'' marginal entanglements in any multipartite qudit system. This implies lower and upper bounds for the marginal entanglement of any three-qudit system. We further extend our study to general entanglement distribution inequalities for high-dimensional entanglement in terms of the unified-$(r,s)$ entropy entanglement, including Tsallis entropy, R\'enyi entropy, and von Neumann entropy entanglement as special cases. These results provide insights into characterizing bipartite high-dimensional entanglement in quantum information processing.

Entanglement monogamy via multivariate trace inequalities

Mario Berta, Marco Tomamichel

Entropy is a fundamental concept in quantum information theory that allows to quantify entanglement and investigate its properties, for example its monogamy over multipartite systems. Here, we derive variational formulas for relative entropies based on restricted measurements of multipartite quantum systems. By combining these with multivariate matrix trace inequalities, we recover and sometimes strengthen various existing entanglement monogamy inequalities. In particular, we give direct, matrix-analysis-based proofs for the faithfulness of squashed entanglement by relating it to the relative entropy of entanglement measured with one-way local operations and classical communication, as well as for the faithfulness of conditional entanglement of mutual information by relating it to the separably measured relative entropy of entanglement. We discuss variations of these results using the relative entropy to states with positive partial transpose, and multipartite setups. Our results simplify and generalize previous derivations in the literature that employed operational arguments about the asymptotic achievability of information-theoretic tasks.
