Abstract

This is the reply to the 2nd version of the comment, [arXiv.1312.5286v2], by McCutcheon {\it et al.} on our paper [PRL 109, 170402 (2012)]. Our letter presents three examples. For the steady-state solution of the first example, i.e., the dissipationless part of Eq.(12) in the PRL, the 2nd version of the Comment claimed that "this [dissipationless] regime exists if and only if the total Hamiltonian is unbounded from below, casting serious doubts on the usefulness of this result." In this reply, we show again that the 2nd version of the Comment is also incorrect.

Comment on “General Non-Markovian Dynamics of Open Quantum Systems”

Dara P. S. McCutcheon, Juan Pablo Paz, Augusto J. Roncaglia

The existence of a "non-Markovian dissipationless" regime, characterized by long lived oscillations, was recently reported for a class of quantum open systems (Zhang et al, PRL, 109, 170402, (2012)). It is claimed this could happen in the strong coupling regime, a surprising result which has attracted some attention. We show that this regime exists if and only if the total Hamiltonian is unbounded from below, casting serious doubts on the usefulness of this result.

Comment on "Universal Lindblad equation for open quantum systems"

Jae Sung Lee, Joonhyun Yeo

In this Comment, we show that the thermal Gibbs state given in terms of a time-independent system Hamiltonian is not a steady state solution of the quantum master equation introduced by Nathan and Rudner [Phys. Rev. B 102, 115109 (2020)], in contrast to their claim.

Reply to "Comment on 'Strong Measurements Give a Better Direct Measurement of the Quantum Wave Function' "

Giuseppe Vallone, Daniele Dequal

This is the reply to [arXiv:1711.00764], in which the authors claim that there is crucial normalization error in PRL 116, 040502 (2016) and that some quantities appearing in the method of PRL 116, 040502 (2016) are not experimentally measurable. We show that the claim of [arXiv:1711.00764] is not correct and that the quantities appearing in PRL 116, 040502 (2016) can be measured.

Comment on "Reply to Comment on Time-dependent Quasi-Hermitian Hamiltonians and the Unitary Quantum Evolution"

Mostafazadeh, Ali

I point out that if one defines the operator $U_R(t)$ as done by M. Znojil in his reply [arXiv:0711.0514v1] to my comment [arXiv:0711.0137v1] and also accepts the validity of the defining relation of $U_R(t)$ as given in his paper [arXiv:0710.5653v1], one finds that the time-evolution of the associated quantum system is not governed by the Schrödinger equation for the Hamiltonian operator $H$ but an operator $H'$ which differs from $H$ if the metric operator is time-dependent. In the latter case this effective Hamiltonian $H'$ is not observable. This is consistent with the conclusions of my paper [Phys. Lett. B 650, 208 (2007), arXiv:0706.1872v2] which allow for unitary time-evolution generated by unobservable Hamiltonians.

Comment on " Second Law of Thermodynamics without Einstein Relation'', arXiv:2405.17142

Robert Alicki

It is argued the the idea of a single temperature-like variable, introduced in [1], which enters a generalized second law for Markovian open system in non-equilibrium environment is not sufficient for a consistent and useful thermodynamic formalism. The origin of the Second Law and ``local temperatures'' in Markovian theory of Quantum Open Systems is revisited and illustrated by simple examples.

Here we respond to a comment [arXiv:1802.01382] submitted recently on 'Experimental Verification of a Jarzynski-Related Information-Theoretic Equality by a Single Trapped Ion' PRL 120 010601 (2018). We consider that the argument is the thermalization in a quantum system, which is different from the counterpart in conventional thermodynamics.

I point out that if one defines the operator UR(t)U_R(t)UR(t) as done by M. Znojil in his reply [arXiv:0711.0514v1] to my comment [arXiv:0711.0137v1] and also accepts the validity of the defining relation of UR(t)U_R(t)UR(t) as given in his paper [arXiv:0710.5653v1], one finds that the time-evolution of the associated quantum system is not governed by the Schrödinger equation for the Hamiltonian operator HHH but an operator H′H'H′ which differs from HHH if the metric operator is time-dependent. In the latter case this effective Hamiltonian H′H'H′ is not observable. This is consistent with the conclusions of my paper [Phys. Lett. B 650, 208 (2007), arXiv:0706.1872v2] which allow for unitary time-evolution generated by unobservable Hamiltonians.
