Abstract

We investigate coherent single surface-plasmon transport in a metal nanowire strongly coupled to two colloidal quantum dots. Analytical expressions are obtained for the transmission and reflection coefficients by solving the corresponding eigenvalue equation. Remote entanglement of the wave functions of the two quantum dots can be created if the interdot distance is equal to a multiple half-wavelength of the surface plasmon. Furthermore, by applying classical laser pulses to the quantum dots, the entangled states can be stored in metastable states that are decoupled from the surface plasmons.

Coherent controlling plasmon transport properties in metal nanowire coupled to quantum dot

Mu-Tian Cheng, Yaqin Luo, Peizhen Wang +1 more

We investigate theoretically the transport properties of surface plasmon in a metal nanowire with linear and nonlinear dispersion relations coupled to a quantum dot with three levels in cascaded configuration by full quantum-mechanical approach. The transmission and reflection amplitudes are obtained. The reflection spectrum shows two peaks for the surface plasmon with linear dispersion relation while it can exhibit four peaks when the plasmon has quadratic dispersion relation. The calculations reveal that one can control the plasmon transport properties by adjusting Rabi frequency and circular frequency of a classic optical field.

Entanglement generation among quantum dots and surface plasmons of a metallic nanoring

Misbah Qurban, Manzoor Ikram, Guo-Qin Ge +1 more

We study the systems of two and three quantum dots positioned near a metallic nanoring having a surface plasmon in a particular mode. Interaction of surface plasmon with quantum dots generates entanglement between quantum dots as well as among the incident and reflected modes of the surface plasmons. We show that the maximum amount of entanglement is generated among two initially unentangled quantum dots separated by distance and with interaction parameter , while entanglement among two counter-propagating modes of the surface plasmons can be generated with interdot distance and interaction parameter , where k and μ are the propagation vector and coupling constant, respectively. In case of three quantum dots, the maximum entanglement among the quantum dots is obtained at kd = mπ /3 and Finally, the scheme is straightforwardly generalized to generate quantum entanglement among N quantum dots as well as among two counter-propagating modes of the surface plasmon due to their interactions with quantum dots.

Coherent controlling surface plasmon transport properties in Ag nanowire by classic optical field

Mu-Tian Cheng

Coherent controlling surface plasmon transport in metal nanowire coupled to quantum dot is investigated theoretically by real-space method. In the calculations, the dispersion relation of metal nanowire is supposed to be linear and the quantum dot is a cascaded three-level system. The calculations reveal that whether the surface plasmon is transmitted or reflected by turning off or on the classic field can be controlled. The surface plasmon transmission and reflection spectra can be controlled by adjusting the intensity and the circular frequency of classic optical field even the energy of surface plasmon and quantum dot is not matched. The dissipations affecting on the transport properties are also discussed.

Entanglement of two distant quantum dots with the flip-flop interaction coupled to plasmonic waveguide

Myong-Chol Ko, Nam-Chol Kim, Ju-Song Ryom +2 more

The entanglement of two distant quantum dots coupled to metallic waveguide has been investigated theoretically in the presence of the flip-flop interaction with the analytic solutions of eigenvalue equations of the system. High entanglement of two quantum dots could be achieved by adjusting the direct-coupling strength of two quantum dots, the coupling strength of quantum dots with surface plasmon along metallic waveguide, the group velocity of surface plasmon and detuning. The discussed system with the flip-flop interaction provides us with a rich way to realize the quantum device for quantum information processing, such as quantum communication and quantum computation.

Entanglement optimization in plasmonically coupled quantum dots (Conference Presentation)

Matthew A. Pelton

Although the enhanced near fields produced by plasmon resonances in metal nanoparticles can enable strong local light-matter interactions, the strong dissipation of plasmon resonances would seem to be incompatible with quantum-mechanical phenomena such as entanglement. Counter to this intuition, the dissipation can in fact lead to the production of transient entanglement between the occupation states of dots coupled to a common plasmonic system. Building on previous results that showed entanglement between pairs of dots, we scale to larger systems of two, three, and more closely spaced dots. Moreover, we show that tuning the degree of coupling between each dot and the common plasmonic nanostructure enables entanglement to be created in the case where the entire system begins in its ground state and is excited by a single laser pulse. Entanglement is achieved without the need for the dots to be individually addressable, and without the need for controlled quantum gates, postselective measurements, or engineering of the dissipative environment. Through analytical solutions and numerical simulation of a model Hamiltonian based on a cavity-quantum-electrodynamics approach, we determine system configurations that maximize pairwise entanglement among the quantum dots, illustrating in principle the potential for true “quantum plasmonics.

Quantum entangling gates using the strong coupling between two optical emitters and nanowire surface plasmons

Jie Yang, Guang Lin, Yueping Niu +1 more

We propose a scheme to generate quantum entangling gate using one-dimensional surface plasmon waveguide. The protocol is based on the detection of the transmission spectrum of the single optical plasmons passing through two separate three-level emitters on metallic nanowire waveguide. It is shown that the low efficiency in direct detection of the single photon can be avoided by repeating the measurement of the transmission spectrum.
