Interaction quench in a Lieb–Liniger model and the KPZ equation with flat initial conditions

Abstract

Recent exact solutions of the 1D Kardar–Parisi–Zhang equation make use of the 1D integrable Lieb–Liniger model of interacting bosons. For flat initial conditions, it requires the knowledge of the overlap between the uniform state and arbitrary exact Bethe eigenstates. The same quantity is also central in the study of the quantum quench from a 1D non-interacting Bose–Einstein condensate upon turning interactions. We compare recent advances in both domains, i.e. our previous exact solution, and a new conjecture by De Nardis et al . This leads to new exact results and conjectures for both the quantum quench and the KPZ problem.

Interaction quenches in the Lieb-Liniger model

Márton Kormos, Aditya Shashi, Yang-Zhi Chou +1 more

We obtain exact results on interaction quenches in the 1D Bose gas described by the integrable Lieb-Liniger model. We show that in the long time limit integrability leads to significant deviations from the predictions of the grand canonical ensemble and a description within the generalized Gibbs ensemble (GGE) is needed. For a non-interacting initial state and arbitrary final interactions, we find that the presence of infinitely many conserved charges generates a non-analytic behavior in the equilibrated density of quasimomenta. This manifests itself in a dynamically generated Friedel-like oscillation of the non-local correlation functions with interaction dependent oscillation momenta. We also exactly evaluate local correlations and the generalized chemical potentials within GGE.

Delta-Bose gas on a half-line and the Kardar–Parisi–Zhang equation: boundary bound states and unbinding transitions

Jacopo De Nardis, Alexandre Krajenbrink, Pierre Le Doussal +1 more

Abstract We revisit the Lieb–Liniger model for n bosons in one dimension with attractive delta interaction in a half-space with diagonal boundary conditions. This model is integrable for the arbitrary value of , the interaction parameter with the boundary. We show that its spectrum exhibits a sequence of transitions, as b is decreased from the hard-wall case , with successive appearance of boundary bound states (or boundary modes) which we fully characterize. We apply these results to study the Kardar–Parisi–Zhang equation for the growth of a one-dimensional interface of height , on the half-space with boundary condition and droplet initial condition at the wall. We obtain explicit expressions, valid at all time t and arbitrary b , for the integer exponential (one-point) moments of the KPZ height field . From these moments we extract the large time limit of the probability distribution function (PDF) of the scaled KPZ height function. It exhibits a phase transition, related to the unbinding to the wall of the equivalent directed polymer problem, with two phases: (i) unbound for where the PDF is given by the GSE Tracy–Widom distribution (ii) bound for , where the PDF is a Gaussian. At the critical point , the PDF is given by the GOE Tracy–Widom distribution.

Exact overlaps in the Lieb-Liniger model from coordinate Bethe ansatz

Hui-Huang Chen

In the paper [1], the authors developed a new method to compute the exact overlap formulas between integrable boundary states and on-shell Bethe states in integrable spin chains. This method utilizes the coordinate Bethe ansatz representation of wave functions and singularity property of the off-shell overlaps. In this paper, we use this new method to derive the formula for overlaps between the Lieb-Liniger Bethe states and the Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) state. As a simple application this method, we obtained the overlaps between the Lieb-Liniger eigenstates and the free particle states with pair structure.

The Lieb–Liniger model

Zoran Ristivojević

Abstract The Lieb–Liniger model describes one-dimensional bosons with contact interactions. This many-body system admits an exact solution in terms of the Bethe ansatz. Some of the exact and perturbative results for this model are reviewed. Particular attention is devoted to the explicit evaluation, in terms of the interaction parameter, of physical quantities that can be formally exactly extracted from the Bethe ansatz solution. Another goal of this review is to stress exact relations between various quantities. The technical developments are explained in detail. The most relevant experimental realisations of the studied problems are eventually discussed. This review also contains several new results such as the study of convergence of the ground-state energy series at strong interactions, the excitation spectrum at high energies, and the evaluation of the boundary energy.

Something interacting and solvable in 1D

Eyzo Stouten, Pieter W. Claeys, Mikhail B. Zvonarev +2 more

Abstract We present a two-parameter family of exactly solvable quantum many-body systems in one spatial dimension containing the Lieb–Liniger model of interacting bosons as a particular case. The principal building block of this construction is the previously-introduced (Stouten et al 2018 arXiv:1712.09375) family of two-particle scattering matrices. We discuss an transformation connecting the models within this family and make a correspondence with generalized point interactions. The Bethe equations for the ground state are discussed with a special emphasis on ‘non-interacting modes’ connected by the modular subgroup of . The bound state solutions are discussed and are conjectured to follow some correlated version of the string hypothesis. The excitation spectrum of the new models in this family is derived in analogy to the Lieb–Liniger model and we show that for certain choices of parameters a spectrum inversion occurs such that the Umklapp solutions become the new ground state.

Relaxation dynamics of the Lieb-Liniger gas following an interaction quench: A coordinate Bethe-ansatz analysis

Jan C. Zill, Tod M. Wright, Karen V. Kheruntsyan +2 more

We investigate the relaxation dynamics of the integrable Lieb-Liniger model of contact-interacting bosons in one dimension following a sudden quench of the collisional interaction strength. The system is initially prepared in its noninteracting ground state and the interaction strength is then abruptly switched to a positive value, corresponding to repulsive interactions between the bosons. We calculate equal-time correlation functions of the nonequilibrium Bose field for small systems of up to five particles via symbolic evaluation of coordinate Bethe-ansatz expressions for operator matrix elements between Lieb-Liniger eigenstates. We characterize the relaxation of the system by comparing the time-evolving correlation functions following the quench to the equilibrium correlations predicted by the diagonal ensemble and relate the behavior of these correlations to that of the quantum fidelity between the many-body wave function and the initial state of the system. Our results for the asymptotic scaling of local second-order correlations with increasing interaction strength agree with the predictions of recent generalized thermodynamic Bethe-ansatz calculations. By contrast, third-order correlations obtained within our approach exhibit a markedly different power-law dependence on the interaction strength as the Tonks-Girardeau limit of infinitely strong interactions is approached.
