Abstract

Abstract We investigate the states generated in continuous variable (CV) optical fields by operating them with a number-conserving operator of the type , formed by the generalized superposition of products of field annihilation ( ) and creation ( ) operators, with . Such an operator is experimentally realizable and can be suitably manipulated to generate nonclassical optical states when applied on single- and two-mode coherent, thermal and squeezed input states. At low intensities, these nonclassical states can interact with a secondary mode via a linear optical device to generate two-mode discrete entangled states, which can serve as a resource in quantum information protocols. The advantage of these operations are tested by applying the generated entangled states as quantum channels in CV quantum teleportation, under the Braunstein and Kimble protocol. We observe that, under these operations, while the average fidelity of CV teleportation is enhanced for the nonclassical channel formed using input squeezed states, it remains at the classical threshold for input coherent and thermal states. This is due to the fact that though these operations can introduce discrete entanglement in all input states, it enhances the Einstein–Podolosky–Rosen correlations only in the nonclassical squeezed state inputs, leading to an advantage in CV teleportation. This shows that nonclassical optical states generated using the above operations on classical coherent and thermal state inputs are not useful for CV teleportation. This investigation could prove useful for the efficient implementation of noisy non-Gaussian channels, formed by linear operations, in future teleportation protocols.

Performance of a two-mode coherent superposed channel in continuous-variable quantum teleportation

Deepak, Arpita Chatterjee

Glauber's coherent state is denoted by $\ketα$ and its two-mode extension is represented by $\ket{α,β}$. In this work, we introduce a two-mode superposition operator $A=tab+ra^\dagger b^\dagger$, whose action on the two-mode coherent state produces the two-mode coherent superposed quantum state $\ketψ=(tab+ra^\dagger b^\dagger)\ket{α,β}$. We investigate the nonclassicality and quantum non-Gaussianity of this state by means of the Wigner distribution and Wigner logarithmic negativity. Once its intrinsic nonclassical and non-Gaussian structure is established, the state is employed as the entangled resource in the Braunstein-Kimble continuous-variable (CV) teleportation protocol. We compute the ideal teleportation fidelity for coherent and squeezed inputs and analyze how the strengths of nonclassicality and non-Gaussianity influence the teleportation efficiency. Our results identify specific parameter regimes where enhanced non-Gaussian features or increased nonclassicality enable fidelities beyond the classical threshold, thereby revealing the operational significance of engineered two-mode quantum states in CV quantum information processing.

Non-Gaussian two mode squeezed thermal states in continuous variable quantum teleportation

Chandan Kumar

Abstract We consider a practical scheme for the implementation of non-Gaussian operation, viz., photon subtraction, photon addition, and photon catalysis, on two-mode squeezed thermal state. The generated states are employed as resources in continuous-variable quantum teleportation. The results show that the three non-Gaussian operations can enhance the teleportation fidelity. Considering the success probability of the non-Gaussian operations, we identify single-photon catalysis and single photon subtraction to be optimal for teleporting input coherent states and squeezed vacuum states, at low and intermediate squeezing levels, respectively.

Improvement of the entanglement properties for entangled states using a superposition of number-conserving operations

Huan Zhang, Wei Ye, Ying Xia +3 more

Abstract The non-Gaussian operation, which can be easily implemented by current techniques, is an effective way for the improvement of the continuous-variable entanglement. Here, we theoretically propose a scheme for generating a number-conserving two-mode generalized superposition of products (TM-GSP) state by performing the -order GSP operations i.e. on an input two-mode squeezed vacuum (TMSV) state. Then, the entanglement properties of the TM-GSP state are analyzed detailedly by means of logarithmic negative, Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen (EPR) correlation and two-mode squeezing property. It is shown that, in contrast to the TMSV case, for the optimal choices of s 1 and s 2 , the entanglement properties of the TM-GSP state can be improved by using symmetric GSP operations ( ) and single-side GSP operations . Furthermore, the fidelity effect is also considered when the TM-GSP state is used as the entangled resource under the Braunstein and Kimble scheme. In terms of the optimal teleportation fidelity, it is found that the effect of the single GSP operation is equivalent to that of the case . This phenomenon also exists in logarithmic negative, EPR correlation and two-mode squeezing property. These results show that the prepared TM-GSP state may provide a well application in the fields of quantum information processing.

Continuous-variable quantum teleportation with non-Gaussian entangled states generated via multiple-photon subtraction and addition

Shuai Wang, Li-Li Hou, Xianfeng Chen +1 more

We theoretically analyze the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) correlation, the quadrature squeezing, and the continuous-variable quantum teleportation when considering non-Gaussian entangled states generated by applying multiple-photon subtraction and multiple-photon addition to a two-mode squeezed vacuum state (TMSVs). Our results indicate that in the case of the multiple-photon-subtracted TMSVs with symmetric operations, the corresponding EPR correlation, the two-mode squeezing degree, the sum squeezing, and the fidelity of teleporting a coherent state or a squeezed vacuum state can be enhanced for any squeezing parameter $r$ and these enhancements increase with the number of subtracted photons in the low-squeezing regime, while asymmetric multiple-photon subtractions will generally reduce these quantities. For the multiple-photon-added TMSVs, although it holds stronger entanglement, its EPR correlation, two-mode squeezing, sum squeezing, and the fidelity of a coherent state are always smaller than that of the TMSVs. Only when considering the case of teleporting a squeezed vacuum state does the symmetric photon addition make somewhat of an improvement in the fidelity for large-squeezing parameters. In addition, we analytically prove that a one-mode multiple-photon-subtracted TMSVs is equivalent to that of the one-mode multiple-photon-added one. And one-mode multiple-photon operations will diminish the above four quantities for any squeezing parameter $r$.

Analyzing performance of f-deformed displaced Fock state in continuous-variable quantum teleportation

Deepak Deepak, Arpita Chatterjee

Abstract Performing non-Gaussian operations, namely photon addition, photon subtraction, photon-addition-then-subtraction, photon-subtraction-then-addition can successfully enhance the fidelity of the continuous-variable quantum teleportation. However, a shortcoming of these non-Gaussian resources is that they are probabilistic in nature. In this article, we investigate the success probability of the non-Gaussian resources for optimal performance of the ideal teleportation protocol. To this end, we first derive the analytical expression for the two-mode entangled channel having f-deformed displaced Fock state or photon-added displaced Fock state or photon-subtracted displaced Fock state at one port and vacuum at another port of a symmetric beam-splitter. The generalized displaced Fock states are obtained by replacing the conventional bosonic functions by the nonlinear f-deformed operators such as A = af(a † a) and B = af ( a † a ) − 1 . The Wigner characteristic functions describing these three aforementioned non-Gaussian states are determined and utilized to attain the teleportation fidelity for input coherent and squeezed vacuum states. It is found that the nonlinear substitution leads to an enhancement in teleportation fidelity beyond the threshold limit. Moreover, the entangled photon-subtracted displaced Fock state demonstrates maximum efficiency as a quantum channel for teleporting single-mode coherent and squeezed states. We provide the squeezing regime values corresponding to the optimal performance of the non-Gaussian states considered, which will be of significant interest to the experimental fraternity. Further, we show that the entangled photon-added displaced Fock states have larger amount of entanglement but the entangled photon-subtracted displaced Fock states have stronger Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen correlation.

Integrated Generation and Purification of Entangled Coherent States for Non-Gaussian Teleportation

Ananga Mohan Datta, William J. Munro, Nicolo Lo Piparo +1 more

Entangled coherent states (ECS) provide a powerful non-Gaussian resource for continuous-variable quantum communication, but their generation in scalable architectures remains challenging. We propose an integrated photonic scheme that creates high-fidelity ECS from a two-mode squeezed vacuum via photon subtraction in a symmetric waveguide trimer. The resulting non-Gaussian entanglement is further enhanced by single-photon catalysis, which purifies the distributed state after transmission through lossy channels. Using these purified ECS resources, we analyze a photon-number-based teleportation protocol and demonstrate high-fidelity transfer of both coherent states and Schrodinger cat states. In particular, the teleportation fidelity for cat states exceeds the classical threshold of 2/3 over a broad range of realistic channel and squeezing parameters, whereas Gaussian resources fail to do so. Our results show that integrated photon subtraction and catalysis enable practical, chip-compatible generation of non-Gaussian entanglement suitable for advanced quantum teleportation and continuous-variable quantum networks.
